    An absolutely beautiful watch no one seems to be discussing (except Teddy) is the Cartier Santos MEDIUM with a blue dial. Previously the blue Santos came in large size only. This thing looks as good as the blue Nautilus, is water resistant to 100 meters, and comes with one of the best bracelets in the business that can be both removed and adjusted without a tool. I can't wait to get my hands on it.

    • @IInkHeart
      @IInkHeart Před rokem +1

      Very conflicted with this blue dial release vs the OG white dial.. I see myself potentially changing straps due to the quick switch function and a white dial just seems more versatile in that regard. Really like the applied numerals and lumed hands on the blue dial though and was wanting Cartier to release the Medium blue for a long time. Then again knowing my wardrobe's colour palette, I'll probably end up with navy, black, brown, grey, at most green on straps, which other than green, matches with the blue dial too. Really, Cartier did exceptional this W&W.

    That Parmigiani Fleurier watch is spectacular! The photographs don’t do it justice, you need to see it in action to fully understand it! I don’t dive, but use a rotating bezel to time most things. This handles that duty with more refinement and can be hidden when not needed. Yep, I have a crush on PF too! Also, not liking something, but understanding why it exists and respecting it for that, is a thoughtful stance as opposed to just being ruled by emotional/knee jerk outbursts. “I don’t like it so it shouldn’t exist and you’re stupid for liking it!” always makes me laugh. At 22k there are clearly much better options for those seeking a dress watch (Like you suggested, I'd get a Lange Saxonia), and I'm a little confused why they have a Syloxi instead of Parachrom hairspring. Well the IWC movement comparison isn't the main issue. The Patek Calatrava and Nautilus share the same movement, which is the Caliber 26-330 S C. The main problem is that IWC lacks hype and this reiteration of the Genta designed model will give the brand better value retention. After that, people won't be comparing the "base" movements.

    My top 3 from W&W would be the Tentagraph, the slimmed down Black Bay, and the full gold GMT. I love seeing what GS can do with movements and of course it will be amazingly finished. That said, I don't thing the blue dial in this instance is for me, but once they come out with some other options or I see one in the metal and perhaps change my mind, I'm sure it will have a spot in my collection. The changes to the Black Bay, upgraded movement, slimmer case, less slab sided case with the bubble back, the tweaks to the hands and dial, they all work for me. And then the full gold GMT is the type of blingy rolex that just needs to exist. This will likely never be in my price range, but I am really glad that it's out there.

Last year's flower motif was a lame attempt to cater to the blingy jewelery customers market, and this year's color balls and puzzles are lame attempts to cater to the Gen-Z consumers' market. What angers me most is that instead of taking the effort to design a whole new product line or provide a younglings' version of the existing product (Omega X Swatch MoonSwatch comes to mind), they simply litter the dials of their classic designs with what they think would appeal to consumer group whose aesthetics may be far away from their more classic products.

    Hey Teddy, I think the Rolex 1908 looks amazing, but it very much reminds me of the IWC Portugieser 75th Anniversary Edition. What do you reckon?

    I might be ignorant, but doesn't the Zenith Pilot dial look a lot like the Speake-Marin Ripple?

    Pretty sure the term “pilot” had been in use for a long time before air travel, with watercraft navigation.

    Thing about Rolex is that most people who buy them want people to know it’s a Rolex, and that new cellini doesn’t look like a Rolex

    Rolex went while with two eccentric dials, the puzzle and celebration. They look like my child’s play book . Regardless of their unconventional release they will always be my favorite brand , love Rolex . Great video Teddy, with tons of information ,thanks for keeping us informed and updated

      I'm sure I heard that the puzzle dial is for autism awareness...I thought that was a great cause...even if a little misplaced given the way the watch looks and who it is aimed at with the model they released it on....

    The Ingenieur is the model that most excited me this year. Can’t wait to see it in person. Looks fantastic, history, and solid specs (thickness and power reserve especially IMO).

      What is your thought on the movement? I like it but it has the same movement as the Marx XX, which makes it harder for me to justify

    The 1908 is spectacular, and if we support it, perhaps it would encourage them to do something more like a star index moonphase or nearby.

    Great coverage of the IWC Ingenieur 40. The finishing is sublime and this will be an incredible platform for chronos and perpetual calendars coming in time. I do not think the movement drives as much of the value of the watch as the integrated case-bracelet and its finishing does. I don’t think it’s a fair comparison to the Mark XX. Keep in mind that the IWC Grand Complication also had a ETA 7750 base movement - but did not stop anyone from objecting to a $200k+ watch.

    Hot take: If Rolex only had the crown (aka a brand variation like many high worth vintage watches) on the 1908 theyd sell out immediately and build out the hype around the new model

  • @minimalistmaverick

    It really is a shame of the price on the IWC. I've never followed that brand much, but this watch looks amazing and has all the features i could want. But more than the price of a rolex? i couldn't do that..

      probably not more than what a Rolex will actually cost you if you dont want to give your local dealer a reach around though. I think I'll get one one i see it irl, it looks great in pics but i need it on my wrist to be sure

  • @derosa1989
    @derosa1989 Před rokem

    It's funny the Rolex 1908 seems confusing to people. It's not that expensive for a gold Rolex. If you really look at the Cellini, it has major issues, 1) It was too thick, the moonphase is 13.4mm, thicker than a Submariner! The date-only model was still 12mm thick 2) Closed case back for this style watch was really out of step with the alternatives, but because the movement was nothing to look at! 3) The dial graphics are too busy, needed to be cleaned up. 4) Cellini handset totally lacked any sophistication or imagination. 5) Time-Only model is very plain. They missed the mark with all the Cellini configurations, and the 1908 addresses every one of the shortcomings, it's a much more contemporary design with a bit of a retro vibe.
    I think the target for the 1908 will be the Rolex collector who wants somewhere to go after already owning multiple stainless steel sports watches, as they get a bit more mature in their journey, but are really fans of the Rolex brand, and may not even seriously consider collecting other brands.
