This has to be the best putting video out there.
So glad I stumbled upon this. Pulling the disc instead of pushing has been life changing.
The absolute best video I have ever seen on putting. No bullshit stand with both shoulders straight etc. It's the compact movement where you stand comfortably and PULL that is key. Repeatability. Well done!
really great video! Only thing i wish there were some more video examples were we actually see what you are talking about. Thanks for this very helpful video!
Best putting instructional I've seen. Well thought out, makes complete sense. Diagnosed about 3 or 4 faults in my stroke in 10 minutes. I will watch this several more times, bookmarked it. Thanks for putting this together
Probably the best disc golf putting video I've seen. Chris is a great player and a fantastic communicator. Thank you Chris!
Thanks for the generous feedback Benjamin Bidlack. More vids from Shotty to come soon!!
'Pulling' the disc from a resting position to full acceleration at the target.... hummm, that's a strong visual. I like it. I'm visualizing a heavy disc that fights to start it's motion, but once it's moving, it's inertia and momentum allow it to hold it's line.
Very knowledgable guy...great tips
Man thanks so much for the content! there are some really awesome key points in here that I have never thought about, I will definitely be trying them out and watching again.
Love the content! Despite the mic Quality being poor quality this Man totally made up for it with such a great tutorial and overview!
Chris is a great teacher. I really like the way he shares what he sees and knows.
Thanks Broph and Shotty!!! That was excellent!!!
Well done can't wait for more. Very informative, incredibly helpful. Thanks
Put this to work the other day at Leverich Park, and it helped my putts an extreme amount. Amazing content, the "pull" thought helps visualize the release point, and helps prevent wide heiser angles with the longer puts. If you struggle with putting, seriously consider practicing these mechanics.
These sounds like some really useful pointers, thanks Chris!!
This was fantastic. Thank you so much for this video!
Thanks for posting this video. Canât wait yo get out and practice
I've watched lots of putting videos.... This is by far my favorite! Well done, and loved the insight on the slightly closed stance (deltoid muscle) and "pulling the disc". THANKS!!!
Lucas Mangels, CMA Thanks for the feedback! More videos coming soon. đ
The perfect putting video right here folks
Thank you for the tips and easy to understand instructions! Great job hope to see more instructional videos.
Using the index knuckle light a gun scope is genius. I was consistently missing right of the pole. Now I'm dead center.
Chris Shotwell is very good at putting! Thanks for the insight!
Thanks Jake!!
Thank you! Great combination of 'general feel for putting' and specific tips that are tried and true. Especially going out to MY yard to work on the shorter hit point right now.
I *think* this is my favorite putting video this far. I hate how there are so many competing styles but also the conventional wisdom that more squared-up stances are better. I'll definitely try this one's approach as it seems closer to what I've traditionally been comfortable with. Only thing I wish we could see is more of the putting itself.
Thank you for making this!
I've watched several videos on how to putt and some good ones. But in this video Chris seem to explain it step-by-step going through the thought process the physical motions every minute detail. thank you so much
this has helped me correct years and years of poor form TY
This is my go-to video for putting tips. I watch it any time my putt starts to feel strange
Great coaching thoughts and suggestions Iâm sure this will help my putting. Thank you!
really well done. Thanks!
Well done! Iâm going to focus on my grip right now
so well done
I will try this tomorrow. đ
This is great stuff
best tutorial I've seen, thank you
This is the best putting video! Ive been playing about 6 years and always struggled with putting because i was focusing on "spin" putting and missing left constantly. The method of thinking of pulling the disc with pop at the end clicked and im started to bang some putts
Thanks Chris, nice video
MR. Brophy..........brilliant Idea,.. Somethign I wanted to do about 15 years ago,.... L O V E THIS!!!!
Chef Aaron ........
Great tips on the "PULL" of the start of the putt !!!
Great video. I've been throwing discs around for twenty-five years and now learning disc golf, putt is the weakest part of my game by a mile. Absolutely maddening. I'll certainly try these tips thankyou
Let us know if these tips work for you Daniel!
This is awesome! Thanks for editing - itâs way better to watch clinics when theyâre edited. đŻđŻđŻđŻ
Excellent instructional video!
