I've never understood the objection to ordinary-width bezels. Thin bezels invite damage, and 99% of anything I need to look at on the phone is toward the center of the screen, not at the edges.

Great review buddy. It's also the size of the 7a for me. The 7 and 7 pro are too big IMO. I'm 6' 4" so don't have small hands I just like a smaller, more pocket-able phone. 6.1" is a nice size. My old phone was 6.7" and was like a brick. Love my Pixel 7a.

U never gave it a chance pixel phones need more than a week to learn you're usage patterns then the battery will last for hours trust me, handing it bk after 7 days was just stupid u should have gave it at least a month by that time things definitely would have been better.

"you have to wait a month for it to get better", "dont use any apps and it will last"... whats good about that when i can justs buy a cheaper phone that has better perfomance and has a MUCH better battery (even after the pixel "learns") out of the box. pixels could be such amazing phones if they werent such an annoyance to the average user.

I ended up getting the 7 only because it cost me less money. Currently in the US the 7a costs $444 and the 7 is $449. But for whatever reason for a used iPhone 13 the trade in value is $289 when buying the 7a but it’s $440 when buying the 7. So basically with tax the 7 costs me ~$50

My take from the northern hemisphere (where it is summer now) the heating issues with this phone are extremely bad, probably due to the bespoke cheaper variant of the tensor g2. When it gets too hot it cuts off data, meaning I can't even do video calls outdoors for more than a few minutes. Also when I'm plugged into android auto and have a podcast going and google maps on the screen, the charge will stay the same or go down even when it's plugged into a type-c output that can push 15w normally. Still, the camera is good enough that I don't regret buying this phone.

Pixel 7a currently available for £449 RRP and you can get £70 off from Boxing Day sales, and you can get an additional 5% off from a promo code available online which subtracts a further £22.45. Plus I'm trading in a 2019 Pixel 4 XL for £119, which I feel is pretty generous of them meaning it'll be £237.55, or 47.1% saving. I'm really pleased with that to be honest. I also suspect the May 2024 Pixel 8a will have another £50 bump up in price and obviously won't come with any sales until Black Friday in November and the Christmas sales too, so the 7a right now seems a steal. Jan 9th is when Google sale ends.

Fortunately, they are more open. So it doesn't really matter for me when switching between iOS and Android. It's all pretty seamless for me.

I was so frustrated with their terrible customer service and hardware quality that I was going to buy an iPhone and be done with it. I decided to give Samsung once last try, my last Samsung device was the S3. I was floored. Samsung is the Apple of the Android world. Things work, the hardware is incredible and the software is not the TouchWiz of the past, OneUI is legitimately amazing. As a poweruser, this confluence of software + hardware is extremely difficult to find. I'll never be going back.

    Arguments:
    1. Gorilla Victus as a screen protector
    2. IP 68 vs. IP 67
    3. Charging faster 20W vs 18W, respectively 20W vs 7.5W

depends on regional pricing, usually the 7 is $100 more and the software and chipset is the exact same, even the camera has similar results. if you wanna save the hundred bucks or spend the extra for a more premium feel, more power to you. but...
      1. victus might be more shatterproof, but because of how it's made, it scratches easier. death sentence if you have grit or sand in your pocket. almost no difference if you put on a case and/or good screen protector
      2. completely redundant unless you bring your phone into a pool for some reason, IP67 is still fine if you accidentally splash it or drop it in the bathroom (hopefully the sink)
      3. marginal difference, we're talking mere minutes. wireless charging is arguably bad, some people might need it in their car, others will just leave it charging overnight. personal preference but for example i have no need for qi charging so this isn't a dealbreaker at all
      4. lol don't trust gsmarena's endurance scores 100%. battery life varies a lot from user to user and depends on what they do; just scrolling through emails, taking calls and shooting pics with the camera is fine, streaming music and movies uses a bit of power, and gaming either moderately or significantly drains your battery. if you just need it for the former then it still lasts you a day, maybe even two. apparently the battery life is pretty meh at first but gets progressively better if you enable the adaptive battery option but don't quote me on this

This video seems a bit lost as the premise is that the 7a is cheaper than the 7 and you won't notice what G sacrificed, yet the 7 is only marginally more expensive than the 7a when both are on sale. In the UK the 7 was on sale for £444 down from £599 while the 7a was on sale for £400 down from £450, sometimes the 7a has been bundled with charger and case which makes it even cheaper but case is over priced and there are better ones out there.

Having the Pixel 7 makes the 7a absolutely redundant. There is no point in grabbing it besides getting the extra year in updates. Pixel 7 right now is either offered at the same price as the 7a or cheaper. I understand that the 7a is newer but the 7 offers gorilla glass 6:01 Victus on front and back of the device along with faster wired and wireless charging. In a few months when the 7a drops in price as it should, we can come back to this discussion. As it stands right now as long as the Pixel 7 is offered beside the 7a, there's really no point in choosing the 7a.

Nice review but it seems like there is a wide range of experiences with the battery. For me, its been absolute junk. I am a light user. No games, a few calls a day, no social media apps and I cant barely make it to dinner time. I have turned off virtually every setting that has been mentioned on the internet to save battery life and it still stinks. I have done all updates and have adaptive battery enabled and have notice zero improvement in the two months i have had the phone.
Even when plugged into a USB charger in the car, if you run navigation it will maintain or actually lose battery. It won't even charge. It takes forever to charge even when plugged in by USB and wireless charging is almost pointless.
Lastly, this phone overheats excessively. I was just on a trip out west where the average temperature was 85 and 90° and the phone was so hot I had to take a case off and I had no apps running other than the camera.
I have a warrenty replacement coming from google and I am hoping I just got a deffective unit, but so far I would not recommend this phone to anyone that does more than a few phone calls a day. I am coming from the pixel 6a and loved that phone.
I have never regretted a phone purchase more than the 7a.

If it is a lot cheaper than the 7a over there then it's a decent phone to go for. I wouldn't say it's better than the 7a in all aspects though. It's less powerful (not weak, but not as powerful as the Tensor G2), the camera isn't as good, it has slower RAM, it uses slightly worse glass on the front, and you miss out on the Google AI features.

My 6 get's easy over 35°C just having the display on with 27°C room temperature. Charging and using it at the same time? 44°C - that almost hurt you holding it and can only be bad for the battery. The standby time on mobile network is also bad thanks to Samsung based tech... really annyoing. For me I do not see me buying a device with such processers in the future.
