In an emergency situation when somebody is looking up something like this online it's very frustrating when people just for sitting there talking and having a great time what we need is somebody to get to the point. I don't mean to be rude and I'm not trying to be I'm just trying to make a point to you that time is of the essence when is someone is in a situation
Hi, @Lynda Lee Alverson, I'm sorry that it took us so long to get to the point in this video and you are so right that in an emergency you just want the information that will help you immediately. We did not create this video with an emergency situation in mind. Thanks for the reminder. We have tried to do faster, tighter videos and I would suggest that you might want to check out Teepa on TikTok for those types of videos (www.tiktok.com/@teepasnow?). You may also be able to find other helpful information at www.teepasnow.com.
@John Spence, so it sounds like you are wanting to know a bit more about how to help someone who can't seem to even get to the first position. Please connect with us so that we may discuss some other ways that might work for you (consult@teepasnow.com) or take a look at some of the videos Teepa has done recently on TikTok (www.tiktok.com/@teepasnow?) that might help you even more.
At 76 I have learned if I am on 4's it is easier for me to get up if I raise my fanny up first then use my legs elevate that and use my arms to push up..I live alone; I don't fall but I'll set on floor and get stuck
Hi, @Sp Fernandez, it sounds like you have figured out what works for you, good job! That is really what we were hoping would happen when others watched - figure out what works for you so that you can help yourself or explain it to others. Thanks for sharing!
Carolynn R, Thank You! If you are looking for more content please subscribe to my CZcams channel as well as to our free monthly Online Dementia Journal (teepasnow.com/online-dementia-journal/).
I love this (and ALL!!) of your videos. It helped me pick my Mom up off the floor yesterday. I'm trying to show this to my Stepdad to help him keep from hurting himself OR her. It is difficult for him to see, on my phone screen with the way it's split into three screens. Would it be possible to edit and re-create this with the demonstration filling up the entire screen? My folks are old school, no internet, therefore no large smart TV screen to view this on. I'm doing the best I can with them. Again, I appreciate all the valuable info you've provided!! Hugs!!
Hi, @John Phamlore, great question. In talking with some of our team members with more experience, we find that there is no research on whether gait or transfer belts work well with someone living with dementia. We do know that the use of these belts often cause abdominal, rib cage, or back injuries (for both people) so we would perfer to use the natural body mechanics of the person. If you would like to discuss this in more detail, please reach out to info@teepasnow.com or 1-877-877-1671.
@bubblegumswitch, good observation. Thanks for commenting on our video. Hi Joe! Teepa is still here and busy as ever. She does not usually participate in the Live @ 5 sessions as these are run by the team. But you will see her in plenty of our other videos and you can find her live on Facebook, every morning at 8am Eastern.
My father fell in the middle of a restaurant and broke his hip. He lay on the floor for almost an hour waiting for the ambulance. I cannot get up off the floor myself and I would feel great knowing I had one of these in my house. Every paramedic or ambulance should have one of these.
Wow, @Julie Scheibe, it sounds like it was a difficult sitation for you and your husband. We hope that things are better now. Hi, @B. Water, thanks for the suggestion. We will take it under consideration. If you'd like to see more, shorter videos you may want to check out Teepa on TikTok (www.tiktok.com/@teepasnow?) or maybe you want to listen to some podcast (teepasnow.com/services/talk-show/).
Hi, @Carolynn R. Shelly from Teepa's team. I noticed your request for another video and I wanted to let you know that we did actually do one where we discussed how to get yourself off the floor. Here's the link: czcams.com/video/TCrB_keoyuY/video.html If you like videos like this, you may also want to check out our How to Video Play list too (czcams.com/play/PLVl8vTLjje8GSqpIGA1edB_t4PMdVUlqg.html)
this is of no help if the person isn't strong enough to lift the weight. something with an inflatable yoga ball under and a handpump could work. chairs are too tall
Hi, @Sherry Leggett, Shelly here (a member of Teepa's team). I agree that a firm chair may be a good tool to have access to when a fall occurs and we are talking about a lot of steps in this video, but as a person with many knee/leg issues after watching and trying these steps out I figured out some other ways to adjust the steps to fit my situation. If you've ever like to talk about how you might want/need to do things differently, please reach out to us 1-877-877-1671 or consult@teepasnow.com

As much as I appreciate this info, my main problem is an elderly person who can't get her self up to the chair position.

Hey Sheryl, great suggestion, we will see what we can do to make this more accessible and visible! Thanks for letting us know it was helpful!
I have to wonder if a gait or transfer belt would be helpful.

When the person who has fallen has already had a knee replacement and does not have upper body strength to lift the torso up.

Hi, @Sherry Leggett, I'm sorry to hear that your father had such an episode. That shouldn't have happened. But thanks for sharing your story.
What can one do if the person's knees can't be used due to excessive knee pain?
This is definitely a different issue. Please connect with us via the website and we can chat with you about ways to modify.
I had to call the fire department to get my husband off the floor. He just wasn’t strong enough any more to help.

Now I need a video on: "How To Help Yourself Get Up From the Floor"

Hi, @markifi, thanks for your comments. It may take some other things to help for sure.
All those steps are fine but if you don’t happen to have a firm chair beside you the plan falls apart. No pun intended.
