Also i'd like to say since the script changed a lot while making this video - the removal of the fortnite font and rarities are NOT huge deals compared to the rest of the user experience issues the locker UI has. I probably shouldn't have made them the 2 first things I said when listing off problems...

Dude I love your idea. It seems like you’ve put a lot of effort into the design. The thing a liked the most was to have different lockers for different game modes instead of the current mess. You even brought in the stw locker! That would be so cool if it got added. Keep up the cooking 🔥🔥🔥

Exactly, I have to sort my preset tab whenever I get a new skin and I make a preset for it, always a hassle, this would make it soooo much better and easier

It's funny how epic messed up the locker THIS much, like what even is so hard about designing a locker that works for multiple game modes??? What you just did there in the video is great and the most obvious and best UI you can probably make for this. The current design feels rushed.. Epic should really hurry up and finally do something about it asap!

I really hope this blows up and at least a few bigger creators get their audience’s eyes on this. It’ll scream more at Epic that we aren’t happy with these UI changes, but also show great solutions for it.
I’ve started ignoring half my loadout, in favor of running a bare bones locker because it’s such a pain to use them in the first place.
It also makes randomized loadouts almost useless unless I want to genuinely use a random set of wraps/emotes/backblings all in one.
There’s so many cosmetics in this game, and with an awful system like the current shuffling, it makes it harder to enjoy them.
Really hope enough voices speak about this, and we do end up getting some change or overhaul.
Yea same man I only use character presets at this point don't bother with anything else. Favorited all of the wraps that I like (which was not an easy task) and just set it on random since the start of Ch5. Barely bought cosmetics since

This redesign is so good! I really like how you have separate tabs for each experience (and also STW, even if Epic Games wants us to forget about it). I hate how we are forced to change our loadout every time we want to play RR, LEGO or STW. They could have just implemented the different loadouts for every mode and called it a day but they decided to make a mess of a UI and not care about it.

Literally, having separate loadouts for four game modes is so useful! We don't need separate wraps and lobby items! I love your concept and I wish Epic would actually listen to this. Also, ngl, the rarities look SOOOO good this way!

This is one of, if not THE best locker UI redesigns I've seen. I really hope Epic take some ideas from this into consideration when updating and improving the UI. (if they ever do improve it)
This is a sick locker design that has actual common sense that dwarfs the creativity of most of what companies do now.

I had played around with making a concept similar to yours, but I decided to keep Epic's "style" to be more cohesive, so my concept ended up going in a completely different direction. That being said, I absolutely adore the results you came up and would love to see the Locker UI look like this in the future!

This might be by far one of the best designs ever, all I would change is make an Emotes tab but have the option to “Use Main Loadout/Customized Loadout [select any game mode loadout] because personally I enjoy having emotes be separate so that no matter what character preset I use my emotes can always change, personally I find that more enjoyable but I don’t see why this can’t also fit in with the rest of the UI.
I also enjoy that of the emotes tab. Diferent to wrappers, i don't usually link my fav emotes to a specific skin, and that would just make me having more presets just because i wanted another emote.
The coding migth be some work to put out, so they won't probably do that of deciding main/customized loadout, but it would come a long way if it happened

I have never seen a video so real. I will never understand why games always change things (most of the time for the worse just like this) when no one, literally NO ONE complained. Bro just leave it alone. We dont need *BRAND NEW* UI... every....single... SEASON!

I also hate the round edges. The sharp edges were so much cleaner in my opinion
they absolutely are cleaner and allow for much more creativity, but the sad reality is that epic is following the rounded corners trend and not looking back... there might be small chance they bring back the burbank font, a tiny chance they bring back rarities, but it looks like we're stuck with rounded corners... at least until the UI trend dies down

Only one tiny thing that I want to point out is that the banner and music pack doesn't need to be on every single menu, but except that this is literaly PERFECT !!!

It makes me really happy that you included save the world with the UI. I miss when the lockers were separate. Now whenever I want to play stw, I have to change to a defult so I can use my hero's skin

Including skins and the lobby options in each mode’s presets is PERFECT. So frustrating that it’s this difficult to change cosmetics in game.
Absolutely crazy that the ENTIRE revenue model is based on skins and they only have 100 presets and no manual sorting. Great job speaking sense. I hope they play this at one of their UI improvement meetings
Great design. I’d love to see your take on an item shop redesign, that tab is all over the place right now… and maybe even a discovery tab/main lobby screen redesign!
The plan is to redesign lobby, discovery, locker, battle pass, item shop, and in-game hud. Lobby, discovery, and even the friends list sidebar are all done, but it's gonna take some time to finish everything

@@Stilloy I think the career tab looks ok for displaying what u need fast, i rarely do comp so ive never needed to fiddle around with the settings and sorting options.. how bad is it really?
@@Deadfurr I don’t want to get in the way of what u said bc it really is good for showing it but they removed legacies and sorting options is an absolute hassle especially if you want to swap between game modes there’s also more but I don’t wanna get into it all
omg this look soo great it is 100 million better than epic games current locker UI. I do understand why they wanted to change it, but it was way too unnecessary. I will accept the reason for changing it for the lego , rocket racing, and festival mode. Also I hope Epic games are seeing this video and realize that this locker UI is better than their current UI. now this is a great example of what epic games should've change (He liked this comment)
This is much better then what we had gotten. I hope you posted it on Twitter, because we can let them know. I agree with you about save the World locker. They ruined it.
What I hate the most is that I spent time carefully crafting my presets, each one with unique emotes, wraps, banners and music and even organized them in the 5er rows, but epics stupid change not only reorganized them into 3er rows but also made half of the wraps, emotes and lobby stuff disappear or removed its names. Since the beginning of ch5 i‘ve only used the same banner, music, emotes and wrap because this locker ui is so terrible.
Remember when Epic said:
"We hear your feedback, and stay tuned, locker updates and improvements are coming soon!"
and then proceeded to change literally nothing?

