Most of the interior doors in British houses/flats are just plywood with cardboard inside them. I know this because I've kicked in more than a few of them.
We get a lot more paid time off than you do in the US. If some nerd like Mark went in like that, chances are his boss would send him home in case he was contagious, and then cost a load of paid time off when everyone else got ill.

I got locked into a toilet at work late at night. I turned the handle and it just came up and the door wouldn’t unlock. No one else in the building, forgot my phone and perhaps facing being stuck in there the whole weekend I lost it and kicked the door down 😂

Yes, I don't know what the appeal of Benidorm is. It has a few funny jokes, but over 90% of it isn't worth watching.
What an egotistical thing to say, nobody is forcing you to watch, plenty of shows on here I don't like but never would I want them to stop watching and enjoying content because I don't like it.

I must say i am struggling somewhat, to understand is why those books mentioned are apparently banned in some states schools. Ok , though i can't see how, Lord Of The Flies might encourage kids to get marooned on an island after a plane crash and set up some sort of society which inevitably breaks down and one of them gets killed because they are just kids, but are not these read at schools accompanied with teacher involvement and a certain level of in depth analysis ? Catcher In The Rye, To Kill A Mocking Bird, classic and essential reading , surely ?

I used to work on a steel making plant, we used to do 7am - 3pm, one day this guy came in at like 06:45 just to say he was feeling ill and going home haha, in fairness, he’d worked there about 30 years and was in his sixties then and was just waiting until he could retire so I don’t think he cared

24:49 Yeah, we only get one set of ads in the middle of 20-30 min shows like sit-com's and 3 sets of ads for 40-50 min long shows with before/after ads of course. The best thing, though is that the BBC have like 4 channels and non of them put any ads during shows or movies because it's payed for by tax or TV license's or something and though BBC FOUR isn't everyone's taste with more Documentaries and stuff for older people, it has no ads, NONE, as oppose to what I've recently found out about your sit-com's like The Big Bang Theory having 3 mid-roll ads (which explains all those atom animations) and in later seasons only having like 18 minutes of actual content.

Magic eye pics, aka stereo-grams. I used to see a the 3d object, my Dad would test me, cos he couldn't get the hang of how to do it. He'd hide the pic showing the spoiler image, and I'd tell him what I saw, which always matched. These days when I look at them, I see what I can only describe as, a mold of the object, sunken into the pic, instead of the object.

The show mentioned in this episode, The Young One's, was the first show I saw Rik Mayall in. If you can find that, it's nuts. I was still at school when that show was on TV. Also Adrian Edmonson is in it. Rik and Ade we're a comedy duo for year's.
I think this is the best episode of Peep Show.

@@davidz3879 Because if you're phoning in sick the point is to make sure they believe you and leaving a message comes across as a bit of a cop out..Or it seemed to in some of the places I've worked in...And Jeremy pretty much says why...in his inimitable way.

I went into work one time to say I couldn't do my shift, because I had no choice at the time. It was half past 5 in the morning, my phone was down and even if it wasn't there was nobody in the office at that time. I just wandered along (it was only 5 minutes from home), got the first person I could find to relay the message and then I wandered back home and went back to sleep. That is going back a few years now. Now I would just phone in and hope for the best that somebody answered.

Definitely been in to work whilst unwell, and have been sent home too. Although, weirdly they wanted me to stay at work once even after spending an hour vomiting with food poisoning (and at the time, i worked directly with the public and food). Never gone in to tell them I'm too ill to work though. If im feeling that unwell, im certainly not in a state to drive or take public transport. Often, when i get ill, because of my dreadful immune system, I end up bed bound for a week or two - no money would make me go in to tell them I'm too ill to work when im in that state 😅🤦

I’ve worked in the office used for JLB. Unfortunately it’s been knocked down now.
I drag myself into work even if I am ill most of the time, and if they decide to send me home then so be it but at least I've shown I'm clearly not well. I think it's guilt that makes me go in because if I don't go and show it people will think I'm faking it and will be furious with me cos their day just got harder with one less staff member.

6:55 I don't think Jez was suggesting that 'face to face' was necessary. He said 'mano a mano', which actually translates to 'hand to hand' from latin. But I've always assumed from the context of this situation (Marks question about voicemail) that Jez is suggesting Mark can only do it with a personal phone conversation. One of the very few times I agree with Jez!
Even the message being passed on by a third party is a bad idea, either someone else at work or a family member or friend speaking to 'the boss' would be a bad idea. But as you say, if you're well enough to get into work, the game is over so a phone call is fine.

Could be wrong, but I think this is the only episode in which Johnson and Super Hans are in the same scene.
Hans' interactions are almost all with the various women he's involved with, as well as Jez & Mark. Hans has little to do with the other characters, including Sophie, Dobby, Suze, April, Elena, Gail, Zahra, Sarah, Megan, Joe, Gerard, Ben, Andy, Johnson, Jerry etc.
