    I think it's smart to have multiple projects on the go especially during the current gaming ecosystem so you can focus on what's working and change focus based on results etc. Like one project got cancelled but if it wasn't working out at least you had other things available. Plus it's clearly keeping you busy 😎.

    Can i give a suggestion? Start doing lesson videos, where you teach your tools, how you handle things like collision on LibGDX and so on

    • @mandisaw
      @mandisaw Před měsícem

      Not sure how portable lessons would be - libGDX is Java, and OP has his own game-library written on top of it. I like Java! But a lot of students/beginners nowadays seem to bounce off of languages like Java & C#.

      I'm not at the 'be a teacher' stage yet 😉 and as mandisaw said, my code and framework work methods are probably not interesting for a big audience anyway.

    After watching your trailer regulator city looks phenomeal a lot of game mechanics and it was funny seeing the guy eating potato chips.

    I actually bought your SpaceGrunt before I know your channel.
    And then I found watched your channel a year later.
    And months later I realized you are the dev of SpaceGrunt. **Pew**

    neat - suggestion for the turn based game - What I like about slay the spire is you get to see the end boss to for new players it is exciting to learn for mid player that tailer the guns/armo/amo based on the boss. experience player drop all the fluff and laze focuse to just what will kill the boss.
    Are the fish alive ?

      The fish are all still alive! We did lose a bunch of shrimps 😐 but they are somewhat weaker, got different type of shrimp just today to see how they hang in there.

    Eagerly awaiting the numbers / impact of the "wait & build momentum" strategy! I know the journey here was irregular, but would you still say short dev-cycles (6mo) are the way to go?
    That recent NewZoo PC/Console report, and Unity's 2023 Gaming report, both imply that indie dev times are ticking up, just like AAA ones. I get that the business need to make money quickly/regularly hasn't changed, but it seems like despite better tools, we're all taking longer to make bigger games with more marketing.
    Is that just what it takes now? Or maybe we're all over-scoping, AAA and indie alike 😅

    • @orangepixelgames
      @orangepixelgames  Před měsícem +1

      Yeah short cycles all the way from here on, or at least I aim for that. It worked well for GoP and I'm happy with how SG3 is going. Keep focus on the important gameplay features and stop myself when I start tinkering on details that aren't directly required for the end result.
      I think dev times are going up, because we all want to create bigger and better games. But if you look at the fluke breakout games, they are often fairly short turn around projects.

    • @mandisaw
      @mandisaw Před měsícem +1

      @@orangepixelgames Focus is key, for sure. Less sure on the "breakout=fast" part though. Just caught a GDC talk from the "Bear & Breakfast" folks out of Romania. They'd estimated/pitched 12-14mos, ended up 30mos, incl using their publisher's Switch porting team. I think I read Balatro also was longer in development than initially intended.
      [The Bear & Breakfast talk was on mixing-genres, pros/cons & traps, good follow-up to the earlier vid 👍]

    I am sure you keep a log of all those good ideas for a new game from a dev/supplier view. But don't forget about the perspective of the customer, what is this game all about, why should I care/play, how is this reboot different than before, and where will this experience take me emotionally?

    • @orangepixelgames
      @orangepixelgames  Před měsícem

      Haha yeah, but I personally prefer to make the games I want to make, and then we'll find out later if it takes people somewhere emotionally 😎
