Do you think the electric G has the specs to compete with other off-roaders? Let us know in the comments!
No one cares about off road
No, because it doesn't have any locking diffs.
@@migueljardim8177 you don't need locking diffs with independant 4-motors.
No, because the range is too low. When you put off-road tires on it the range is going to plummet and its already starting off on the low side. Range anxiety while on a trail? No thank you. This is fine for the average G buyer that might need to traverse their unmaintained road from their property line gate to their main house but not for off-roaders.
@Stealther One motor does not have enough torque to shift the entire weight of the car on its own. We've seen this with the Rivian already in rock crawling situations. With an engine with locking differentials the entirety of the torque from the engine is transferred to a single wheel when locked up. If the engine produces 500nm of torque, then that same 500nm of torque is sent to the one wheel with traction. With 4 motors having a combined 1000nm of torque (for arguments sake), one wheel will only be getting 250nm of torque, which is not as useful. A dual motor system with front and real locking diffs would arguably be better for rock crawling than quad motors since you are doubling the torque of one motor at least.
Personally, in light of how EQ is doing I the US, naming it something that doesn’t really prioritize the “EQ” part of the model name was a smart move.
240 miles per charge??? Come on Mercedes!! You should be leading ...500 miles plus!!
Its a joke. 200k car less miles then model 3 tesla
It's hard to get much efficiency out of a brick
Nobody needs 500miles of range. Nobody regularly drives 500 miles and definitely nobody does it without stopping at all. WLTP range for the G580 is 294miles. Which is low for the price, but this car has 4 gearboxes and 4 motors and it weighs 3.1T. The new Macan has a WLTP range of 367miles.
Yea cause the Escalade IQ range is 450 and Hummer is 315. You would thing the range would be able to compete with the IQ or the Hummer with that price tag…
@@cookiefrito Great point cookie! That Mercedes Benz range is way too low!!! in fact they're entire electric range is way too low!!!
Again Mercedes should be the market leader!!! 500 miles plus and people wonder why no one is buying their cars????
No one takes a G wagon off-road. The curb at Sephora is as close at it gets.
It will be a huge hit in California.
Vehicle looks great. Range is laughable. I can't believe MB thought they could get away with using a 116kW battery in a vehicle with the aerodynamics of a brick and that kind of mass
For what will likely be a base model, doesn’t seem so bad to me. Undoubtedly like they said in the video, there will be a more expensive AMG model that should have more range and performance.
@@ALMX5DPamg ceo had said that there’s a good chance that they don’t electrify the g for their models

A legend ruined...
How does the rear solid axle work with two motors driving their respective individual wheels? Would love to see the unit itself just to wrap my head around what is going on.
I think we'll have to wait until Munro Live get their hands on it
@@drive-channel1834 The Autotopian just posted information and some pictures showing it's a De Dion type axle setup.
@@drive-channel1834 YT doesn’t like me posting the name of the outfit but another journalist saw underneath and showed it’s a De Dion type axle setup. Pretty clever implementation.
What’s under the hood?
no frunk unfortunately
Poor packaging
Exterior looks great (the charging cable in the extra tire case shows a sense of humor), interior strays too much from what “G” has been without looking better, at first glance.
EQG was actually a good name, that was a bonehead move scrapping that. 🤦♂ Probably a good idea making this electric since the gas mileage is nonexistent on the regular one.
When you can drive from Sydney to the Gold Coast on one charge im in until then I'm keeping my GLE diesel where I can do that easily on one tank xx
I was wondering why the spare tire carrier was square
That’s a very low range for the size of the battery
It's a heavy brick.
@@Themayseffect It's not so much about the weight but about aerodynamics and the size of the tires
@@bullshitbingo2259 yes... It's heavy... And it's a brick (not an aerodynamic shape) both factors contribute to shit range. And the tire size is fairly mild if you consider the range of other off road capable EVs like the Rivian.
No, they quoted it wrong, it's 450 miles, not 250 miles
@@drive-channel1834nope 250 miles roughly or 400 km
This is what I wish Land Rover would do. 4-Motor EV, but 250-260 mile range is a no-go for me because that translates to 190-200 real world range and even less in cold weather. This doesn't even take into consideration all-terrain tires and the hit on range those will make.
can the camera person show more of the vehicle and the person speaking
No.
The trend now, especially if you read comments, is people to remark on the presenter more than the product. It’s a weird physiological thing.
HOW MUCH?
Starting at $180,000
Can't wait to see it roaming the streets in class
From a packaging standpoint, this is a pathetic attempt. I'm sure there could have been extra cargo space at the front if they'd packaged things properly. and the full size spare wheel? For sure that charging cable could fit inside the inside of the spare wheel inside the spare wheel cover, that charging cable compartment in place of the sparewheel is unnecessary 🙄
Best looking always
This will live on the boulevards and Rodeo Drive - it's never going off road except maybe up a curb. Range is terrible but not surprising given the shape, no full-size spare as standard because MB knows these do not go off-road, and yet weighed down by 4 motors, complex suspension, low range gearing, and underbody armor. Designed to be seen, not driven.
Love it still proper G-Wagon
now i know this car for alien not human
The G wagon nobody asked for.
I want to hear that V8 sing!
Why do you discriminate Chinese vehicles, when they are the best?
I think Mercedes went wrong withe the G580 EQ. Not efficient, not 800V and using 4 mtors has non sense at all. Too much raw materials for nothing, and 3000 kg ?
BTW I am a pro EV, but this is nonsense :(
Fire! Hit me up bruh.

