I agree about marty he fixes most furniture but doesn't want to be on video although he's quietly in the background repairing items...... He had to be in this video as it was a bigger fix. Plus he's such a cutie I like it when I can convince him to do it. Marty is very funny and behind the scenes makes me laugh he is very creative and a great motivator. He's my partner in crime and my cake eating buddy. He deserves quite often a very large part of my gratitude on reimagining our furniture. One of my older sons also very much deserves a mention who with marty does an awful lot of lifting and carrying..... They are the removal and collection dream team. I understand what your saying about constant reminders about our papers... We have lots of ways to market and of course I will mention it but that kind of selling is not really me..... Ha ha eve maybe its because I'm Scottish... It's exciting here as marty is starting to look at distributers in all places all over the world.... Its incredibly humbling. Wonderfully transformed small cabinets from nothing much to upscale creations. Never satisfied with a nice but uneventful decoupage technique, adding the stencil added so much. OK, so I checked out many of the others who joined in this Ugly Duck challenge, and although many took pains to reconstruct broken and damaged pieces, the finished product more often than not, was not eye catching. Honestly, I was disappointed as I scrolled through and found nothing unique, none that came close to compare with yours. As I said, some put in a lot of work that transformed old and ugly pieces to something useful and pleasant. But in my estimation, you WON! Kudos kiddo.
Ha ha thanks my lovely friend sydni.... I missed a trick I was supposed to tell everyone to go and vote on the play list but forgot.... Ha ha never mind I feel you sydni restoring and furniture art are different.... Anyway I'm taking part in another of these for Halloween so there's a spooky creation coming.... Love to you sydni x x
This is seriously perfect for my bedroom just like I’ve been imagining doing for the last year but my health has been an issue and money lol. But you took this piece of dumped furniture and turned it into a literal masterpiece❣️❣️❣️
I'm so sorry to hear your health is not the best my thoughts go out to you... As for finances find a free piece and but some cheap paint and try to do a little bit when you can... It will make your emotional health feel better and your mental health.... Creativity is a good way of keeping your mind of all the bad stuff... Lel x x
So much about this worried me- the not sanding, not fixing broken bits but…. Wow. It’s beautiful. I do think the transfers took away from Morag. But overall beautiful.
I do furniture art I'm an artist, I'm not a restorer I don't want a factory finish in fact I do not want smooth at at all, I want lots and lots of rich texture. With Annie sloan paint no need to sand or prep..... so no need to worry... Thanks Lel x
I believe the skiff is the trash? It’s amazing what you and have done with this! You’ve taken something that was being thrown away, and turned it into a work of art! I would love to have these as night tables. They are a little tall, but I wonder if you cut off the very bottom part where all you had was the beautiful turned part of the leg if that would damage the work? Or if it would bring it down in size to where it would be more useful? I hate to even suggest that because they turned out so gorgeous! Just beautiful!
I guess interior design now trends taller cabinets and I'm selling them this hight so I find it on trend. I guess yes if you were doing it you could cut them, the legs I felt were way to pretty to cut ... They were snapped up. Yes a skip in Scotland is what you might call a dumpster I think. First time I've seen Martyn! 😇😇😇 The legs on that piece are beautiful. Nice of the person who put it in the skip to have put it in upside down. I didn't realize that separating the cupboard parts from that crazy piece in the middle would require so much work. Good thing Martyn showed us what they looked like after he separated them, just in case I should try and do something like this myself.😱 I watched you mix that first dark blue color, Lel. How did you know that was the color you wanted? I see that as the mystery/vision part of what you do. Did you already know you were going to paint the tops black? I was holding my breath watching you do the stenciling. Just holding it with one hand, painting with the other, and at the same time knowing just how it was going to frame Morag. Me? I would have been measuring, taping, AND holding my breath for fear of messing it all up. It's your casual confidence that reveals the artist who knows exactly what she's doing. Blows me away. Every. Single. Time.😯😯😯⭐⭐⭐The staging is perfect BTW.
Yes it was good I saw those legs As for colour choice I generally plan in advance my colours so I know they will work.... I pick colours from decoupage or transfers or any interest even handles.... Just have a good look at your colours together before you start just to make sure they work. Or buy a cheap colour wheel from Amazon this will help you pick complimentary colours etc.... X x x

Wow~ Your choice of color and art are so outstanding that I can't help but wonder. Can you give us a link exactly what product you used and what color you used?
Hi Barbara, Wood Glue is a little stronger than PVA watered down or not. If the decoupage paper you are using is like ours and a little more robust than others then we are sure it would be fine. Cant speak to other lighter decoupage papers, sorry, thats not a great answer but we would suggested testing on a spare piece of wood or a board and seeing what happens if its not one of our papers. Janene I do get paint all over my clothes.... Then I just wear them for painting till they get so bad I move onto others.... All my clothes have paint on... Ha ha I am a very very messy painter... Do you paint furniture? Are you a tidy or clean painter? Thanks for watching. Love Lel x
Nice job as always! Love the color scheme. The furniture had cool legs--always love those curved/wavy shaped legs. Is there a specific name for that? Loved the video with the two of you. I loved how you address the upside down/bottom side of furniture. As a graphic designer I loved any packaging project because you address the top/bottom/sides/backside, etc. I do the same now with furniture, cabinets, etc. I love a pop of color inside the cabinets or inside drawers. I love how you think about all of that. I hope you win the challenge. Just love your very artsy, painterly way.
What a comment.... Thanks so much. The legs are called barley twist legs but wavy curly works for me. Yes packaging especially as I ship a lot to London often it has to go upside down and I like it to look good from that angle.... And I have often have customers meet us at out van with excitement and don't like when the bottom faces out I need to make sure there are no drips underneath. Even if they will not be seen. I'm with you a pop of colour inside just adds an extra element especially if your selling... Thanks so much for watching us and being there from the begining. It means lots yo us. Lel x

