    These are common symptoms for liquid damaged MacBook Pros. This one was very mild, the damage might've happened a long time ago and it's only now failed.

    Great videos, really enjoy watching and I learn a lot. You did talk about static discharge, what precautions should we take if we are in a dry environment? Assuming we do't have a lot of gear like anti-static mats and writs straps etc, what can one touch safely and where do we have to be really careful? (For example I assume touching the board is OK, but is it OK to touch the traces? Is it OK to touch the case of an IC as long as one doesn't touch the contacts?). Thanks.

      Work in the kitchen, with an open pan of water boiling & limited ventilation (start this going ahead of time) it'll raise the humidity to levels where static stops being a problem.
      ^^ This one will make conditions as static safe as the ones our host works in if you let the room get a little steamy & keep it humid. If your significant other objects, you have the perfect excuse to buy anti-static gear, which isn't expensive.
      Failing that, don't work when standing on synthetic flooring (nylon carpet etc.), avoid wearing clothing that isn't at least 40% natural fibres, avoid shoes with synthetic soles (take them off if in doubt), touch a grounded computer case or other grounded surface frequently.
      Component handling:
      Bare memory modules, handle by ends between thumb & finger & press only on top edge when fitting, If fitted with heat spreaders handle by those.
      CPUs: Never touch the underside or pins unless grounded.
      Motherboards: Handle by edges & or plastic power headers, heatsinks etc. Use the provided anti-static bag as a mat.
      Graphics cards: Avoid touching the connectors & exposed parts of the board (other than edges), again the bag can substitute for a mat.
      Other "dodges" that help:
      Work when still slightly damp from a shower.
      Work as much as possible inside the case, ground that if possible.
      *Buy yourself a wrist strap* as a minimum, they're dirt cheap, literally a similar price to a spare USB or SATA cable! They'll keep you at the same potential as the case you clip them to.

    Nice work! How would you know whether a chip on the logic board needs replacing rather than just cleaning?

    Great vid as always Graham and I did love your short tutorial series. Bit cheeky I guess but could I ask a quick bit of advice? I have a hd that has gone RAW, is there a free utility you know of that could help me recover a few files from it? Cheers bud.

      Adamant IT thanks Graham, I'll give it a shot over the weekend. It was a primary partition in my tower. I think it's just given up on life as it's previously played up with bad sectors etc. Thanks so much for your help matey

      It was on 7 Ultimate. To be honest, I think it's been on the way out for a while so I had backed up not long back. It's only a couple of work folders and bits I need from the drive. It's on a dual boot system with an old Xp os (which I've never ever had one problem with & still runs really fast) so I'll try and recover the bits I need from the knackered drive from there. Then it's the bin for that hd!

    I love your videos! But I wonder if there's a way to film them so we can get a closer view of the board? Once you're pointing things out at the component level, it's a bit far away to see detail. Maybe time for a microscope cam?

    Hello Adamant IT, after watching MANY louis rossmann and paul daniels videos I still am unable to figure my issue out. I have just come across your far more simple videos which are extremely clear and precise MANY THANKS!!! you have just got 1 more subscriber. however my question "which I hope you can help" is I have a MacBook air which under a microscope looks very clean and I can not see any corrosion other than a very small amount around the tag connection which I just removed the whole connection itself, it powers on and works fine from both charger and a charged battery but it will not turn orange to actually charge the battery it just sais not charging , I have tried both a working charger and working battery but just can not get it to charge.
    I have 8.4v on PPBUS_G3H and have checked the two current sensing resistors for both adapter and battery (R7021,R7022,R7051 and R7051) which all seem ok. PLEASE can you point me in the right direction what I should check next before I order and try replacing the U7000 (ISL6259) which sound like a common problem? all the videos I have seen which seem close have severe corrosion mine does not and looks almost new :):)

    • @Adamant_IT
      @Adamant_IT  Před 3 lety +1

      I don't have a lot of experience on charging issues, but based on my knowledge, I agree with the 'replace U7000' mantra. It seems to be a real common one for failure.

    Has Apple gone after you for fixing their stuff ? Or is that just an American thing like Rossmann has to endure ?

    • @Adamant_IT
      @Adamant_IT  Před 4 lety +1

      Touch-wood, nothing yet. I think the devices I'm working on in these videos are too old to be relevant. When Rossman fought Apple, the products were still 'current'.
      But this is why I tell people that I won't give them schematics and accept the flak I get for that - because like hell am I daring Apple to C&D me anymore that the videos already do.
