    This song came out when I was three years old, and I loved it. My mom said I would always sing along, and at the end I would sigh and say, "Poor Brandy."
    51 years later, it's still one of my favorites. Thanks for listening to it!

    I've liked this song since I was a kid in the early 1970s. It's got an upbeat tempo but it's a sad song from Brandy's perspective because the man/men she loves or is attracted to are 'married' to the ocean: "My life, my lover, my lady is the sea." Great background harmonies and such a clear voice on the lead singer.

  • @Wolverines77

    Got to love that 70's soft rock harmonizing. It is chill and never fails to make me smile. If you are looking for another gorgeous harmonizing song that tells a great story, check out "Lodi" by CCR. I hit repeat 2 or 3 times when songs like these hit my speakers and I am cruising...

  • @flibber123

    I like story songs, and I think this is a good one. It's about unrequited love, and most people can relate to that. Plus it has a bit of irony to it. Everyone pays compliments like your eyes can steal a sailor from the sea, but the ONE sailor she wanted could not be stolen by her. Imagine the bittersweet feeling of hearing people telling you that when you know it's not true.

    This sound this song has, makes me think of Otis Redding "Sitting on the Dock of the Bay", and Lobo "Me and you and a Dog Named Boo", and America "A Horse With No Name". Rock that's softer than 10 ply toilet paper.

    Brandy, an all time favorite of mine hit number one back in 1972, it was a one hit wonder for the group. They did have 2 other singles, Golden 🌈 Rainbow and Jimmy Loves Mary - Anne which didn't do that well on the charts but I thought they weren't too bad. Elliot Laurie, lead singer of Looking Glass had a unique and great sounding voice.

    Looking Glass was a pop rock group from the early 70's that was part of the Jersey Shore sound their song "Brandy" was their #1 Hit the band produced two studio albums before splitting up Elliot Lurie left the band to launch a solo career. However, Lurie's solo efforts failed to chart, and he began writing for other artists.

    • @markallen2984
      @markallen2984 Před 2 lety +2

      After Lurie left, the core of the band was joined by a new guitarist (Richie Ranno) and a new singer Michael Lee Smith (the brother of Rex Smith) to form a hard rock band called STARZ.
      STARZ was very much in the KISS/Aerosmith school of '70s melodic Hard Rock. They had a minor hit with a song called "Cherry Baby". They produced four albums, three of which are really excellent. Probably their best album was called "Violation" and the hardest rocking album was called "Colliseum Rock".
      They really only achieve moderate success but have an enduring cult following. Nikki Sixx from Motley Crue and other bands like Poison & Quiet Riot regarded STARZ as a significant influence on them.

    Loved your reactions to this song! You were talking about memories, and as I was listening with you, (I hadn’t heard it for many years!) it brought back such happy memories from my teenage years. My best friend and I would spend a lot of our summer days walking and riding our bikes around our suburban neighborhood, or sitting on our front porches and playing cards or board games. Of course our conversations were usually about the boys we thought were “cute”at the time!😆 Wherever we were we would take a tiny transistor radio, and in the summer of ‘72, this song was played a lot on our local station. Thanks so much for bringing back memories of a very happy and innocent time of my life.💗💕🥰

    Hey guys, allow me to introduce you to Birtha - A nearly forgotten all-female band from the '70s. The notes this woman reaches are mind-blowing (close to "only dogs can hear it" territory). I've heard no other singer do anything close to this. One of those "must see before you die" performances. If you thought a magnificent vocalist such as Floor Jansen form Nightwish, for example, could hit high notes? Not even close to what this singer can do -- and this is NOT hyperbole. Cannot wait to see your reaction, the expressions on your face, when you watch this astounding live TV performance.
