- Pond Scum has a spool. Spools are cool. But….
Its time for a change. In a few easy steps I swapped an ARB Air Locker in place of the spool in the big rear axle. Now it will turn better, drive nicer, and stop destroying tires. - Auta a dopravní prostředky
I could see you and Dave running a Baja race in that
Thanks for doing what you do Fred, I look forward to watching you videos every time they post.
Love your videos! Please do an update on the FJ80!
Up here in Canada where it freezes, I use an in line paint gun air dryer to prevent icing in the locker air lines. I use an ARB Twin compressor plumbed to the tank mounted vertically so I can drain it.
It’s amazing how much water I get out of it.
Great tips!
I think your passion for wheelin is awesome and fun to watch. Get Dave to build you a fuel tank skidplate easy. Merry Christmas to everyone
I've seen lockers installed when the person that installed cut the excess line off with a pair of dykes. It will ALWAYS leak.
I used a razor blade just because of this.
Hey Fredward, get yourself a slide hammer for pulling those axle shafts. That's what that handy threaded hole is for. It will be MUCH easier.
lol , or at least screw a bolt into it & pull it with vice grips
Where is the fun in that?!
Best routing I’ve seen on the air line!
Good video Fred fun watching. “Now that’s a Fill Hole” on that diff👍
One of my fav 4runners glad yoy kept this one Fred, I live vicariously through you 🤣🤘🇨🇦
One of the best videos I have seen on CZcams. Excellent detail without being slow. Great sound 👏
I have a 17 4Runner with RCLT currently on 37's...going to 40 soon....I have the same gas tank skid issue you do and it has actually bent so much it was rubbing on drive shaft....just purchased RCI skid for gas tank, and have RCI sliders and skid plates. They have held up great....taken a beating and still going strong.
I zip tied my air line to the drive shaft, works great
Get yourself a Budbuilt gas tank skid. I love mine and they handle anything thrown at them. Also keep up the great videos.
I advise you go to Coastal Offroad for the skid plate. They make a standard weld together kit that goes back to the crossmember near the transmission, but they have a design for and will sell you the kit to extend that back past the gas tank.
Viscosity is a measure of a fluid's resistance to flow, so more viscous means more resistance, lower viscosity means it flows more easily.
I've had ARB air lockers in my Dynatrac 60 and pro44. Never had an issue in 10 years. I did wear out a compressor last year but I think it was because it was under the hood of my JK. I mounted the new compressor on the drivers side rear wheelwell so being inside the Jeep it won't get all the engine heat. Awesome lockers!
Wow great job!!!!
Super informative,had to subscribe👍🍻
Miss seeing you wheel these projects!!
Thanks for sharing Fred.
Shrock works makes a complete skid plate kit for the motor, transmission and transfer, as well as the gas tank that’s made out of 3/16" HRP&O plate steel skids.
I’ve had lubelockers on my truck for a year, doing some light wheeling and lots of freeway miles without dripping a single drop.
Hell ya! Makes my 2015 look like a toy!
I`ve always enjoyed off roading with you Fred !
Fred, this was a very good video - one of your best!
Looks like the hole in the axle is threaded so you don't need to pry against the circlip to remove the axle, but you can use a bolt to pull on, or if you have one, use a thread-in puller.
Need more videos with this beauti! Fred, you have threads in centre of rear axle shaft, so you can use bolts to pull them off)
IFS Independent Front Shyt lol Nothing against MC but I would rather have a D60HP up front, this setup is sweet but not 100% complete, still to many stock IFS components left to break, I would rather keep it simple and solid, Great Work Freddie And love that rear 10” axle, that’s the Shyt!
If the ends of the spidertrax axles are threaded like a grand national axle you can thread a bolt on and pop the axle out with a slide hammer.
i drove my samurai and my cherokee both daily for 7 plus years spooled buit i also had leaf springs and not links or coils or coil overs yes my cherokee had leaf springs front and rear dana 60s front and rear out of a 78 snow commander it was a beast 538 gears spooled in the rear arb in the front 39.5 tsl's up front 39.5 boggers out back
Keep the vids coming, we want everything!!!
Locker (Like Button) engaged.
RCI makes a really good steel gas tank skid plate!
I love that most rock crawlers use the same terminology. “Beef cake” 😂
Nice upgrage. Time to hit some dirt! Love dirt
Good to see you making baddass content!
Fabricate a fuel tank skidplate...it will make a great short series on the new channel!
Looks like there are threads on those axle where you stuck the screw driver. When my buddy raced we had 9" with similar style axles with threaded holes for pulling them when swapping third members.
Lube Locker gaskets are amazing. I will never use RTV as long as I have one of those available.
