Thanks LCN. I noticed some rust developing on the area directly adjacent to my neighbor. It's a 14' wide strip from driveway to driveway. I've been maintaining about 2/3 of it because their grass is all diseased or dead and I'm trying to give a cushion of grass to keep their crap back. Well, recently, their commercial lawn guy mowed over about 2-3' on my grass and bam! RUST all over my portion!
I just found rust fungus in my lawn! Jumped on your channel and now I know what to do! I think I have been watering too much eventhough I was doing the 1 1/2” it was too much for that area. Different areas of my backyard have different problems. In that particular area the grass is high (I mow the whole b.y at 3.5). I keep it at 3.5, it’s nice and dark green and it grows regularly especially since I have been using the humic (not the brand you use) with all that it sounds pretty good and looks pretty good but a lot of low spots so I’m thinking the moisture just got trapped. I probed it I didn’t think it was too wet, it was moist about 4” I am a little surprised it could be or is a nitrogen problem. I just mailed my soil savy today so that should be interesting. I just had my top soil delivered to level lawn before my overseeding. I just hope all this work, worry and money is worth it. Thanks Allyn for all your great videos.
Dude your videos are super helpful. Thanks for the education
i just noticed this on my mower the other day. Thanks LCN looks like i have some work to do. Throw'er Down!!
Great video. Lots of great info. Thanks also for the Big W BBQ plug!
thanks for your great pics and vid my brother. I sub'd so maybe now you gotta show us some fish grilling! I've got my Weber all ready to go.
I’ve searched CZcams and finally found out what I have. Thanks!
My lady and I drove by a house today that usually has one of the best looking lawns around and she said "they are just not dominating like they use to." I believe their problem was a rust issue. But it made me laugh that she used the LCN reference. That is usually my thing but glad to see she is catching on too!
Dude, I was just literally going to look through past videos about how to control lawn rust. Perfect timing!!! Trying to rehab 30,000 sqf of lawn 🙃
Your tips have been more than helpful and being introduced to milorganite has been been the best thing since sliced bread!
Good stuff sir. Very informative
DECEMBER.!! ahhh man that's a long time for me to wait haha. Looking forward to the news though. Maybe it's that your going to go on the road .?? Maybe to VA haha :). Keep up the good work.
Ok milorganite. And i saw a video you did a wile back and you said around the holidays so 4 times a year is Good? and thanks again for the response man ur the lawn god
thank you. ordered some propiconazole 14:3. hope to spray using my ortho hose sprayer. any suggestions on dilution? will follow with fertilizer after a week.
Great video, I just want to ask if you know how to get rid of heat stress in the lawn (I have it in patches)
Is there someone or channel you can recommend for lawns in California? Love your channel!
we need a video for Dallisgrass treatment
Allyn, Do you have a specific recommendation for sprayers? Will a hose end sprayer work for this app? How do you clean your sprayer?
love the fishing clips
The crazy thing is I was JUST about to ask you about this!!! Haha. I was watering the lawn (very DRY September here) and noticed the rust disease. Thanks!
Also, prior to the disease showing up, about 2 weeks ago, I put down some Ringer. Should I put down Scotts as well on top of that?
Will do! Should I now it at 3" since I remember you saying mowing it high will make it worse?
I am in Alberta Canada. I think the rust thing has attacked my lawn. We don’t have the same regulations as the US. I Just did a second app of 30-0-3. Did the first in early May, lawn looked good, then bits turned rusty. Fingers crossed that the green will get going.
Hey LCN...have you thought of buying a aerial drone to make your videos even cooler showing the aerial difference in the lawns yard color and striping compared to neighbors yards?
Thanks Allyn!
When you do your reunion show with Jake the lawn kid you should drive south 10 min to Lowell for some more footage and showing a bigger lawn for a change
The first time I got rust, I won't lie, I freaked out haha
I'm hooked on your channel. Fired my lawn guy because he sucked, and started doing my lawn recovery. I'm in Houston so I'm looking forward to some St Augustine videos.
