      In one episode, Phil had his ancestry checked and He is 100% British born and bred going back 4000 years on mothers and fathers side. Not many can say that.

    That gun they t fired was a very early breech loading gun. Later guns were cast while and were muzzle loading. The metal technology of the time had them made of bronze and banded to keep them from exploding. Again the later cast guns didn’t need the banding and the chamber could withstand the force of the explosions which the early breed loaders couldn’t

    Million times better than later episodes: it has beautiful, natural, honest flow, with real comunication and reactions, it draws you in, and you feel like you'r there among them. Also, without constant dumbing down and underestimation of the viewer. But off course, I still watch all of them 😀💜♾️

    The lack of guns says that either the locals found out about the wreck and picked up most of them, or it was a merchant ship. Warship had more guns than five or six. And they were usually of one type and caliber, these were different.

    I was weirder out by, of all things, a no-smoking sign aboard the survey ship. I forgot how ubiquitous smoking used to be. I very much doubt smoking is allowed anywhere aboard, these days.

    Did I miss something? They conducted a survey of the bottom that was not capable of detecting waterlogged timbers, hoping to detect wooden timbers that had been underwater for 600 years. Im sure there is something Im not understanding. Somebody enlighten me.

      They were looking for nails and other metal fittings that would have been embedded in the wood.

    These guys (that’s on the boat) are fishes. It’s like they didn’t want Time Team their. It’s just a filling that I got.
    It started with the xray of the ocean floor. Those guys weren’t making any since. Even though they found a boat I wonder if it’s the boat they were looking for.

      @@grumpylimey4539 I was about to say this one occurred probably 25 (or close to that) years ago, but you beat me to it! It was in the 90's. Tony has hair and it's still dark in the 90's. Then suddenly gets shorter and lighter in the 2000s. And also Phil is much skinnier back then (hell he is 70 now so can't blame him there!)
      Edit: It aired January 28, 1996. Therefore filmed approx 25 years ago! 😄

      @Brisdad53 Masts of a trading vessel from that era would be taller than...10 feet...thus be sticking out of the water....duh....not so smart yourself. And as it was a small town at the time, it most likely had more than 10 people within a 2-3 mile stretch....duh....

      Wouldn't be the same tho.
      Half the crew is to old to dig, and the most important person; Mick Aston, is gone.
      And without the original team, Time Team will never be as good.
      You could see that in season 20, after Mick quit. Their viewer ratings went down like a reverse tornado.

And they skip details that felt important, like the talks at the pub, and the friendly squabble between diggers during excavations. There's no "personal touch" to it now, sadly.
