I was invited to visit Abdal Hakim Murad at Cambridge for the first time in 2009. When I was sat in his office he mentioned that he had just finished reading "From Utah to Eternity" and gave me the book as a gift. Shaykh Murad was unaware at this point that I had been raised as a Mormon, so I regarded the gift as a providential 'sign'. I had lots of 'coincidences', if that's what they were, like that before I converted to Islam. I had rejected Mormonism by the age of about 18 and then converted to Catholicism but I found the complex and mysterious doctrines of the Church problematic and difficult to assimilate.

So grateful for these annual reading lists. I studied literature and still spend a lot of time reading journals, etc., but have never come across some of the books mentioned in these lists. Saracen Chivalry (from a past list) for instance, is a gem that I never would have come across if it wasn’t for the Shaykh sharing these lists with us. I’ve not encountered any of the books from this list. Thank you.

Heiratic and Demotic scripts of Ancient Egyptian is very much readable, but languages and it was just not common enough for the LDS movement to take of at its time.
Adventure novels, Christian projections of Native American origins, adventure novels, and tidbits from scholars about Islam and other religion types certainly mixed into the spiritual work of Joseph Smith, but I know that he could have had in depth psychological experiences and encounters with jinn.
We all need to go beyond church politics and consider if a faith has truth and good for the world through us.

Abu Darda reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
Verily, the angels lower their wings for the seeker of knowledge. The inhabitants of the heavens and earth, even the fish in the depths of the water, seek forgiveness for the scholar. The virtue of the scholar over the worshiper is like the superiority of the moon over the stars. The scholars are the inheritors of the Prophets. They do not leave behind gold or silver coins, but rather they leave behind knowledge. Whoever has taken hold of it has been given an abundant share.

You see the reality is covered, Jewish people entered Britain from Israel which is the birth place of Christianity. And Judaism therefore, Britain was a Saxon country with no religion, as Saxons were pagans they had no believe in religion or ONLY GOD.
