After holding off for a fair amount of time, I finally wore carbon running shoes at a parkrun as part of an attempt to run a 5K personal best.
The HOKA Rocket X 2 was the shoe of choice, and while they are not sponsoring this video, there is an affiliate link above, which can be a great way to help support the JOG ON videos and community.
Thank you to Exmouth parkrun, always superb hosts and great volunteers for what is a very flat and fast (if it's not too windy) course.

Hi Harry can you tell me how to get a sub 20:30 5k?
@@RhysRuns- run run run. At 49, I have taken my PB from 21:00 to 17:49 simply by running more. Around 90-100km per week.
@@grantmckay7014 thanks but I don’t think a 10 year old can run that far in a week
I was the man in the gloriously pink carbon shoes! Congrats on the pb, I set one at the time in this Parkrun aswell 😁
Awesome running!
Parkrun content is the best!
True
It feels like classic JOG ON, it’s where a lot of my videos first began.
Thanks for watching and supporting.
Harry
I think I love it because everyone can feel the elation of breaking their pbs regardless of ability
I can agree on that one👍👍👍
It's good to see a massive new PB in the super shoes, but your fitness and training have helped as well. I have no doubt you will dip into the 17's very soon. PS love the artistic end to the video
Cheers for watching Graham 🔥
Well done Harry! My current PB in non-carbon shoes is 18:41, so almost identical to what you had. I've resisted switching to 'super-shoes' so far, but maybe the time is coming. I did set a new 2-mile PB on Tuesday though, so maybe there's still some time in the legs before looking at equipment.
Awesome Andrew - keep it up
This is the thing with carbon shoes - they reward the good efforts, so you train hard, you get fast, you slip on the fast shoes and you can’t decouple the big effort from your body from your shoes. I’ve done easy runs in shoes with high end mid soles or carbon plates and been no where, but when you dial it up they give you back what you put in!
A great insight - you're right there's a lot of factors at play
Discovered your channel because of your recent pacing video and have since binge watched every single piece of content you've produced. Started running again, gave up smoking. All in all, things have been looking up since then haha
Thank You!!!
Awesome to read Mooky, cheers for supporting my work and well done on your own journey 🧡
Dear Harry
I was running that Accrington 10k this weekend and good to be passed by a Jog in t shirt had a chat with the guy in the shirt a very nice chap great to hear he was pushing the Jog on theme for the north West
May well have been the wonderful Marc Brine
bro! thats huge! congratz! on your pb! these week i did my first 5k sub 30 at 29 min and was awefull i cant imagine doing it on 18 min xD keep the good work!
Cheers 🔥
Awesome video! I didn’t realise carbon soles were available retail. Been looking for some replacements for my kayanos, can’t wait to give these a crack.
Let us know how it goes. 🔥
Another great video Harry, and along with some of the other comments, parkrun content always feeling comforting! Consistently enthused and motivated by this community 💪🏻
Love it Vikki
Congratulations on the PB! I just found your channel a week or so ago and have been loving your videos - looking forward to more :-) I just broke out the carbon shoes after a long winter in winter spikes, and I've got to admit it's great seeing my splits suddenly get faster! From an Aussie in Norway
Hey Arlina, thanks for finding my videos
Love that you're in Norway - cheers for the support 🧡
Awesome Harry
Thanks 🙏
Another great video Harry! Congrats on the PB.
Cheers Andy
Well done Harry! You can definitely smash 18 mins! I am currently training for sub 25 so it's great to follow your journey!
Love it Sophie, all the best with the sub 25
Well done Harry! Love the content
Cheers Mike appreciate it
Fantastic result! Well done Harry, very much deserved 😁👏👏
Cheers Kirk
Well done on the PB !! Definitely more to it than the shoes. Keep the videos coming. Love your channel. You're a natural with the camera 🤩
Thanks Vicky, appreciate you watching what I make
So great to meet you there Harry, I was the kid that got a picture with you after (not the one in the video). Well done on the pb!!!
