The title sequence is still impressive after more than 65 years!
Its like the music starts and let's you feel your in for a good fun friendly time. Then Howard Hawks name appears on screen and the music changes completely. Given you a completely different feeling.
Brilliant film making.
One of the greatest science fictions of all time! No question!!
Classic opening sequence along with the 1982 version, this remains a fine example of sci-fi movie making.
A title sequence so nice they used it twice.
I can’t live without seeing this movie - from the opening credits - every few months. The claustrophobia still creeps me out. I once called in sick to watch it on local television at 1 pm when there was only a few Chanel’s to watch. 🤣
The Thing, one of the Greatest opening Sci-Fi theme soundtracks along with the Day the Earth Stood Still !!!
Ronnie Farnsworth
unearthly music matches
Possibly the best title sequence ever! Love it!
It was featured in John Carpenter’s Halloween (1978).
The Thing from Another World is brought to you today by the letters R, K, and O!
Mah Gawd!!! RKO out of nowhere!!!
I came here because of John Carpenter's Halloween (1978).
OK
The opening theme is TERRIFYING....
I kinda like the song starts cheerful and later turns into a dark bleak song
Halloween brought me here
These titles are from the 1957 reissue. The entire main title sequence was vertically squeezed to that they would be 1:85 safe. Original 1951 prints feature titles and background that fill the entire 1:33 screen. This was the only time RKO took this approach for reissue title sections. Normally, they would completely rephotograph the main titles with production credits remaining in the safe area.
Do they still exist?
Turner Classic Movies recently aired The Thing From Another World in HD widescreen.
Funny thing is that the logo from John Carpenter's The Thing matches the proportions of this stretched one better than the actual original, which likely means he grew up watching the reissue, and based the logo of his film on that because it was what felt right to him. Now that his version is so much more recognized than the original, that stretched version of the logo has become the most widely seen version of it.
This was and still is the BEST Movie/story ever made..... absolutely the best ......the 2 remakes are great also....and I am not alone that feels this way.....
My ghod, that music is SO good... Tiomkin should hove done more SF. I have the soundtrack now that it's on iTunes.
Somewhere I have that on vinyl. Tasty.
John Carpenter's Halloween brought me here
You and me both. :-)
John Carpenter also directed the 1982 remake version of "The Thing" for Universal Pictures.
Naminski also used the title sequence from the 51 movie as a tribute
My mom didn't believe me about this, i told her the 1982 of the Thing is a remake from this the 1950's
It will air on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at 1:15pm on Turner Classic Movies for all the fans of John Carpenter's Halloween (1978).
John Carpenter's Halloween, anyone?
Raymond Allen yupper and four years later he did The Thing
By the way, it will air on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at 1:15pm on Turner Classic Movies for all the fans of John Carpenter's Halloween (1978).
Yep
Everyone
Halloween 1978, when Tommy and Laurie are watching a movie, this came on.
I love The 82 Thing but for the time this was pretty good.
Brilliant title sequence...the RKO theme seemlessly blends into the film theme. Use of woodwinds to portray snow flurries and the darker tone right at the end...they really don't get much better than this...maybe some Max Steiner theme's for WB, maybe.
CLOSE THE DOOR!
I always thought this movie was fake because of its placement in the classic 1978 John Carpenter film "Halloween"... but after seeing the actual movie listed on Wikipedia AND a full rip of the movie on the Internet Archive, I now realize that I was wrong. It's real.
0:34 - [Tommy and Laurie are watching "The Thing from Another World" (1951) on TV.]
Tommy Doyle: What about the Jack-O-Lantern?
Laurie Strode: After the movie.
Tommy Doyle: What about the rest of my comic books?
Laurie Strode: After the Jack-O-Lantern.
Tommy Doyle: What about the Boogeyman?
Laurie Strode: There's no such thing.
Tommy : richie said he was coming after me tonight
Laurie : you believe everything richie tells you?
Tommy : no...
Laurie : listen tommy, Halloween night it’s when people play tricks on each other, it’s all make believe n i think Ritchie was just trying to scare you
Tommy : but i saw the boogeyman; i saw him outside
Laurie : there was nobody outside
Tommy : there was!
Laurie : what’d he look like?
Tommy : ...the boogeyman
Laurie: we’re not getting anywhere, look the boogeyman can only come out in Halloween night right?
Tommy : right...
Laurie : well im here tonight; & im not about to let anything happen to you
Tommy : promise?
Laurie : promise
Nice dialogue from John Carpenter's Halloween (1978). So that's how John Carpenter response to show movie clips from The Thing from Another World (1951) in Halloween (1978) and then he went on to direct his 1982 remake movie, The Thing (1982) from Universal Pictures.
Naminski i know what an honor!
You did watched John Carpenter's Halloween Marathon on AMC's FearFest in honor the theatrical release of Halloween H40: 40 Years Later, in theaters now from Universal Pictures and Miramax Films.
Sounds awesome slowed down
Awesome
Just can not get these movies to play
Great movie. The first Alien.
"An RKO Radio Picture"
Huh? Randy Orton has been around for THAT long?
I was watching this when someone called me. When they heard it they thought it was the American national guard breaking in.
Tiomkins best score
The bit that everybody fast-forwards past.
“what about the jack o lantern?”
“after the movie”
what about the rest of my comic books?”
“after the jack o launtern”
“what about the boogeyman?”
“there’s no such thing.”
Never saw the opening to this before. Had no idea that Carpenter used the same creepy style opening credits!
Wildside Press is publishing the rediscovered original document from which "Who Goes There?" was drawn from. The manuscript for this book - Frozen Hell - was discovered by author Alec Nevala-Lee, who recently wrote a biography of the Astounding magazine and it's editor, who was Campbell himself, the novella's author.
To celebrate Frozen Hell's release Wildside is also putting out a collection of newly penned Thing-related short stories, titled Short Things, and the collection has big names associated to it.
Plus, John Gregory Betancourt is writing a sequel to Frozen Hell. Interesting times we live in...
Halloween brought me here.
Holy Cats!
The Thing inspired Alien in a big way!
He probably inspired the Hulk too, afterall the Thing was big and green and real mean, and was unstoppable, and pretty much Indestructible!!!👍💪🤢
The Thing From Another World also inspired Halloween. Both Alien and Halloween are about being in a house stalked by a creature.
A RKO production? Randy Orton made this film?
Truly an amazing opening. Dated but so damn beautiful. They don't make them like this anymore. The PC police wouldn't allow a movie like this to be made in 2019. R.I.P. JAMES ARNESS, KENNETH TOBEY, MARGARET SHERIDAN, ROBERT RAY CORNTHWAITE.
are you kidding me? this film holds up way better than the vast majority of 50s movies
what the fuck are you talking about
Verarsche oder was???
Von wegen ganzer Film 👎👎👎
