To think I used to fall asleep listening to these sounds when I was little must have had a bearing on my love for Railways all my life, so far! We lived not far from the Horsforth (Leeds) line which, in its day would have handled all kinds of mixed traffic day and night. I loved opening the bedroom window and, listening to the trains, imagining what it would be like to be “an engine driver”! Ah, nostalgia.
