    A little back story to this situation. I worked at this Home depot. The guy operating the forklift was a long time lawn and Garden associate named Gary. One of the nicest guys ever really cared about the store and the company. This previous day corporate did a walk through of the store and noted several unsafe pallets in the store most of which were in outside Garden. I was in the break room at the time and i could hear the regional managers yelling at the store ASMs and garden department head about the pallet situation… the next day The ASM named Barb ( total bitch) told Gary that there were atleast 4 pallets in garden that needed to come down due to being damaged or not shrink wrapped correctly. Gary was certified on all the power equipment in the store. Gary told Barb. The they should use 2 order pickers to cut the wrap on the pallet and bring the product down piece by piece. Barb stressed and pressured gary saying that they could spare 2 order pickers cause it was Saturday morning and that the store was projected to be very busy for the day. Barb told gary to just block off the area and use the forklift. Gary reluctantly agreed. Ironically barb was garys spotter. The blocked off the area with gates and began to get the pallet down.. as you can see by the video due to the unsafe nature of the situation it drew a small crowd of customers and associates. After the pallet fell as noted in the video Gary was sent home for the day as he was upset about the situation. I was not in this day but from what I understand my fellow associates told gary accidents happen no big deal. When i came back to work (i worked in Electrical dept next to Garden) i was shocked not to see Gary in for his shift making a pot of coffee and telling his fishing stories. Figured he was sick. Well nope. HE was FUCKING FIRED!!! I was beside myself they forced him to do it. They claim that Gary should have told Barb that he was going to notify an ASM the situation was unsafe… anyways kinda shitty situation no matter what way you look at it….. i now work for a lumber yard and have for the past 7 years and am a safety manager and we use this video in our forklift operator’s presentation… i am finally telling Garys story… if you feel you situation is unsafe never be afraid to push it up the chain. Barb should have been the one being fired NOT Gary…

      Your story is BS by the way. The guy who dropped the pallet didn’t get fired. He left the company a few years later to get out of retail and started working for a company processing organ donations. Source you ask, I’m the guy on the forklift. And believe me I didn’t want to use the forklift to get the pallet down. I wanted to use the reachtruck. But the battery was dead on it and I had to use the forklift. And I didn’t have room to get under the pallet properly because of the wheelbarrows. Your story was interesting but not at all true. This was at HD 733 Hermitage TN.

    To those saying a Reach lift is not designed for outdoor use in Garden, That is bullshit, I am a Garden Associate at the Home Depot and our store got a 2nd reach specifically for our department, We use it for all sorts of shit outside, Moving/Lifting Pavestone, Assorted Pallets, And yes even mulch! Some of this stuff is right on the edge of its lifting abilities but hey it works great! Hell I have even went and played with the Lumber associates a few times using our reach, Handles their bundles of wood with ease.

Again, it is tight in the small truck. Also, I can get a whole lift of drywall (except 12 footers) from the back without moving the front stack out of the way.

      Yep I work at a Home Depot and 75 bags a mulch come on a vigor mulch pallet. The pallets are almost always broken. Shoot I got into an accident once, when I was tryna move a poorly stacked mulch the minute I did a turn it broke and slide off my forks. Because of that accident if we have vigoro mulch deliveries that are more than 55 bags, we off-stack about half onto another pallet

    I’m a Home Depot associate with 27 yrs under my belt ; I’m licensed to drive all the equipment with the exception of the HiLo on the JB Hunt delivery truck. After watching this video and my point of view, Whether the pallet was rotted or water logged , Why would an individual use a Propane truck to get into that tight spot for ! I can’t tell if the machine is the small truck or the 10000 lb unit , it doesn’t matter, the forks was restricted to go flush and all the way into the other end of the pallet! You need to use the Reach Truck for that tight area and make sure the forks are in the most heaviest part of the load ( The counterbalance), Then that accident would’ve been prevented! And if the customer wants to get ticked off for waiting while you’re trying to get an available machine, then C’est la vie

    • @ElectronicsForFun
      @ElectronicsForFun Před 5 lety

      because reach trucks can't be used in outside garden. or at least that's the way it is at my store, if it's something light and close to the door like a patio set or something then fine, but the propane fork lift is what you're supposed to use when in outside garden.

    He should have straightened out the pallet on the rack, then started from scratch. What I do to test if a leaning pallet is going to tip over is I lift the pallet above the rack and see if there's a low spot or not. If no matter how high you lift the pallet, part of it stays in contact with the rack, it is going to tip over. Never just slide it off the rack as you back out and hope for the best.

      Go back to the beginning. You will see he came in at basically the same angle as the person who put it up there. It was a rotten pallet with a badly placed load on it. Entire thing was setup to fail.

    What I find strange about the forklift fails is that its blatantly obvious what is going to happen yet the drivers themselves don't see it.

      When you have a manger that doesn’t care about you not having the right equipment for the situation and the pallet is rotted. And a customer is waiting for that one particular pallet. There’s really not much they can do. A reach truck would’ve gotten that pallet down without any issues. Sadly it was out of order.

    I would’ve just put it back and told my manager I couldn’t take it down. Lol if them or any member of management has a forklift license then I’ll gladly allow them to show me the right way 😁👍🏾

    Manager should be fired for allowing heavy tall palletized material up on the top rack.should be on floor or second rack.

    Bro this is why you use the reach truck not the forklift

    • @beatle2064
      @beatle2064 Před 9 měsíci

      The reach truck had a dead battery at the time and the forklift was the only option. Manger wanted that pallet down for the customer. He didn’t care if it was safe or not. And the space between the racking and wheelbarrows wasn’t big enough to get the forklift squared with the pallet. And the pallet being rotted didn’t help. Had the pallet not been rotted, then maybe it would’ve come down just fine. Alas we will never know and it’s not my problem anymore.

    You should have stood closer, then you could've sued HD for $45 million in hurt feelings and emotional distress.
    *Always make sure you're completely forked into a pallet before lifting it, this should be the very first thing you're taught in driving school. If he had been, it might not have fallen, but I'm betting it was a broken pallet to begin with.
    Perhaps T.M.I., but hopefully some beginner forklift driver will read this and not kill their friend who's helping them navigate a warehouse.

    Squeezing into tight corners like that is mastering side shifting. Never pull off the load if your fork guard isn't all the way. Rookie

    the reach can pick that up just fine.. take a look at how it fell, he went in the pallet wrong, his fork went in the hole but out somewhere in the middle. plus like one person said that pallet looked old. Dasswarcraft, the spotter looked like he was recording and im not saying that to defend anything other than stating the obvious lack of common sense. The driver should of known something was wrong and got out the pallet.

    • @thevideofuzz8584

      Binkzero206 I would never move that pallet with a reach from that height.
      It should of never gone up in the first place, nor the one to the right of it.
      Seems like all the stores have the same issues with people not giving a fuck or no common sense, Maybe both.
      Had someone in out store last month stack 3 hacks of lumber onto one another and placed in the mid overhead of wire racking.
      Some how they broke the top hack and knocked half of it out the back of the racking and just left it hanging by the plastic straps for someone to find. Took us a good hour to get it out and flipped back on top by lowing the loose lumber onto the racking.
