It would benefit from a 50 degree gear because of the new k20 RBC manifold. Some k24’s even lose power with an RBC compared to the stock manifold without a 50 degree VTC. Great video! Thanks for sharing!
What’s up guys so I was always scared to through on a rbc cause of your comment lol I thought it was gonna be the waste of the 400$ for a rbc I paid 230 lol but anyways I had got dyno tuned with just exhaust header and cai I made 213hp with 168 tq (greddy 2.36) exhaust and a dtr header, I went back to my tuner with a hks 65mm and a skunk 2 header and that rbc with a spacer to still use my stock throttle body, I ended up getting all that retuned and made 227hp with 185tq similar to what this guy made I just made about 10 tq more, so pretty much saying in my case the rbc did a lot for me , I made a bunch of more torque just cause of that , and during the tune we did a run to see how much I was making with the rbc untuned I made 220 right off the back, so you do make a tiny bit of power without tuning it but once you tune it you gain a bit more and a lot of more torque so getting it tuned helps a lot!!

Tuning by Nick awesome brother. Looking forward to it. By the way it’s odd your RSX made more power in stock form than the ep3 k24A you tunes and dynoed. Just found that odd that’s all.
Hi Nick, Just out of curiosity.. Did you measure difference between k24 and k20 oil pump on k24a2/3 engine? I would like to know ho much power can hold balance shafts. Thank you in advance for your answer!
Hey Nick, loving your videos! I have a k20 type R swapped mr2 spyder. But also have a k24 in the garage. I was always planning a K20/24 build. But is it really worth the hassle of assembling a K20/24 frank or should I just put in the k24 with 50* vtc and type R oil pump and call it a day? Will keeping the k20 head with the k20 cams give me that much of an advantage, of at all?
I've seen 2002-2004's in decent shape for around 3K, I'm thinking of grabbing one and throwing in a K24/K20. Checkout his guys build czcams.com/video/Cv4NjiG_rug/video.html I'm not sure how but he's making over 220 torque with stock motor just cams.
So what do I need to do same swap to my 05 type s ? 06-08 tsx or jdm k24, and a kTuner? Do I need other mounts or parts to make this swap work ? I have a z1 now but might be looking for upgrade
I spent hours trying to search info for a K24 build. Ive found the highest output "OEM" build is based on the following: 06-08 K24A2 block K20A2 Head 06-08 TSX cams RSX Type-S cam gear Type-S oil pump Type-S oil pan I scoured multiple forums for this info and this has been upheld by a majority consensus. Hope this helps anyone looking for direct answers like I was.
You can use a A2 or Z1 head. They're the same cast, the Z1 has the better cams, but it's been noted, as you wrote, that the TSX cams in either of those heads produces about an additional 10hp over the A2 cams, maybe 5hp over the Z1 cams.
Thank you for giving all this info. I know it's a year later, but do you have a teat run on the 30 degrees? So we can see the difference. Thank you again for all the tests and info. Peac n love my man.
I dont personally do much install work these days but i'll see what i can do. In the meantime. Check out my friends channel - Speed Academy - They have great video on that - Heres the link czcams.com/video/txvwWJmxB3U/video.html
Have you done any testing with the stock tsx intake manifold vs the RBC? Hondata shows a loss in tq but your graph looks awesome. I'm doing this swap and trying to decide if its worth adding the RBC, thanks!
Did you use the stock oil pump or did you use a k20 oil pump with the balance shaft delete? Nice combo will hit you up when I get my k24 type r up and running ivd got a basemap 👍
Aren’t you supposed to swap over type S oil pump & plug an oiling cavity under the windage tray to avoid loss of oil pressure and cavitation at higher rpm?
The higher angles increase overlap and help with scavenging until very high rpm where the cam angles may want to be retarded to take advantage of the air inertia and the ram air effect. If this was a turbo application I would expect less cam advance in the mid range due to backpressure from the exhaust system. The k24 and k20 share almost the same bore only the k24 has a longer stroke making it undersquare. The k20 may rev higher but the peak torque figure would be less. The k24 may make more torque but at a lower rpm. Thus, both engines can have roughly the same hp but their torque figures can be quite different. If the k24 made its peak torque at the same rpm as the k20, the k24 would make more power mathematically. However the K24 being undersquare, limits the maximum rpm lower than that of the k20. Also, the K24 head is designed to be most efficient and operate at a lower rpm, thus any larger increase in rpm may net a decrease in torque. If you can safely get the k24 to rev like the k20 then fitting a k20 head to the k24 may be beneficial.

K24 > K20. The K20 is better suited for boost with a higher redline , less compression and make more top end on boost due to a better flowing head however the K24 on boost is better balanced between torque and horsepower if you want more torque.

I have a question what clutch stage would you recommend for a k24 turbo making 300-350hp
Spooling Nation - It really depends which brand. But usually stage 3 and up is what you need for a boosted setup
Competition Clutch Stage 4.
Spooling Nation anything under 400 an exedy stage 1 holds fine and is easy on the trans I know from experience
Dudehoolikesairsoft thank u🔥👍🏽
Tuning by Nick what’s your IG and FB?
what Air fuel numbers under WOT do you aim for?
Moses Moonsie 12.5 afr is the target for full throttle
@@tuningbynick thanks for the response.
K20 all day
how is 227 bad when a tsx only produces 200hp? that's actually very accurate, did i miss something?
Josiah Butler - I agree, think the results were very good.
Tuning by Nick i was making sure i wasnt tripping, 227 off of those simple kods is correct, its a k24 they made more numbers than k20s
@@josiahbutler2254 yeah it’s good numbers . The dyno reads hp to the wheels so if we’re talking about crank hp that dealers use to advertise their cars, 200 hp from the stock tsx to around 255-260 hp (227 hp to the wheels) is very good for basic bolt ons and a tune. 40-50 hp gain from those small things and a tune is what makes the k series engines great
What’s the name of those wheels?
jose torres they are Konig Hypergram wheels.
would it make a difference to throw a k20 head on top of that k24?
The K20 Head might make a bit more power with these 06 TSX cams - But I dont think the cost of swapping the head would be worth the minimal gain
What exhaust?
Kevin Ly - it’s a custom 2.5” straight through exhaust. It’s not a good one tho. Lots of bad joints/welds in it.
what lip is that on the front? looks great.
Hunter Johnson -It’s actually that stick on universal stuff. Like this stuff. www.amazon.ca/Original-EZ-Lip-Universal-Spoiler/dp/B009F10S3Y/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?keywords=universal+stick+on+front+lip&qid=1573698720&sr=8-3
Is it hard to put a k24 on a rsx type s?
star dust - It’s not a difficult swap. Pretty straight forward
@@tuningbynick I have done all my work on bserious but nothing on k's
Or you can get best of both worlds and do a k20 head and k24 block
I would love to try that combo - I sold the old engine tho, so i dont have a K20 head anymore
