He actually isn't running it as a charity, he's registered as a CIC.
It is similar, but he gets hammered with a VAT bill every year.
The mistake he's made is not separating the charitable side of the business from the commercial side.
He's got it all lumped into one big mess, which makes it look like he's pocketing donations.
He still needs to pay his own and staff wages, buy work vans, materials, etc, etc. This is why he has 700k of donations sitting in the business. A CIC isn't supposed to make a profit.

This man displays every characteristic of a low range narcissist, he makes out he's caring, that butter wouldn't melt, that though he made mistakes they weren't his fault, he couldn't answer the question about the £80k donated as if he hadn't any clue, but was able to tell you everything you needed to know about the money he's spent so far, and to the very penny. Every time he did the typical sob story and deflection. And in the very end when answering the question of should he step down and let someone else run the charity, he smirked and said no, because he wants control of the money and the assets it's bought him.
