Massive 2-Week Grocery Haul for Family of 12

  • Welcome to this massive 2-week grocery haul for my family of 12! This shop also includes items for my mothers birthday party that I hosted a couple of days later. Recently, we increased our shopping budget to reflect the reality of grocery price hikes and growing children. I've found that the increase has made shopping a lot easier, and the food is lasting very well for the two weeks without having to purchase much else (we still go back for fresh milk and bananas, for sure!). My grocery budget works out to around $500 per week, including all food, household and toiletry (inc. baby) supplies. For Melbourne, Australia, I think I'm doing pretty good at keeping to such a budget while feeding 12 people hearty and nutritious homecooked (for the most part) meals. We do have take-away once every week or two - it's a break for me (and, frankly, something I enjoy just as much as the kids!).
    The total for this grocery haul was $1,077, including extra items for my mothers birthday (other family members contributed food to the party as well). I also purchased some drink to contribute to the party, for an additional $15 (not shown in the video).
    My meal plan for the 2 weeks is:
    Ricotta and Spinach Agnolotti with homemade tomato sauce
    Spaghetti Bolognese X 2 nights
    Lamb and vegetable stew on rice
    Chicken and vegetable stew/soup with bread
    Chicken and vegetable stir-fry on rice
    BBQ pulled pork with sides (fried rice, baked red onion, peas)
    Fish with salad
    Egg, bacon and vegetable bake with salad/veg side
    Meat pies, potato gems and peas
    Chicken, capsicum, onion and corn burritos with lettuce and avocado
    Birthday party food
    Join me as I feed my tribe of 12 nutritious and delicious meals, share budgeting tips and large family logistics!

    Hi Liana!!...what a wonderful haul. I love the different varieties of foods and all of the ideas that came flooding in my mind when I go grocery shopping. Ive made ravioli bake, almost like your pasta bake but just using ravioli, and it’s a good way to hide added vegetables in there. All of these ingredients would make a amazing charcuterie board/table. Your haul has made me happy.👍💜🥰

    Never apologize for the noise kids make, even the one time I mentioned it, it was just a passing comment, but not to complain. I cannot see how, short of filming in a separate house, you can avoid noise with a large family. Anyone who wants to watch your videos just needs to sit back and enjoy the show.

    Would you please mind explaining what tea time is and what you and your children do during that time? my daughter asked me but she forgot lol

    • @feedatribe
      @feedatribe  Před 3 lety

      Sure! Well, when I refer to ‘morning tea’ or ‘afternoon tea’, I simply mean the snack between breakfast and lunch, or between lunch and dinner. So if it’s just us, it’s usually a matter of the kids having a piece of fruit or some yoghurt. If I invite someone over for afternoon tea though, then I will provide some sweet and savoury foods (usually I’ll bake a cake to put a little effort in!), and we’d set the table with these things, to have with our coffee or tea. I grew up calling dinner ‘tea’, and so did most people my age or older...many families here in Australia still call dinner ‘tea’, it’s just many of us have dropped the British word for the American word, calling it dinner. I hope I didn’t just confuse things 😆 Xx

      I do have a couple of meals to share, which I’ll be filming this week. The issue there was that I only share recipes that I’ve ‘invented’, and I have been less creative the last couple of months, with Christmas/holidays/start of school, I just did a lot of easy things 😆 I also get really bad at filming during that Summer holiday season....but I’m really happy to get started with the recipes again! Not all cheese is vegetarian cos it depends wat cheese cultures are in the cheese. Not cool that u hot ripped off wiv the nectarines. I love spinach and rocket. I love kale chips. I onli buy conference pears. Those orange drinks reminds me of britix juices we have in the U.K. im not always sure of wat we have wen shopping. I onli buy raw nuts. We get tomoto paste in tubes. Can I ask why you homeschool? Not judging just interested/curious as it is not that common here in Australia :)

    • @feedatribe
      @feedatribe  Před 3 lety +1

      I suppose an array of reasons that just tipped the scales in favour for us. I’ve homeschooled in the past, when I wasn’t happy with a particular school. Then we tried another school, but had been wanting to homeschool again for a while. However, it never seemed like the ‘right time’ to pull them out of school...someone was always starting school/year 7, etc. Then when we were in lockdown, I couldn’t stand the remote learning. So it was an opportunity to take the plunge again. The reasons vary per child...but all-up, we like the fact that we can focus directly on each child and exactly where they are at. That just cannot be achieved in the school institution. Some kids/families thrive in the school environment (and my husband is a school teacher, so we don’t have anything against school....we follow the general Vic curriculum but in our own way), but we were mostly feeling frustration. Added to that, I’m really into the idea of family as an autonomous unit, and homeschool supports that philosophy. I also home birth (again, I’m a midwife, but I’m just not into the institutionalisation of a normal life event, or the false authority that takes away from what it’s all about). Homeschooling has become a lot more popular since lockdown and remote learning, as parents became aware of issues firsthand. My eldest son has just started VCE, and was perfectly happy in the school environment, so he still attends school. 🙂 Xx