This ruins the whole concept of owning a G wagon.
Took the ugliest brick that costs and mint and had a great motor and completely the transition into a full turd
I just saw the China debut video, and MB claims that it will have 580 km range, why the difference in range for the US model of 460km?? czcams.com/video/WS0AIvB-FCs/video.html. 3.46min into the video
man Merc battery tech is down generations the marketing department also don't help with all the confusing naming schemes.
How to ruin an icon...
rip
I wished they would have called it the “EQG.” The “G580 with EQ Technology” is one of the stupidest names ever given to a car.
Never seen a gay guy review a truck, lol, his boyfriend must be so proud
Well he’s in America are you in Uganda where it is illegal?
G class electric is like the biggest strongman who is a homosexual.
Yeah, come on, shoot me.
You mean like Magic Johnson’s son? That dude scares me
No thanks
From the concept car there is no innovation. Wildly low range. And a stupid name. EQG was awesome. Yet another failed Mercedes EV
Cringe af
So much money for something so ugly.
With chinese batteries ? no thanks ! 😊
Chinese are great with batteries. What’s the problem?
Where else you gonna get your batteries these days? Typical stereotype and haters, which will very likely lead to racism.
Samsung SDI, LG Energy, SK Innovation, Panasonic, C&D Tech, Clarios, East Penn Manufacturing, Enersys, GS Yuasa, Bosch,
@@yuxiangliang5712lol, it’s not racism to not want to buy batteries from a foreign adversary
@@aussie2uGA well, eventually, we will see
The eqs is better in every way
So it's 6600lbs "car"
That go's 240 miles
Of range with chinese
battery ?
What can go wrong ?
Over price with no value
I dont want an Eeee Veeee...
This world is going wrong. Electric g- wagon?!? Thanks. NO.
Someone’s gonna get left behind 👋
@@Tommmmmmmmmmmm Jea ... Sooner or later batteries on 4 wheels will be left behind ... EV agenda / propaganda is falling apart. Fast. Very fast.
Literally not a single person on earth takes these off roading....
Yes they do.
False

Cool the $200K wagon has the same tech as my $29K bolt euv
It's just 150k. And I doubt your Bolt EUV has quad motors with 570+ hp, 1100NM of torque, which can clear up to 100% slopes and drive through 33 inches of water. What a nonsense comparison.
@bullshitbingo2259 quad motors isn't higher tech, it's just more quantity of more expensive parts....euv is more efficient, wireless everything, years ago
@@bullshitbingo2259 no one drives g wagons up slopes or water lol
@@tsmatthx2 That is the whole appeal of the vehicle, that you could if you want to. It is build for tough outdoor environments while still accelerating quickly and also feeling like a Mercedes-Benz. If you want to drive your Bolt go ahead. Totally different vehicles.
@bullshitbingo2259 yea much better lol I could buy 6 haha
Oh, little late to the EV market is falling on his ass. I hope Mercedes loses a shit load on this one. What an absolute joke.
