Its for rehearsing and creating in a, lets say big and not sound optimized space. I felt between these because JBL is a often used brand in Berlin, as well as there is some christmas discount on the charge 4. So in price comparison from 99 € for the flip 5 to 124€ its a small difference. Also loudness and more base is important :) although I am gonna try both in the shop first :)
i've got flip5 today for about $75 and it's a GG version. it's overall very good but it sounds quite strange with only one driver inside after I got used to my old 'stereo' Xiaomi bt speaker. Still great for that size and price. I think i'm keeping it. Thank you for your reviews man, you sound very professional!!!
I think imma go with flip 5 it sounds better it’s more clearer and that’s due to the newer driver and technology they have used than the charge 4 but obviously if u want a speaker that’s loud and that can charge a device u might as well go with the charge 4 cuz it has a bigger woofer (20 watt compared to 30w) 😅 also the flip 5 is more value for money I don’t know how other’s feel about this comparison but this is my opinion . I just updated the firmware on both of my flip4s and it seems to carry the bass at a higher volume and to my ear recessed the highs a bit. Possibly to mimic the flip5.

I have 2 questions: 1) were you placing both speakers directly to the microphone while recording? Because when they both lie on the surface the charge 4 faces parallel to the floor and the flip 5 like 45 degrees to the floor. The sound changes significantly when you listen to the speaker close directly or not. 2) Were both speakers the TL versions? Thanks in advance for answering.
Hi Alan! Just wanted to let you know that shockingly there is a new version of the Flip 5. It is a TT variant. Picked it up today. It doesn't seem to sound as good as my TL though.

I've been randomly binging on some of these older reviews and got an idea for a video if you ever find time for it Alan - Current 50 pound champions like Anker Boost or Bogasing M4 even, against some of the old crop that went for 160pounds back in the day like Charge 3 and Charge 4. Seeing how close the mono Flip 5 gets to Charge 4, makes me think todays 50 pounders might just beat these old fellas ;) David vs Goliath type deal :P

Not all people have the luxury of blasting their music way up high without disturbing their neighbors/household members. Thus, they resort to using headphones. That, plus the fact that headphones/IEMs are generally cheaper and more portable make it a more popular choice for many music lovers. It may not be your exact interest but if you want your channel to grow more, I suggest you start reviewing items that cater to what more people want. Maybe you should start reviewing mobile phones too. That's the most popular category of gadget to date I think. Or just review popular/trendy gadgets in general. Your channel's name is "Alan Ross Reviews" so that means you shouldn't only limit yourself to reviewing speakers. You're definitely one of the better reviewers than some of the more mainstream gadget reviewers out there. The level of detail, accuracy, comprehensiveness, and professionalism are all spot on. The camera lighting and video effects are maybe not the best, but that's not really a deal breaker at least in my opinion. So yeah, keep up the good work sir. I wish more people would discover your channel down the road. It's truly a hidden gem.

thanks for the faith but its not about subscribers, im just doing something i enjoy, time permitting. My setup wont work for headphones to be honest, so its not something im looking to do. Ive been doing a lot of speakers because of the interest but i do other things too, like mattresses :)

I already own a Charge 4 and looking for an upgrade! Do you suggest that i replace my Charge 4 with xtreme 2? Or purchasing another Charge 4 and going for a stereo speakers?
personally i would go xtreme 2. charge 4s in stereo doesnt do anything magical other than become a bit too boomy. you also have to deal with the nightmare of the jbl app.
In my opinion. Two charge 4s are better than an xtreme 2. But if u bought an xtreme 2, u can also use that connect+ and make more sound than two charge 4s. But comparing the two, charge is almost like the xtreme but the xtreme has a lot more bass than the charge 4
Could someone link me the info on the colors of the speakers changing the quality? I happen to have a teal one but I was thinking about buying a different color for use around my hot tub. I also notice the comment below me states that the teal ones are not 100% waterproof... What gives with that?
Check out Alan Ross’s video on the flip5 versions, it dosent go by color, goes by first 2 letters is S/N, TL is best sounding, not very waterproof, dosen’t float CS sounds the worst, but fully waterproof, and floats. GG is waterproof, and floats for 2 seconds or so b4 slowly sinking, and is in the middle in terms of sound. I would say TL for use at home, GG for general use, and CS if you’re taking it to the lake or something
Could you please help me decide between flip 4, flip 5, or charge 4? I hate the fact the two latest ones are mono, but at least the bass seems more prominent. I will mainly be using it for music while taking a shower, maybe just the odd occasion for outdoors. The bathroom is literally less than 4 sq.m, so I'm assuming the flip 4 will be adequate at half volume, but will the bass be satisfying enough? Currently on my side of the planet it goes for 69€, the flip 5 at 87€ and the charge 4 for about 115€. My ideal choice would be charge 3 due to the combination of stereo feature and great lows, but it's almost obsolete and worth more than the charge 4!! Cheers Alan!!
Thanks! Doesn't necessarily have to be jbl. I was also considering ue boom / sony xb31 (same price - 85€) or the LG pk3 meridian tech one (67€). However, at the end of the day stereo may not be that important when comparing small speakers. The flip 5 could still be a worthwhile option, especially if I grab another one later on to pair...
I do the same test gg charge 4 and Flip 5 charge 4 Has clener basse more loudnes Flip 5 mufled bass but its sound better.. and Flip has cleaner height ...so out charge 4 indoor Flip 5
ha! on a flip 5 charge 4 vid 😜 they have a different sound, xtreme 2 is more balanced and thicker sounding but xtreme 1 has more punch vs rumble as in xtreme 2, so its really taste.
Hay Alan did u know that the flip 5 has a low frequency mode Aswell if u press the Bluetooth button and the minus but for 10 seconds and then watch the ring light up and go off it changes the sounds and the bass is better in the high end of the flip 5 and the subs at the side bounce more try it out with a bass boosted track
Ofcourse Charge 4 is significantly better but should have been louder and less compressed...On the other hand, Flip 5 is good enough for the size but should have been cheaper...
i was going to get the charge 4 because it was on sale but by the time i saved up enough money it was back to full price so i just got a flip 5 instead

