They must have done a really good job on fixing the shrinkage in the newer models. The leather on my XD still looks brand new.

Great info! I just ordered a nice XD11 in need of leather. Wish me luck finding Purell during the COVID19 hoarding season

Just use a water dish soap mix like you would with screen protectors and phone skins. I don't know how a gel like he used is going to dry underneath the adhesive backed material. The water soap mix will and you don't need more than a thin coating.

I'm importing a domestic XD and I plan on replacing it's shrunk leather with olive to match my sx-70 and werra. One thing I'll try out with the film note holder is mild heat application with a solvent being pushed under the wedged sides with a spudger. If that goes smoothly without cutting I'll let you know

I plan to buy an XD11, and the one available has some peeling leather. Do the newer revisions also have some peeling? How do I know it's an older revision?

The best way to tell is to look at the exposure compensation lever. If its facing inwards. Towards the lens then it's a newer revision. If its facing outward it's an older revision.

Hi Minolta Collector, many thanks! One question: In the later revisions of the Minolta XD 11, did they use leatherette (artificial leather) or genuine letter like in the earlier versions? Artificial leather would be much better for me. I'm considering the purchase of a later revision of the camera. Your help in this is much appreciated! Best, Ralf

Honestly I'm not 100% sure but I think the later revisions use vinyl instead of genuine leather. The Minolta Collector's group on Facebook might have the answers you're looking for. There are a lot of very knowledgeable people on there.
Also Hugo studios does offer their laser cut leather in artificial (PU) leather too!

@@minoltacollector9128 Thanks a lot. I purchased a Minolta XD from Japan in top mint condition. It's one of the later revisions and the leatherette is of high quality. No issues with shrinking.

Nice video, but why would you use, and recommend using Purell Hand Sanitizer to clean it? That’s foolish. You should have used Isopropyl Alcohol only. Purell has other ingredients like glycerin, tocopherol which are hand softners, it’s not only alcohol in it. Woulda been better to buy 50/70% Isopropyl from the discount store and used a tiny spray bottle to apply it. Also, there’s a seller in Japan that also sells high quality laser cut skins for the XD, and other SLRs, takes a while to receive but they are made to order and fit perfectly. I owned an XD that needed a new skin.

Well word online is that the Purell advance has none/very little moisturizers.
Also isopropyl alcohol can seep into the cracks of the camera and potentially dry out lubricants on the inside.
Even if the Purell advance does still have some moisturizers it definitely doesnt affect the strength of the adhesive what so ever.
And im pretty sure ive heard of this japanese seller that takes his time. But i was pretty positive his are hand cut