I remember Sam - you ran excellently. Well done and all the best with your continued running.
Harry
Thank you very much, going for sub 17 at a race this summer.
Great work Harry and congrats on the new PB
Thanks Sean
Brilliant running, great work Harry!
Thank you Richard
Way to go Harry!!!!!
🔥
A 18 min 5k is amazing. When you see him run, it looks like he is barely moving! I must look slow as, when doing it in 23min!
I often look back at footage of me running and think ‘Good Lord I thought I’d look quicker than that’.
Cheers for commenting on a JOG ON video
Harry
Congratulations brother and keep flying 🎉❤
You too Muhammad
Congratulations on the new PB Harry! So proud of your hard work returning from your foot injury, it’s very inspiring.
I just finished a similar journey this past Thursday. I had a knee injury 3 years ago and broke 20 in the 5k for the first time since with an 18:28 last week. I’m just 1 minute from my college PB now.
Love the videos! I’m hoping to do my first ever park run here in Texas soon.
Thank you for being around so long to know the full story - amazing running well done and love that you're in Texas 🧡
🤗Good to see you back Harry🤗
Never went anywhere J - just quality over quantity
Well done 👏🏼
Cheers Jonathan
Loving the Videos Harry, Very inspirational. I'm just re-beginning my running journey after being out of action for almost 10 years thanks to a fractured spine, which lead to arthritis and degenerative spine disease. I have joined a running club, and booked myself on a 5 mile league race, even though i haven't actually completed a 5k parkrun nonstop for almost a year, as i had a few other niggling issues, and i lost a lot of progress through the winter months. I also gained a couple of stone too. I want to beat my previous PB of 28:31 which was actually done jeffing the parkrun. I am determined at some point, that i will get sub 22, and i will NOT stop until i get there.
Amazing to read and yes absolutely - keep pushing! All the best
Another quality bit of running and solid post again mate . 18.08 is fantastic, 🎉
Cheers Jim, good to see your continuing comeback
Great to see you cracking out a new PB!
Boom 💥
Top man Harry super video 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🍀
Thank you Karl, tomorrow 7am GMT the new video lands
Great video !
Thank you Dennis
Well done Harry on your PB, I’ve a pair of Saucony carbon’s and they’ve knocked my park run times from mid 28 to 26.05, although I feel that carbons don’t give you much back on trail park runs, such as my home which you ran a couple of weeks ago, Moors Valley.
Cheers Gordon keep it up 🏃♂
Nice run and cool channel. I am the ‘pram-man’ in this and a friend told me about this video!
Amazing Tim, so glad you found it!
Calves of steel pram man - what a run.
Wishing you all the best
Harry
I wore a pair of Altra's Vanish Carbons to my local park run. I took a minute off my PB, which was a huge surprise. As much as I don't want to admit it, they do make a difference.
Crazy stuff
Cant beat a good parkrun pb, always amazing content harry, cant wait to get myself down to Exmouth 🧡🧡🧡
Hopefully you can this summer Deano
Exmouth is such a good parkrun. Flat and loads of cafes to choose from afterwards. I will be investigating carbon shoes now....
Absolutely, hope you enjoy if you do get to use them
That was amazing! I still remember when you were looking to break 20 mins! Fantastic effort, and here's to 17:XX
running 🏃♂️ 🔥
This channel should have a lot more subscribers, maybe longer videos could help. Hopefully the running community will gradually gravitate towards Harry and his informative content. Also saw the milkman being interviewed at the London Marathon so great shout out. ❤
check out previous videos, they are the best, just wish there were more, but plenty of variety and longer than this which was just specific to testing the shoes, without fail Harry Morgan makes me smile,
Thank you all. 🧡
Man every video from you is documentary quality!! I could watch this on the national television. All of your videos motivate me and are super enjoyable, keep up the good work!