Thanks for the video. I think the flip 5 isn’t worth the money, specially here in Europe which costs about 120€. Its lacks highs. I definitely will go for the Earfun uboom. If you can, get two, they have a slight deeper bass than the flip 5, and costs 60€.
The mono just kills it for me, so many songs have the left and right channels cancel some sounds out and music just doesn’t sound as good as it should.

Putu Eksat Swardinata Kusuma if you are gonna use it at home get the studio but if you are traveling or going out frequently get the xtreme but the studio it’s louder and clearer 😃👍
There is a physical reason why Flip 5 loses to Charge 4 when it comes to bass as the volume goes up. Flip 5 is lighter than Charge 4- because of this, as the volume increases, the vibration of the casing of the Flip 5 tend to weaken the bass of the sound and make it sound more like in an empty shell hence adding a bit of brightness to the mids and highs. If the casing of Flip 5 is like that of Bose Soundlink Mini II- hard, thick, solid aluminum, the sound would be more crisp, bright, and lively- you will hear each of the instrument clearer.
No AUX-P2 on the Flip 5 is a big let down. Like the sound signature of the Charge 4 but it's too boxy for me. Even the Flip 4 sounds more balanced than the Charge 4.
@@alanrossreviews I highly advise u to listen to both models and hear which one is better. I experienced them both and i think the gg is better (build quality and overall sound). Gg distorts less than tl. But i do agree that the tl flip 5 is the best of them sound wise.
You should buy the charge 4 as if the bass is more louder and it has 10 wats higher sound power than the flip 5 i myself got the flip 5 but thats because of easy to take anywhere its nice and compact but if that doesnt bother you you should buy the charge 4

I like charge 4 TL but it is not fully waterproof, I got charge 4 GG and I love it!!

I just got rid of my xb30, superceded by motion plus and like xb40 sound changes too much depending on volume.

charge 4 is a bigger sound, unless you actually need a small speaker get the charge 4. i believe tl is best for both.

I would have said charge 3 too. Does it have to be jbl? If you aren't playing loud the tribit Maxsound would probably suit you.

ha! on a flip 5 charge 4 vid 😜 they have a different sound, xtreme 2 is more balanced and thicker sounding but xtreme 1 has more punch vs rumble as in xtreme 2, so its really taste.

Hay Alan did u know that the flip 5 has a low frequency mode Aswell if u press the Bluetooth button and the minus but for 10 seconds and then watch the ring light up and go off it changes the sounds and the bass is better in the high end of the flip 5 and the subs at the side bounce more try it out with a bass boosted track
This is not a low frequency mode, this is a service mode that can kill your drivers.
I don't know why but everytime I look at the charge 4, I can picture the mono driver on one side that looks like a tv speaker. :D

Thanks for the video. I think the flip 5 isn’t worth the money, specially here in Europe which costs about 120€. Its lacks highs. I definitely will go for the Earfun uboom. If you can, get two, they have a slight deeper bass than the flip 5, and costs 60€.
My flip 5 literally sounds like the only frequencies are upper bass, and vocals only
that seems to the jbl tuning now. most people only seem concerned with the bass.
The mono just kills it for me, so many songs have the left and right channels cancel some sounds out and music just doesn’t sound as good as it should.
somebody needs to tell jbl!

The reason I got the charge 4 since the flip 5 is $119 and the charge 4 is $130 with more features and a bigger battery
Flip 5 is $90 on Amazon. But if you have the extra money then charge 4 could still be better value to you
get onyx studio 4 instead or Xtreme 1
Putu Eksat Swardinata Kusuma if you are gonna use it at home get the studio but if you are traveling or going out frequently get the xtreme but the studio it’s louder and clearer 😃👍

There is a physical reason why Flip 5 loses to Charge 4 when it comes to bass as the volume goes up. Flip 5 is lighter than Charge 4- because of this, as the volume increases, the vibration of the casing of the Flip 5 tend to weaken the bass of the sound and make it sound more like in an empty shell hence adding a bit of brightness to the mids and highs. If the casing of Flip 5 is like that of Bose Soundlink Mini II- hard, thick, solid aluminum, the sound would be more crisp, bright, and lively- you will hear each of the instrument clearer.
Except it is what it is. If the drivers had no covering at all it would also be clearer but you can only judge it on its package.

No AUX-P2 on the Flip 5 is a big let down. Like the sound signature of the Charge 4 but it's too boxy for me. Even the Flip 4 sounds more balanced than the Charge 4.

@@alanrossreviews I highly advise u to listen to both models and hear which one is better. I experienced them both and i think the gg is better (build quality and overall sound). Gg distorts less than tl. But i do agree that the tl flip 5 is the best of them sound wise.

You should buy the charge 4 as if the bass is more louder and it has 10 wats higher sound power than the flip 5 i myself got the flip 5 but thats because of easy to take anywhere its nice and compact but if that doesnt bother you you should buy the charge 4
right, make the choice on size not sound sound.
What's also important to note is that Charge 4 has an obvious improvement in soundstage unlike the single mono driver in Flip 5.