What a bout a lunch box locker asking because thats what i plan to put in my truck
Clampy is sick!!
your site ad on your lift worked! lol
Budbuilt skid plates are the best you can get for the 4th gen. RCI is cheaper but similar and based on the budbuilt
Man I love pond scum. I have a 5th gen and would love to build it like this with 35s as not to tub so much. When those lotto numbers hit lol
Good place to get air line fittings is your local semi parts supplier.
Victory 4c4 Make some really nice skids for 4 runners. RCI does 4Runner skids as well. I dig your projects and videos
pretty sure the nuts aren't captured in the Victory 4x4 set so it is a pain to install or remove.
Take a look at the coastal off-road skid plates for the 4th gen 4runner they are killer!
Lube and seals are pretty much a sunk cost. They say consumable. It’s better than turning a diff to slaw, though.
Thanks Fred
I’ve seen so many arb issues with arb I can’t bring myself to run one
Lube locker gaskets… SOO MUCH BETTER than freakin RTV. Hate dealing with the mess of rtv and having to clean, prep, and reapply.
Bummer, was hoping you would set it up
I've been kicking around the idea even before I started watching dirt every day going on a couple years of doing something with my 97 Ford explorer that's my daily driver
I would like to make it more trail capable but still be able to drive it on road
Wondering if you had a 97 Ford explorer with a V8 how would you build it
Would you leave the independent front or take that out and put in a solid front axle with matching rear
hey fred u indicated that it needed under armor protection and it seems similair my gx470, I've been looking at the BudBuilt skids
Damn it looks to nice to be hidden away.
What model bfgs are you running? Great video
What ever happened to the Nissan armada that you cut 800 holes in?
Pretty sure they sold it
Keep the great videos coming Fred! Just a question tho, on a fabbed housing why not have drain plug?
Just found out you had a Chanel, I've been reading 4 wheel off road mag since I was a little kid, the old cucv you put 37" on with rock sliders, I think it got stolen or something like that
Could you go more in depth with selectable lockers? Pros and cons of air vs electric. I'm in a cold weather climate and I wondered how well air lockers would work in sub zero climates for like plow trucks. I'm in the mind set of compressing air and getting moisture in the parts and it not working or even breaking.
How are you liking the seat risers? Have they made a difference on the long trip comfort? Great video as always. Thanks for keeping it going.
Great Video, How about a TrueTrack for the fromt!!!
I was hoping to see you actually drilling & tapping the housing, and setting up the carrier
thanks for your video fred i have an 80s landcruiser is the diff in pond scum the same as an 80s landcruiser
Or your under a year old Yukon air locker gets they end messed up cause the year old Yukon axle shaft breaks… and no one wants to warranty it cause they were bought from 2 places and when you finally get an answer from Yukon they don’t make the part anymore so now I have a nice paperweight…
is there anything out there for the IFS on a 04 Silverado? Maybe close to the Avalanche?
Depends do you have the 8.25 or the 9.25” front end? I know you can get RCV axle shafts for both, and E-lockers for both.
hey fred i recently purchased the RCLT HD kit and i wanna hear about ur power steering issue so i can do some adjustments to mitigate the possibility of me having the same issue on installation. looking forward to hearing from u. im really excited to get that kit
What are the steering issues? I have the RCLT too
Good video fred....does the compressor cycle while the locker is engaged? Or can you use an air tank to keep it engaged? Thx tomk fdny
wish they made a 5 log version of that for the jku rubicon tera flex makes an 8 lug full float for the 44
Yay!!
Took my spool out a my 60...to old for all the bucking and chirping
Why not do an Ox locker? Do they offer a 40 spline for a 9"?
Are you going to build that website out and link these videos?
is the shaft threaded to use a slide hammer?
That's what I was wondering.
Yup. You can see the threads when he shows the close-up when he's wiping everything down after he seats the shaft.
To bad there isn’t some thread in the center to use a bolt to pull shaft
What stops the axle shaft from backing out and breaking the cap on the spider trax axle?
Is it just the snap ring that holds the axle from sliding out?
So.....in this case, the ARB is a spool unlocker?
Isn't the air line in the way of the fill plug of the diff?
Wouldn’t a Detroit locke get the desired effect too
fred what microphone are you using
Is a spool different than a lunchbox locker?
Nice
Boron skid plates
I do not remember brand name but , i heard of a locker that when the locker breaks it is a posi , any one knows the brand name for this i would like to know !
muffler delete to complete the look
How do we borrow this truck? :)
Miss Dirt Everyday!!!! That other 4x4 show isn’t that good.
Put a JD fab kit on it
03:17 🦮🐩🐕
1st!
How much are 40” BFG MTs now days? $400ish each?
Edit- $746.99 on tire rack 😳
😂😂 $400 barely buys a quality 35” tire anymore
Shrockworks makes super heavy duty skids
Really like your show but man you’re long winded. Great info though
Fred, somehow you made this a very boring episode.
To long
