    Hehe, the tip was absolutely refusing to be tinned.
    Anyway, I was blessed with this soldering station and was able to get some work done by filing the tips (after I had ruined them). I was able to solder with a filed tip for at least 30 minutes.
    1. File/grind/sand tip to expose what looks like a copper core.
    2. Attach tip.
    3. Wrap tip in solder.
    4. Turn on soldering station at 300 °C.
    5. Very gently tap shaft of iron on something to shake off excess solder.

    Heat the work (joint) first, THEN apply the solder! The sponge was designed to be wet with water and will expend to fit the cup.

    It would have been better if the soldering tip was prepared before use, would have been best if it was pretinned at the factory. A untinned soldering iron tip will quickly burn to the point of being unusable.

      As I know they don't sell them in LIDL so you can try to find in other shops that fits.

    Do not. I repeat do not use the solder supplied with these lidl soldering irons. They have little or no flux.

      Plus they are lead free and flux needs to be used. The tips will need to be tinned using flux and then solder.

      For anyone wondering what that doorknob wrote, here's ChatGPT's take on that:
      I've just taken my fourth one back. I'm disappointed because I really liked them. I find it shocking that they only work about 3 to 4 times, and then when you switch it on the 4th, 5th, 6th, or 7th time, it just goes buzz and stops working. I keep receipts and scan them on my phone, which is handy. The phone scan thing is useful. It's crazy because it works well for my friend who has only used it twice. I had to buy the charge-up one, which looks sleek but you can't use it while it's charging - what good is that? I just want something simple, and you can't change the temperature on this one, plus it has a light on it, which I don't want. We'll see how this one goes.

    It's a piece of crap

    • @ianallen2
      @ianallen2 Před 4 měsíci

      Not really. The solder has no flux core and flux needs to be used. Plus, he didnt tin the tip.