I just wish there were more preset slots instead of just 100. Or maybe, you could have a designated preset loadout for each skin you have. There are so many skins I’d like to use that way (over 100) but only a few that I don’t like which I could just archive.

It used to be fun to create a preset imo, but now it feels like a chore. I never change the lobby music, raps and car skins cause it’s sm work to go trough 4 different laps just to match everything together with a skin that i probably am going to change after a few games anyway
But i think u did a pretty good job redesigning the UI, it’s sm better that what we have now!
I wish when shuffle was on, your rolled skins have a less and less chance of being rerolled until you've gone through all your favorited skins in your shuffle
Im so happy someone mentioned the save the world locker. Not gonna lie it made me made the fact the the lockers were combined cause theres a special feature in save the world that allows you to equip skins you dont own in battle royal and now that there combined when i go into battle royal after save the world my entire game breaks cause i have an unregistered skin unique to a special game mode
Yea me too, having to switch to and from a locker preset every time when I dont even use the cosmetics in that mode is so annoying ugh

As someone who came to Fortnite because of Festival (and never used the old locker) this seems perfect. The current locker is super frustrating now that I know what it was-this makes WAY more sense 🤯
fun fact: the buttons for redeploying glider, swinging pickaxe, testing reactivity of wraps, etc. still work, they have only removed the button prompts. you can use them while hovering over the item in the locker (but not in the item selection menu).
i love how you did you own combined the old and the new but i still prefer early chapter two locker. it was so simple yet so functional.

Exactly my thoughts too. Funny how it happened after they let a load of people go, just before this change to the locker. You wonder if they let the designers go and let the software developers have free reign!

THANK YOU SO MUCH for pointing that out, the locker is a real pain to use and you mentioned all the issues I can think of right now and even more. Your Locker design is like perfect, except maybe the way these 4 buttons at the bottom left corner look, but hey, it's just you making a concept, I didn't even expect it to be THAT GOOD.
The way shuffling works is a bit weird to me, so my favourited items shouldn't be used as the only options, but instead give me the option (!) to always show favourites at the top (special emphasis on option). So I don't know how to really implement the shuffling mechanic, because right now, I wanna be able to quick-load lockers but not have them as randomizer options, and I wanna use unfavourited items as well. Maybe a button for "only pick favourited items" and also an option to "exclude item". Also an option to shuffle styles seperately with the option to always use the same style, even when shuffling skins, or don't shuffle skins, but only styles, again with exclude/include options.
I know, it can get too much pretty quickly, but I think this is still acceptable. I'm not asking for seperate probabilities for each item 🤣.
I hope epic takes this video and uses these ideas.

Thankyou for putting in the time and effort to make this video. Everything u want to fix/add is right on the money. Favouriting Locker Pre-sets is something I've wanted for years and unfortunately saw no one talking about until now. It baffles me beyond belief that the current locker UI is this bad for a game that's all about cosmetics. Fortnite should have the best Cosmetic Equipping/Creation UI in all of gaming but instead have settled for the complete opposite. Another thing that would be great to see is increasing the amount of Presets available. Either allowing the total of your skins to equal the amount presets available. OR Epic selling Preset Slots in the item shop so u can have as many as u need without going over board.

The way you set up the different modes is genuinely amazing. I have no idea why I didn’t think about it, but separate presets for the newer modes would be *chef’s kiss*. Unfortunately I don’t feel hopeful for Epic Games to get their shit together, at least for now

that locker bouncing constantly back to the equipped item is extremely frustrating and its relieving seeing anyone else voice the same frustration
The only thing i'd like to add is - editing what you want to be saved in your preset. I used to have tonnes of unusable old presets i'd have to fix all the time just because i changed an emote or two after i got it from the item shop, which made it a chore, other than that - p e r f e c t i o n.
I think this locker should also have an emotes tab but every preset has a toggle saying “use preset emotes” or “use locker emotes”
This is perfect! The only thing I would add is I would love a way for pickaxes, weapon wraps, and gliders to be previewed with the skin. That way you don’t have to go in game to see if certain colors match ect….

Things I love about this that weren't mentioned: A single badge sweeper button. The menu back on the left side.
That literally looks perfect. I hope they use your idea and give credit or hire you or something man they need to listen to the community right now.
One feature i do like that fortnite added was that emotes stayed the same throughout all presets. A good way to do this would be a button to simply "apply emotes to all presets", this could work the same for gun wraps and lobby stuff. The button could be maybe at the bottom of each menu, (that pops up when clicking on emotes, wraps). And for the lobby stuff the button could just be to the right of the 3 cosmetics when ur in the main menu of ur locker.

With the current locker we have the only update I have noticed is the patch of the bug which always kept on saying you had something new in your locker (which was almost always never the case). However that has appeared to return after the Avatar update with Banner Icons (at least for me)

bro I had a whole 2 page script at first and recorded it... realized that 1, it was like 10 minutes of in-depth criticism and in-game showcases and most people aren't gonna watch, and 2, it would just be better to quickfire everything wrong so people can see HOW MANY problems there actually are
Good layout design. Been doing UI/UX design for a few years now as a hobby, I would recommend making sure the font weight and size are the same for consistency unless it is being used to separate sections. Also (6:23) keep whitespace between items the same on both X and Y axis, additionally for this area the scale of the character info box is not consistent with the rest of the UI. Good work, healthy constructive criticism from a designer themselves.
