Yes..if you want to kill unwanted bacteria, algae, phosphates, etc. by turning on the UV light, you need to slow the flow rate down...the slower flow rate let's the UV light kill these bacterias very quickly and efficiently...then after a few days, you can turn the UV off and increase flow rate.

Has anyone done a test yet to see the actual GPH you can get from this with media present in it?
The 404B which is what I have now was rated at 525 GPH, but when others tested it with media it would actually get just around 300 GPH. That is when it is new.
My current 404B after three and a half years is getting probably closer to 150. Three of the four trays have actually completely dissolved as well around the circular opening.
I have just ordered a HW-3000 from Amazon seeing it is rated at 793GPH. I am hoping it actually runs close to that with media.
I would really like to be able to switch from three filters down to one powerful filter.
    Right now I have:
SunSun 404B giving me around 150GPH (Rated at 525 GPH) 3 Years Old
Fluval U4 giving me around 220GPH (Rated at 260 GPH) 4 Years old
Fluval Aqualclear 70 giving me around 250GPH (Rated at 350 GPH) 3 Years Old
    For a total of 620GPH.
This HW-3000 is rated at 793GPH, as long as it actually outputs close to what it is rated at it should work for me, which is why I am interested in seeing if anyone has actually tested it who owns one :)

    • @GSP-76

I have the 3000 on my 150g freshwater tank..I was using two 304b canisters and now I'm using this and one 304b...the flow rate is definitely less once you fill up the trays with media...the best way to preserve more GPH is to use either the bottom tray or bottom two trays with mechanical filtration and the top two or three with biological. Don't put a filter pad in each tray the way they show you in the videos as that will negatively affect gph more. I have used the Fluval FX6 in the past and can honestly say that this filter is better..it's probably the best overall filter available on the market and for $125 you can't go wrong..if you seal the o-ring with silicone lubricant, it will last you a very long time.

    • @Halaster
      @Halaster Před 5 lety

@@GSP-76 Thanks for the reply. The unit definitely appears to be way nicer than the 404b. I received it and set it up no problem. The new way of priming and the individual shut off valves for input and output are really nice. So is the touch screen and built in UV scheduling. I mean it really is hard to complain for its features based on the price of $125, but the actual water output is definitely faaaar lower than what they are rating it at. It can barely push water all the way across my 135 Gallon tank. Which is truly disappointing because there are 3500 L/H (924GPH) internal filters you can pick up on Aliexpress and Wish for like $11 now. So the cost for them to put a better pump into this thing should be pretty negligible for them.

Hi I have a sunsun hw 3000lph filter. On the top of the filter where the hoses are connected to the taps, the intake lever needs to be down ie the picture of a tap without a drip and the right lever pushed to on ie the tap with the drip. Put a couple of cups of tank water down the top of the green tubes by un screwing the grey nuts and gently removing the blue plugs(one at a time). Once this is done replace the blue plugs on both and screw on the grey nuts. Now go back and make sure both levers on the top of the hose connectors are now both on the taps with the drips and turn on the pump. A little noise at first but after 3 seconds all good. I have only use the tube with the intake strainer and not the surface skimmer. Less complicated and alot less noise.
      Really hope this helps.

If you want higher flow rate, your better off going with a sump and separate water pump/power head...in an enclosed canister, 800-1000gph is the maximum that will work.

From what I’ve researched on the Sunsun and the Fluval is that the Fluval is a bare bones filter that moves a ton of water and the Sunsun is more of a updated version of the Fluval with some bells and whistles that 9 times out of 10 leak or just doesn’t work unless u throw more money at it. So in my opinion and for the money just save time and go with the Fluval and call it a day.

That only really applies to bulbs that get super hot like old style car headlamp bulbs because the oil from your fingers can boil and cause the glass to fracture, it's unlikely a UV bulb in a canister filter will get anywhere near hot enough but better safe than sorry so I'd say put gloves on or hold it with some tissue just to be sure 👍

The chinglish in attempt to make sense of the display, and extreamly poor (failing attempt) is a deal breaker for me, I just refuse to bend backward that far. This along with the rice filled plastic failing with use of the (who knows if it ever worked at all???) UV light. Try finding someone who went to college in the US. It also fails to comply with the FCC part 95 spurious radiation radiated from the variable frequency supply, no shielding at all. I had to install extra equipment to isolate the electrical noise from my shortwave station. Makes me wonder if this is safe for my house at all. Nice try, did not fool this engineer. Hopefully in the future sunsun will gather some better market presence when they make these little but very cheap & important changes.

It's a simple timer that starts the moment you plug it in, and the uv icon flashes when it's on.
If you set it for 2 hours and plug it in at noon it will come on the next day at noon for 2 hours and repeat everyday unless the power goes out.
