- Russia has lodged a strong protest against Japan over its planned wargames with NATO Nations. Russia issued a note to the Japanese embassy in Moscow on June 28 over the drills in July that will be held near Kuril islands, over which Russia claims control. Russia told Japan it was "categorically unacceptable to engage in military activity off Russia's far eastern coast, particularly taking into account the participation of NATO members located far from the region." Russia added that it viewed such activity as a potential threat to its security. Watch for more details.
