Are you using the focus tool at the 4mm cutting height to cut? I used that to cut 3mm and the cutting was not very good. Then I tried the 8mm engrave height and it cut 3mm alot better. I think the 4mm height is better for thick wood

btw the 24w is probably electrical output and not laser power. Did a check it is indeed Optical power: 20-24W . They advertise the 40w laser as 40w and if you read the details it says electrical output 40w, optical output 10w. Get lightburn as you can get a free trial for 30 days.
Some stuff you cut and engrave is toxic to so you need a good air extractor.