Great comment
@@thisisjogon 💯🙏❤️
Nice one Harry! ! !
Cheers Lewis
Your 10k pace being faster than previous 5k pb is incredible
Big improvements Matt - but quite an obvious explanation really, just started running consistent 40 mile weeks for multiple months, and it made a tremendous difference. Who'd have thought running more would get me fitter - prior to this I was always that runner that did 10 miles one week, 25 the next, then wouldn't run for 6 days, it was very much when I felt like it.
Hi Harry, I've just completed my first park run, and I loved it! I was inspired by you and your great videos. Thank you :)
Same here, 1st one completed today and I loved it
That's awesome Ernie, bravo
Congratulations Harry on another great video and an awesome PB. You will do sub 18 in the near future, I have belief and faith in you for that. Cheers Alasdair
Sub 18 here we come. Thanks Alasdair
Well done Harry! 🏃♂️👍
Thanks Anthony 🏃♂️ 👍
blistering speed!
🔥
I love the Parkrun each Saturday morning down here in Rhodes Homebush Bay Sydney, thanks for the great content very interesting.
Thank you for watching!
Great video as always Harry, congrats at the PB! I'm saving the purchase of a pair of carbon shoes until I beat a PB set back at the beginning of 2021 that I'm working towards. Though the temptation is proving difficult 😂
Absolutely, it just feels that bit more fulfilling
Smashed it Harry! Well done on the 5k pb 🙌💪
Thank you for watching
Technically it’s a 5k Park Run PB. No Park Runs can be classed as official PBS as they are not affiliated with UK Athletics.
Started running in October 2022 and since then I am thinking about wearing carbon shoes. As I felt silly running 26minutes parkruns in carbon shoes I decided to wait with the purchase. Three weeks ago I managed my first sub 22 and decided to set a goal of 18:30 PB to justify the purchase.
I know I need to be patient but it's giving me a goal to work for 😊
Awesome to read. Keep pushing and enjoy it
A sub 20 is a solid goal, Not that I'm an expert but a bit of runner to runner advice/opinion, I can comfortably run a sub 22, and a sub 21 with a hard effort but the sub 20 hasnt been done yet (PB 20:07) I can't imagine a sub 18:30 at the moment, so if I was you I'd aim for the elusive sub 20 and then take it from there 👍
21:35 - 21.05.2023
20:28 - 30.07.2023
@@Pothi90 Keep going 👍
Well done Harry
Cheers Jono hope that you're good
A great video Harry. The carbon shoes are certainly an interesting subject. I ran in mine for my half marathon PB. The shoes definitely helped me feel more confident to push harder 🧡
Absolutely Dave, hope that you're well
@@thisisjogon really well Harry. Currently enjoying Devon and Cornwall

Wonderfullll🎉🎉🎉
🎉
I know it doesn't count but let's not forget the 17:58 final 5k Harry ran at the 10I he did
Quite, I believe a fast 5k race is on the cards @thisisjogon
Appreciate you acknowledging this Archie
Your channel motivated me to start running! I will be documenting this journey, I tried running the Kipchoge world record pace on the treadmill which was tough! Unbelievable how these athletes can run at a 2:50min/km pace for 2 hours!
Crazy isn't it - thanks for supporting
Bloody quick
🔥
I really don't understand how this channel only has 36k subs. Sending love from Massachusetts!
Thank you very much, we're small but passionate. All the best to you and sending love from the UK
Because we British are absolute rockets who watch folk eating food challenges by the millions instead of getting fit and active , I do both lol
Great video, saw your London PB
Cheers Peter
Well done Harry, there was also a Jog on representation at Keswick this week.
Awesome to hear Adam, hoping that you're well
Came across these vids a few weeks ago, having watched probably every video you’ve ever released I can’t believe you’ve only got 30k subs
That's awesome James, welcome
wow, exmouth on top
Yes Matty
Congrats on the pb and the video 👍 Get your support crew on cameras, and you'll easily go sub-18. I've given up ever beating my 5k pb (21:13). Pretty much all my sub-22 5ks were ran wearing Hoka Rocket X.