OK, so I checked out many of the others who joined in this Ugly Duck challenge, and although many took pains to reconstruct broken and damaged pieces, the finished product more often than not, was not eye catching. Honestly, I was disappointed as I scrolled through and found nothing unique, none that came close to compare with yours. As I said, some put in a lot of work that transformed old and ugly pieces to something useful and pleasant. But in my estimation, you WON! Kudos kiddo.

This is seriously perfect for my bedroom just like I’ve been imagining doing for the last year but my health has been an issue and money lol. But you took this piece of dumped furniture and turned it into a literal masterpiece❣️❣️❣️

As for finances find a free piece and but some cheap paint and try to do a little bit when you can...
It will make your emotional health feel better and your mental health.... Creativity is a good way of keeping your mind of all the bad stuff...

So much about this worried me- the not sanding, not fixing broken bits but…. Wow. It’s beautiful. I do think the transfers took away from Morag. But overall beautiful.
I do furniture art I'm an artist, I'm not a restorer I don't want a factory finish in fact I do not want smooth at at all, I want lots and lots of rich texture. With Annie sloan paint no need to sand or prep..... so no need to worry...

I believe the skiff is the trash? It’s amazing what you and have done with this! You’ve taken something that was being thrown away, and turned it into a work of art! I would love to have these as night tables. They are a little tall, but I wonder if you cut off the very bottom part where all you had was the beautiful turned part of the leg if that would damage the work? Or if it would bring it down in size to where it would be more useful? I hate to even suggest that because they turned out so gorgeous! Just beautiful!
I guess interior design now trends taller cabinets and I'm selling them this hight so I find it on trend. I guess yes if you were doing it you could cut them, the legs I felt were way to pretty to cut ... They were snapped up.
Yes a skip in Scotland is what you might call a dumpster I think. A big metal container where large items go to the landfill sites.

The legs on that piece are beautiful. Nice of the person who put it in the skip to have put it in upside down. I didn't realize that separating the cupboard parts from that crazy piece in the middle would require so much work. Good thing Martyn showed us what they looked like after he separated them, just in case I should try and do something like this myself.😱
I watched you mix that first dark blue color, Lel. How did you know that was the color you wanted? I see that as the mystery/vision part of what you do. Did you already know you were going to paint the tops black?
I was holding my breath watching you do the stenciling. Just holding it with one hand, painting with the other, and at the same time knowing just how it was going to frame Morag. Me? I would have been measuring, taping, AND holding my breath for fear of messing it all up. It's your casual confidence that reveals the artist who knows exactly what she's doing. Blows me away. Every. Single. Time.😯😯😯⭐⭐⭐The staging is perfect BTW.

As for colour choice I generally plan in advance my colours so I know they will work.... I pick colours from decoupage or transfers or any interest even handles.... Just have a good look at your colours together before you start just to make sure they work.
Or buy a cheap colour wheel from Amazon this will help you pick complimentary colours etc.... X x x

May I ask whether you can use wood glue slightly watered down to attach the decoupage papers.
Hi Barbara, Wood Glue is a little stronger than PVA watered down or not. If the decoupage paper you are using is like ours and a little more robust than others then we are sure it would be fine. Cant speak to other lighter decoupage papers, sorry, thats not a great answer but we would suggested testing on a spare piece of wood or a board and seeing what happens if its not one of our papers. Janene I do get paint all over my clothes.... Then I just wear them for painting till they get so bad I move onto others.... All my clothes have paint on... Ha ha

Nice job as always! Love the color scheme. The furniture had cool legs--always love those curved/wavy shaped legs. Is there a specific name for that? Loved the video with the two of you. I loved how you address the upside down/bottom side of furniture. As a graphic designer I loved any packaging project because you address the top/bottom/sides/backside, etc. I do the same now with furniture, cabinets, etc. I love a pop of color inside the cabinets or inside drawers. I love how you think about all of that. I hope you win the challenge. Just love your very artsy, painterly way.

The legs are called barley twist legs but wavy curly works for me.
Yes packaging especially as I ship a lot to London often it has to go upside down and I like it to look good from that angle.... And I have often have customers meet us at out van with excitement and don't like when the bottom faces out I need to make sure there are no drips underneath. Even if they will not be seen.
I'm with you a pop of colour inside just adds an extra element especially if your selling...
