In kannada huli means pulippu. But sambar also they will call huli saaru.
In tamil puli kuzhambu (without dal).
You can add pull much earlier
I am a proper tamilian. In tamilnadu style, I'll add seasoning ,veg sambar powder, salt, then tamarind water after boiling , and finally, dal.
But karnataka style ,they'll add puli after dal.