Interesting how it can make a difference for many
Kudos on your PB, Harry. Great to meet you at Poole.
Cheers Neil and you!
H
Congratulations! That sub 18 is not going to be far away. Need to visit Exmouth soon
Would recommend it Jake
I got my first ever sub 18 last tuesday in a time of 17:55. I was using the Hocka Rocket x as they feel better for me ! Great running
Awesome - well done, a great time
Another BANGER Harry. You should come to Netley Parkrun in Hampshire and do its Summer Course. Lovely scenery and quick course too. Keep up the great content
Thanks Jonny. I have done Netley once - it was 2018 I think - I enjoyed it.
Cheers for watching and supporting my videos
Congrats! Ran my first Parkrun recently and hoping to set a new PB
Well done Matthew 🔥
I can’t believe you’ve held out this long!! Great run, nice PB. I’m a Nike fan - especially the Alphaflys. They are my go to race shoe for marathons. Vaporflys I like for shorter distances 👌👌
Cheers Christina
@@thisisjogon We’ve missed you 😊😊 Hope all is well x
Thanks for featuring 'Jog on Molly' 🏃♀️
🏃♀️ 🔥 no problem at all
Come to Melbourne Australia Harry! I will take you to some awesome park runs!
It will happen
Well done Harry! I am hoping one day to improve on my 5km PB of 18:12. However, I have had a knee reconstruction (I ruptured my ACL) and don't know if I will ever get there. Currently can run about 19:45 full tilt.
Hoping so Jeremy, keep pushing and enjoying 🏃♂️ 💥
You are so speedy!
🏃♂️ 💨
Too much made about shoes...you your training , attitude , determination is what makes the difference
Great comment
🎉🎉🎉🙌🏼🙌🏼💪🏼💪🏼awesome congrats
Thanks 🔥
Nice PB. That course looked pretty fiddly esp with the 180 turns. That is definitely sub 18 at Dulwich or a similarly quick course.
Absolutely Alex, it's coming
For a long time I raced in the Zoom Fly Flyknit, which although technically did have a carbon plate they used React foam, which is certainly not a super foam. It's still a fairly fast lightweight shoe though and will outlast it's ZoomX equivalent. I've recently gone over to the dark side though (although just for races right now) yet to run a 5k but hopefully a mix of better shoe and overall improvement should see me PB next time. Well done on your PB! Remember although they may be fast shoes you did the running, without you in them they're stranded on the start line.
Thanks for sharing, hoping that you're doing well Steven
awesome vid. would love to see your daily training too. mileage and workouts and what not :D
40 miles per week, a kettlebell session once per week and some banded exercises.
Cheers for asking.
Wow, well done! I have been experimenting with carbon shoes as well, but personally I really don't think they make much difference, at least at my kind of level. In my view it is more down to the new foams which have been developed. The main benefit, I feel, is that my legs don't feel as trashed after a race or harder training session.
Cheers for sharing Martin, hoping that your running is going well
Babe, wake up! New Harry Morgan parkrun video just dropped!!
🧡
Loving this channel. I’m gonna purchase a jog on shirt from you and give you a bit of advertising at my local parkrun 😉
Would love that thank you Tom
Congrats on your new PB. That 17:xx isn’t far away 🎉
Thanks Brioni - in training for that 17 minute 5K as we speak
Great run fella💪hope to see your dad at Broad Park parkrun in NZ
I’ll make sure I pay a visit next time we’re in NZ! Napier and Queenstown were both fab courses.
🇳🇿
Splendid time, fabulous Harry! I wonder how fast you'd be beardless? hehehe
I have to wonder the same, maybe 2 minutes, who knows.