My biggest problem area is the 5' wide strip between the sidewalk and the curb. It's always been a problem since I've lived here. Massive brown spots every year. Tons of weeds and just a terrible looking area.
Good luck with your St. Augustine. I got tired of messing with it in our Houston climate and seeded Zenith Zoysia instead.
How exactly did you go about doing that? I've thought about doing it a few times.
I bought seed online, don't buy the junk at the big box stores because it's mainly bulking agents and very little seed. I sprayed my front yard in sections with a broad-spectrum herbicide and slowly seeded the yard. Do some reading before doing it, I'd also wait until to spring to do it.
I'm strongly considering it again. I'm just impatient and as bad as my lawn looks, I don't want to wait until Spring to get it all looking good. Maybe I'll scalp it now and put rye down to get a nice green lawn for the winter.
Put down a turf type fescue. you won't have to worry about mowing it during the winter too much.
You said if you really wanted to push it out faster to throw some nitrogen at it, how long after fungicide app would you suggest waiting until you would do that? 48hrs? A week? or as early as the fungicide has dried?
Hey big guy, been a long time follower... However I been using propiconazole 2oz per 1000 square feet... mixed with some surfactant(baby shampoo) in my pump sprayer, but I recently used spectracide immunox fungus and insect control... and I feel like I got better results with the immunox any suggestion would be appreciated...
What's your detaching schedule like for cool season grasses?
Awesome info Nut, thanks for the timely instructions and the fishing videos. Can't wait for you and Jake to be working together once again.
What about using heritage and eagle fungicides? Regarding fertilizer, can I use ringer @10 lbs/1000 Sq ft and then milo? I also have lesco at 24% N.
LCN have some clumps of grass that has been taking over my Kentucky bluegrass how can I prevent it
LCN: I'm from Tampa, we've chatted before. There are a lot of us home owners locally, who live in communities where having a lawn care service provider is a part of our community dues. But with our Fert ban we've seen a lot of clover spreading. When you create update St. Aug Florida grass grow, can you possibly address what those of us can do to bolster our chances of dominating the block.
hey Bro - you can still spray weeds during the ban... it's just fert that is not allowed. You also may want to consider this czcams.com/video/Y2Nmx9-u9KA/video.html
Can you use daconil? Someone reccomended it but on the label it doesnt mention that it is suitable for turf grass.
LCN, came home from OBX to find my lawn being crushed by the rust. I applied milo and a granular fungicide from HD on June 1. I don't have some of the products here locally in Southern IN, so should I do the 30-0-3 & spray fungicide ? Thanks.
After I apply the fungicide how soon do I apply the high nitrogen fertilizer? It's a liquid fungicideso do I wait till it dries and then throw fertilizer down its granular or I also have some liquid high nitrogen fertilizer I'm just not sure of the steps... Basically once you put the fungicides down how soon till you do the high nitrogen? Already got my milorganite for October in my shed waiting to go :-)
I have this rust but it is summer heat here in Ohio, can, or should I use high N fert this time of year?
Why did my Kentucky bless grass not grow for seed in Texas?
How do you treat it during the winter?
Noticed a white marshmello type substance on a few blades of grass. It appeared literally in 8 hours. Im puzzled. Can not find anything online. That looks like this marshmallow growth. Ever heard of this happening in such a short amount of time? We are also concerned because we have an insane neighbor that has tried to hurt our dogs just a week before this grass turned into literally marshmallow blades. Oh. When we handled it with lawn gloves we noticed that rubbing the white substance turned to black ashes. I cant make this up. Please any ideas. Thank you.
