  • The much-anticipated electric Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen has finally arrived, and despite its clunky name - G 580 with EQ Technology doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue - it promises an entirely new take on Benz’s iconic boxy SUV. In this first look video, Edmunds’ Clint Simone gives you an overview of the all-new 2025 Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ Technology.

      @@migueljardim8177 you don't need locking diffs with independant 4-motors.

    • @Stealther
      @Stealther Před měsícem

      No, because the range is too low. When you put off-road tires on it the range is going to plummet and its already starting off on the low side. Range anxiety while on a trail? No thank you. This is fine for the average G buyer that might need to traverse their unmaintained road from their property line gate to their main house but not for off-roaders.

    • @migueljardim8177
      @migueljardim8177 Před měsícem +1

      @Stealther One motor does not have enough torque to shift the entire weight of the car on its own. We've seen this with the Rivian already in rock crawling situations. With an engine with locking differentials the entirety of the torque from the engine is transferred to a single wheel when locked up. If the engine produces 500nm of torque, then that same 500nm of torque is sent to the one wheel with traction. With 4 motors having a combined 1000nm of torque (for arguments sake), one wheel will only be getting 250nm of torque, which is not as useful. A dual motor system with front and real locking diffs would arguably be better for rock crawling than quad motors since you are doubling the torque of one motor at least.

      Nobody needs 500miles of range. Nobody regularly drives 500 miles and definitely nobody does it without stopping at all. WLTP range for the G580 is 294miles. Which is low for the price, but this car has 4 gearboxes and 4 motors and it weighs 3.1T. The new Macan has a WLTP range of 367miles.

    This will live on the boulevards and Rodeo Drive - it's never going off road except maybe up a curb. Range is terrible but not surprising given the shape, no full-size spare as standard because MB knows these do not go off-road, and yet weighed down by 4 motors, complex suspension, low range gearing, and underbody armor. Designed to be seen, not driven.