Genuinely didn’t think trainers would make a difference. Then a Parkrun partner came to my local Parkrun yesterday. I signed up to try a pair of their trainers after watching this video this week (not Hoka). Finally went sub 21mins in a Parkrun and took 22 seconds off my Parkrun PB. Looks like I need to invest more in my running shoe.
👟 🔥
@@thisisjogon and since then… I have gone from 20:58 to 20:31 (new trainers were purchased). Now all for some tips to get to sub 20.
Hi Harry, I have just completed my 5th parkrun, my first was 31:23 and today I ran a 23:01
Brilliant to read - well done indeed
Impressive, Harry! Well done. Any plans to do a marathon in the near future?
There may be something in the pipeline..
I ran for years on New Balance 880 V(add number). At the end of this march 2023 I started to run on Hoka One One Mach 5 and in one week I broke my PB on the 10km and on the 10 miles. I thought: Is it really because of the shoes? Or is it more like: "I have new shoes, so I must run fast".
What also was a factor that there was a strong wind in the back when I ran the 10. The 10 miles was a round with very little wind.
Both days I didn't felt very well. Especially on the 10k. But with the wind and the shoes I felt I ran the 10km on a racing bike, while I ran all my runs before on a touring bike. So, even though I din't felt very well, I could maintain a fast pace.
The 10 miles I started too quick, as I was a bit scared to collapse, as I did last year. Between 6km and 9km I really started to slow down, but I didn't collapse and after that I gained speed again, as the route went back in the builded area and also the 5 miles and 10 miles merged. Therefore I was suddenly running in a huge crowd of people. I was constantly speeding up to run through gaps. The finish was a straight line for a km, so you could see the finish-line from very far. It was a proper pr.
10km was 41:20 minutes over 10.04km. (My previous time was 41:06, but the distance was just 9.96km. So that was a crooked PR).
10miles is now 1:09:32hour over 16.13km. (My previous pr on a 10 miles I ran during a halve marathon 1:09.56hour.)
The weeks after that I felt that my legs where pretty busted up. More than my previous shoes. Hm.
Thank you for sharing 🧡
You should run the ward park park run in Bangor Northern Ireland, I have just started 5ks and your videos really help 🙂
Ireland tour 2024 here we come. Thanks for watching my videos 🧡
Love this video - great work on the PB! I have imposter syndrome about carbon shoes, for some reason I don't feel like I'm allowed them as a fairly average runner. Do you still get the commission cashes if I follow your affiliate link but then pivot to purchase another pair of Mach 5s 😆? I blimmin' love the Mach 5s! Nice and boingy but you're not too far off the ground (I am clumsy and prone to turning my ankle).
I think runners of all standards have felt this Kathryn, I think it's a personal choice, and we all know that there is no substitute for simply building a vast aerobic base through training. My understanding is any pivot still works through the link. Appreciate you asking.
I’d love to break 18 too - maybe this year? I hope so!
Hoping so for you too Vince
Off to try those Hoka X2s
Enjoy Bevan
I went with some Saucony Endorphin Pro 3 i will try them out in 10 days.
Nice shoes and a great time. But you don't happen to know where I could get some running merch do you?

OMG your father did the most beautiful Park Run in New Zealand in Queenstown so great to see hope he did a video.
Is he doing any others? If I’m Auckland he should try Barry Curtis or Western Springs
Absolutely Chris, he's back now, hopefully we'll visit sometime
Queenstown was a beautiful Parkrun, Chris. No video, only photos I’m afraid! Back to NZ one day I hope - what a country!
Been struggling for a while for consistency, after moving from kent to Gloucester, and helpful tips would be great.
Consistency is the single best tip. Just getting that weekly mileage up, can transform one's running
Will follow your sub-18 quest with interest. On a straighter course with no hairpin turns you probably would have done it! Did you consider any other carbon shoes before settling on the Hokas?
I've tried on a few pairs, the Rocket X 2 has been the most joyous on the foot for me personally
The father!