I have a Scotts Speedy Green rotary spreader. Please suggest what setting on the dial should it be if I want to use Milorganite on my lawn? I always enjoy your style of VLOGs
Agricultural cornmeal worked for me on my St. Augustine lawn in north Georgia. Year after year I had places in the center of my lawn that died beginning in late summer. Won't give the disease a name because I am no grass doctor, those are the symptoms. Somewhere I read that cheap agricultural cornmeal is the answer. Somewhere else, an expert said it wasn't the answer, and if it did work, it didn't work for the reason the nutty organic lawn care folks said it does. I found it did work. If it didn't I wouldn't waste my time and money year after year laying down cornmeal every other week beginning in late February and through October. I buy a 50 lb bag for $11.00 and it is worth the money because I no longer have to fight the crabgrass in the dead spots and nurture the new plugs. Instead, I can kick back and admire my lawn.
Fertilize first or fungicide first? How much time between them?
Football and LCN ..great Sunday
The difference: Allyn probably still stands for the National Anthem.
I wanted to ask your opinion I'm using Scott's 4 step program which Is working out well can I also throw in milorganite to that cycle and id so do i have tl wait 6 weeks between thanks again I'm a big fan great videos and information thanks again
you should not hurt anything doing that - but I would encourage you to kick the 4-step completely and go to all Milorganite and/or Ringer Lawn Restore.
LNC; just moved into a new house. What's the best approach for the lawn heading into the fall season. I'm in NJ. Thanks.
ferrari, search LNC's videos from the last couple of years, there's a some on what to do for the fall. There's one called Fall Lawn Tips
Allyn. I have a question for you if you have the time. I live in upstate New York, Syracuse area, where winters are bitter cold and summers are scorching hot. I was down to the big box retailer and saw that Pennington had a bag of 1-step seed that was all Mohawk Bermuda. It struck me as odd because the bag was labeled dense shade and, from your videos, I know Bermuda loves hot weather and full sun. Is it even feasible to grow this any kind of Bermuda way up here and in shade?
sounds like the bags got sent to the wrong store. There is no way Bermuda could grow where you are.
This is happening in MAY in Chicagoland! Please advise!
Thanks for the info. I am fighting this problem right now near the Quad Cities (Iowa side). I didn't catch your comment around the 4:40 mark in the minute. 10-14 days after the initial fungicide application & Nitrogen application, what type of application should be made? Thanks
Additional question--I have some fertilizer with a 32-0-8 ratio. Will that suffice for the Nitrogen application?
your 32-0-8 is perfect - put it down at 3lbs per 1000 SF, then 14 days later followup with a full dose of Milorganite.
What about what to do with thinning grass.
good video
I thought you shouldn’t apply nitrogen to cool season grasses in summer. Mine hates it.
Great video and definitely hits home right now! One question that I didn't hear in the video. What causes Rust Disease or Fungus in the lawn? Could over-watering cause this issue? I tried to water through the tough, hot, dry summer we had here in the midwest (SD). While I used that approach my neighbors just let their lawns go dormant. Now that we have cooler temps and rain their lawns are lush and green, while mine is suffering from yellow grass....Ugh!
Anyway- thanks for the info!!
Will brown spot over winter in the north?
Can a pre-emergent such as prodiamine and a fungicide be applied at the same time? or should I wait a few weeks between applications? got some dollarspot taking over the whole lawn.
Hey...I put down milorganite on fathers day. Can I put down the Scott's fertilizer that you're talking about in this video?
When is the best time in northeast Florida to plant grass seed, sod, or overseed?
spring. the days are going to get too short now and warm season turf needs lots more sunlight to establish.
Moles. How do you get rid of moles?
Really hope the big news is he is moving back to Indiana
I’m a bit confused with the instructions. Should we put propiconazole, milorganite and then Scotts step 3?
jessica rodriguez basically if you already have rust (which it being September and you’re here, probably do) throw down a synthetic fert and the nitrogen will take care of the rust. rust is a sign you’re low on nitrogen. The fungicide won’t get rid of it but it won’t harm it. Then in 3 weeks throw down some Milo for Halloween domination!
