  • Here is a video request from Fenix for me to compare the new Fenix PD36R Pro to the older PD36R flashlight in performance. Let me know what you think of them and what you think between them. Also see links below to accessories you can purchase with these lights as well. Fenix will be reading comments in the description area below video. Now the PD36R is sporting the Luminus SST40 LED at 1600 lumens on turbo. The PD36R Pro is sporting the Luminus SFT70 LED at 2800 lumens on turbo.

    Intrested to see how the lower levels compare? As most of the time i use moonlight, low and high only use turbo if absolutely necessary. That double tail switch looks intresting ? So looking forward for full review? Tks .

    I have been using a PD36R for a couple years now, since it was released, it’s my EDC light. The issue IMO with the PD36R Pro is the run time in particular with high mode 1000 lumens at 4 hour run time. While the the other will do 800 lumens at like 6 hours.
    The lumen difference is barely noticeable but that extra 2 hours of run time will definitely be noticed.

      @goforbroke2
      This is an interesting topic.
      I also have the PD36R and I'm happy with it.
      Unfortunately so far I have never done tests with stopwatch and luxometer and I have to trust the reviews seen on the web.
      According to Zeroair's review, the PD36 on High=800 lumens remains stable for about 20 minutes then drops to 500 lumens (this would explain the high runtime on High of the PD36R)
      For the PD36R Pro I found the graphs in the review on the "1 lumens" website
      The PD36R Pro at the High= 1000 lumens level lasts a very few minutes before dropping to around 800 lumens where it lasts just over two hours.
      This would explain the lower autonomy of the new version, it seems that it has less but however it maintains 800 lumens for at least two hours while the previous PD36R at 800 lumens lasts only 20 minutes before going down to 500 lumens.
      What I wrote I found on the web, if someone has both versions could do some tests to confirm or deny this..
      I was hoping that the PD36 R Pro could maintain a constant 1000 lumens but apparently this is not the case, maybe the heat is too much for a flashlight of this size.. the TK20R V2.0 with the bigger and thicker head maybe could do this.

    Thanks for the video.
    Your beamshots are probably the best on CZcams
    I like that you move the flashlight very slowly, so whoever sees the video can evaluate the beam well 👍
    Comparing flashlights one at a time is also perfect.
    Other people move their hand quickly and turn on two torches at the same time, it's not easy to evaluate the beam like that..
    I have the PD36R and I really like it, I think it's one of Fenix's most successful models.
    Also buy the PD36R Pro? Difficult to decide, the first has "only" 1600 lumens (but can maintain a high power for a long time) the second is more powerful and has much more throw but the high power does not last long because then the brightness drops rapidly due to the heat.
    The advantage of the new version is more in the new interface than in the power.

  • @NightFly216

    Thanks for another informative video. The pd36r in either model is a fine flashlight, I really like my original model. Other than the tail mode switch, I really don’t know if I see the need to upgrade but it’s a great and useful light.

    I have the PD36R and its a damn good light for those looking for that perfect balance of flood and throw. The body on the PD36R Pro has the ability to be used with a pressure switch and rail mount accessory. The numbers sound impressive on the Pro model but they drop down to 1000 lumens pretty fast.

  • @realbroggo
    @realbroggo Před rokem +1

    Pro noticeably brighter. Colour tint looks ok in use. Many tac lights tend to run bright white as illumination is usually more important than colour rendering. As far as I can tell all Fenix have done is upped the LED spec & moved the mode switch to the rear. For a tac style user the Pro switch is a plus as you have full control in one place (no need to move hand) but EDC style users will probably find this annoying as it dictates had positioning a lot more. Is the Pro any good? Only if you like the change to the secondary switch. Max brightness not relevant as most lights don't run turbo for long. Hope this helps.

    Thanks for the work you put in on these videos.
    I prefer the Pro between those two for the dual tail switch.
    Wondering what run times look like between the two.
    I’m a Felix fan. I edc an LD30 occasionally. I prefer my FW3a in momentary for my personal lighting needs.
    I keep a TK16v2 in my backpack, and the Pro would be my choice to replace that light. Between these two anyway.
    If I need power and throw I’d pick something else. If I wanted to replace my edc I’d pick something else, 21700 light isn’t edc friendly for me.
    both are very very good lights that will work when you need them too and not leave you lacking in performance. If I had either in the dark I’d be plenty happy.

  • @k4vms
    @k4vms Před rokem +1

    Well Fenix, that was a mistake leaving out a side switch. With a side switch and tail switch the light can be used as EDC or in a tactical scenario.
    The older light looks like it’s brighter than the newer version.
    The best way to do an A/B comparison and keep all variables the same is to use the same battery in both lights and measure the output of each light with a light meter. Then put to freshly charged batteries in each light and again use a light meter to measure the output.
    Then for visual inspection then do your normal process indoors and then outdoors.
    In the outdoor demonstration it appears that the newer light does put out a little more light than the inside demonstration where it looked like the older light appeared to output more light.
    As I said previously a best practice is to follow up a visual demonstration with instruments
    Even it the output of the newer light is greater is it enough to make a real difference

      Lux meter testing was done but indoor with lighting above really did appear that older was a bit brighter but distance is where they wanted it tested and videoed. I believe the newer one is a clear winner as I like the tactical feel of it. Thanks for your input and watching as well!

      @stefanozebralight518 Před 11 měsíci +1

      You can use 18650 (quality) batteries on these flashlights (even with flat positive pole) if you buy a Fenix adapter, it's called: Fenix ALF-18
      It is a well made plastic tube which has gold plated springs inside, you can use 18650 batteries on flashlights born for 21700 batteries.
      I bought it for emergency and I tried it once to see if it works (tested on PD36R and PD36 TAC)

      @@stefanozebralight518 do you happen to know what is the minimum AMPs the 18650 need to have in order to get the PD36R PRO run the 2800 lumen turbo? to my understanding, if it doesn't enough AMPs, it won't run that 2800 lumen step.

      The tree of life represents the afterlife, and connection between the earth and heaven. The bond and affection to trees is so deep that Celts believed the actual trees were their ancestors, gatekeepers to the Celtic Otherworld. As such, the tree of life in Celtic Culture is sacred.
