- Perceived velocity is something that most people have heard of, but don't quite understand. If certain pitches can appear faster than they are, how can that be used across several different pitchers and also in pitch sequencing. Let's dive into it!

Thanks Javier!
Dan and Jake in one video? Guaranteed gold!
Credit to Dan! That article was 🔥🔥🔥
Hello im a 15 yo lefty pitcher I would love it if you could do a video on cutter pitch design. Mainly because my cutter has huge gyro spin. I’m trying to get it to move laterally. But every time I move my fingers to the center of the ball I get similar movement to my fastball. Thank you I appreciate the help
Hi Andy thanks for the comment! I made a video covering Sliders in the past where I mention a little bit about cutters - perhaps I'll make a full on cutter video sometime in the near future! Here's a link to the old video in the meantime: czcams.com/video/SZI4-BwfWSc/video.html
@@SimpleSabermetrics thank you so much
Can spin rate have any effect on perceived velocity?
In my opinion, Spin Rate has more of an effect on pitch trajectory than a pitch's velocity. Since the pitch is falling less than anticipated due to a higher spin, I can also see how a hitter may say that a pitch looks like it's coming in "hot" compared to a pitch with lower spin rate. Hopefully this helps! Thanks for the comment.
Definitely helps! I think I was caught up on how we hear a guy has a “heavy” ball and put that in as correlation between Spin Rate and Perceived Velocity. Love all the content, as it helps me become a more cerebral player. Thank you!
Of course! I really appreciate the comments my man. Keep it up!