Allyn,
I've got a bad case of rust, I'm not able to purchase your suggested fungicide in my state (SD). Do you have any other suggestions?
yes nail the lawn with nitrogen - watch the vid again you will see where I talk about that part -- it will work fine
The Lawn Care Nut I'm a Trugreen employee. Have been for 4 years. I always try to take in everything I can to constantly learn more so I can help the customers. Thanks for the great vids
going to be traveling for Halloween no way to witness the domination!
I used to get rust when I didn't keep up with fertilizing
my neighbors yard turns your feet black. its in the seedpods of his grass/weeds. looks like mildew. grass looks healthy otherwise.
Where ur new video
Is that a diet Dr. Pepper? I love Dr. Pepper
Video #200! Not counting any deleted ones, of course.
you are the second person to notice this - I had not even thought about it lol
I live in central Indiana.
Milorganite has been increasingly harder to find for 2 years or 3 years now. I guess Milwaukee Metro residents aren't shitting as much as they use to.
dont forget that your next vid is vid #200! unless you deleted some or don't count some. anything special planned for it?
Shark fin soup goooooood
Allyn what to do about gophers/ moles? They are driving me nuts!! Not in a lawn care but way. Lol !! Help!!!😫
Get a lab or a big cat! other than that, Ive heard that Tomcat baits work but I have never tried them
MsStuff00 hey try Triazicide ,the mole is freating on grubs and will destroy you lawn,I put it down 2 times annually instructions are easy on back can be bough at Lowes or Homedepot for sure Ive used for 3 years with great results it will take some time though not a fast fix but will stop.hope thos helps
Another exceptional video LCN. I noticed the warping paint under your window sill in your office. Suggest some silicone on the outside window frame and new weather stripping where the window meets joins the frame when it closes. Prevent further damage before it becomes a more expensive issue. We'd rather have you focus on lawn issue rather than general house issues.
what about soil ph?
if you have a pH issue then rust is the least of your worries. So in that case, yes, stressed turf is more susceptible than vigorous/healthy turf. Hence the need for a shot of N to grow it out quickly.
another great video! but I always prefer your Frankenlawn videos...I have 14.000 sq. ft of bermuda.
I busted a pustule on my nose once. I think I will start watching just for the fishing action.
I have a cool season lawn. I have a vole problem, not mole, VOLE. it's bad. None of my neighbors have them. I live in town and don't have a big lawn. is have been spraying castor oil and dish soap but they laugh at it. Poison doesn't seem York either.
That one guy stole my Mom's hat.
I believe big news is he has gotten sponsorship and is going mobile. Hint was he is going back and filming with Jake The lawn nut kid. you heard it here first.
Looking forward to seeing him getting back to his roots... and pun intended. I miss seeing that beautiful lawn up north. Looking forward to seeing how well that lawn held up without the LCN for only a year as well. Way cool stuff soon.
How did you convince the buyers of your old house to let you humiliate them for failing to maintain your obnoxiously awesome lawn? I'm sure that they are hauling in truck loads of milorganite and liquid iron to prepare.
It's a single lady and Jake The Lawn Kid has gotten the permission - that dude is a real salesman!
Great, so not only do the amateur landscapers my neighbors hire mow across my property line and scalp the grass to the dirt, but now you tell me they can also bring fungi and diseases from other lawns and infect mine... crazy.
I see it all the time on my customers lawns that use landscapers. spread weeds also from other lawns.
No PC BS Put some physical barriers in place to prevent them from crossing your property line
Flawless Strategy maybe have a convo with them? Perhaps offer to do their lawns for some $$$$$.
was dat a shark!!!!!!
Granular fungicides don't work well, stick with liquids.
Hate your cuts to random stuff. But good info
How do u dominate your neighbor or neighborhood if they are all watching your channel!!!!!!
What about organic treatment. Chemicals are so bad for the environment
I already know In Dec ur getting married.
Awesome vid. And totally what I've got coming through on my lawn up here on Vancouver Island, looking forward to re dominating.