Very good ...hit on several points I have never heard before ...pull the putter ...I really believe this is going through help me thank you
Wow, automatically found myself throwing farther/faster putts releasing on the way up instead of near the end of my arm extension. gotta practice dialing in the new arm speeds for distances. Less deviation on directional accuracy too! Thanks for the excellent instruction!
Smart and very helpful ty
Great video! Awesome information!
So many good tips. I think these tips would apply at any level.
Look forward to trying this out and watching more times.
Glad it was helpful!
Great information đ
I just watched this after struggling to find my comfortable putting style. I've had it during rounds but didn't know what I was doing from one round to the next. The compact tip helped me so much. I was flicking the disc at the top of my arm swing which really made the left and right misses so frequent. Now I am dead center and find my misses barely high or low if I have any. Thank you!
awesome video thanks mate
Great clip!
Pretty sure I could watch bearded Shotwell talk all day long. Easy on the eye, easy on the ear, easy on the brain!
Wow! Best coaching I ever seen. Would love to buy some irl lessons.
I really liked this tutorial from a face Iâve never seen before. I learned some things to focus on, thank you.
Thank you.
Lovely tips, thanks man! I immediately checked my dominant eye.
I find that long putt stroke like ricky sakebomb has, is most comfortable for me, and gets me more putts caught than a short snap putt. I do enjoy seeing all the different styles. It IS about comfort
I think this tutorial improved my game by 10 strokes and I havenât even thrown a disc today... awesome video! Thank you
Let us know how it works for you!
The suggestion of closing your stance off to allow the hand to come up straighter was super big for me. Thanks for the concise explanation! Great tips
Good logical advice. New subscriber here.
I own a basket putt regularly I am a decent putter but watched this video and went outside to try to use the knuckle site to aim and made 5 out of 6 from 35 ft cold .... Thanks
Good advice. Thank you.
Side note: Nothing like a puff, 00:22 before chipping out of the bunker lol
lol :P
This may be the best putting video that I have seen! Lots to work on but, next time you do a video, could you introduce yourself so I know who you are?
I'm watching this at 1230 in the morning, and I if I wasn't absolutely POSITIVE the neighbors would call the cops, I'd be outside trying this RIGHT now! As a new player, the pulling vs pushing comment hit my like a train!! It ALWAYS feels like I'm trying to shot put my putts and I get NO power on the long ones! Can't wait to try it out!!
Ive got a set of identical mcpros as the one you have đđ
Bryce Bowman youâve got good taste! Those are the best putters in our opinion. Good olâ Aviar putt and approach in stiff Pro plastic. đ„° Theyâre called âTour Series Aviarsâ now.
DiscGolfCoaches just bagged a fresh tour series aviar today along side a seasoned grand slam mcpro Iâve been hoarding my older runs and loving the new tour series runs!
This looks kind of like a green screen. ;)
Is it some type of vid-hdr?
Nah odolany just a good olâ iPhone on a golf course with no extra lighting, filters, or effects. The overcast weather made it look that way.
Yeah, I really didn't think he was really there until he threw one into the basket.
Agreed, also totally thought this was a green screen.
My putting is attrocious I'm gonna get myself a basket for my bday. Thinking the mvp black hole pro
My putt is always off to the right so I learned from this video that my release point is off to late.
So do u put spin on it or just release it straight
Chris, you look a lot like a guy I used to play with back in TX. Were you ever affiliated with Millennium and Circle R in Wimberley?
Ive been playing dg since the 90s and still have not developed a good putting style. đ«
Great video! could be a bit shorter imo. i was wondering what that sound was when the text came up..?
Alex Faulkner thanks for the great feedback. This was our first attempt at a video, it did seem like a bit long. We might chop it up into smaller sections to see if each âtipâ could be its own thing. Being our first one, we got a little creative with the editing. The sound with the text was just an editing gimmick, still not sure if it worked well or not. Thanks for watching and commenting!
One of my favorite parts is where he says in the end that you should really practice the putts at home that would haunt you to miss in a tournament. I relate to that big time. I feel like I always practice 20 to 30ft putts then when I get a 10 to 15 foot put I get crazy nervous. I think its the pressure of knowing I should not miss such an easy distance yet I'm not comfortable because I don't practice enough from there. My plan for the next while is to start making my practice putt sessions be 80% or more 20ft or closer putts.
That is a really excellent plan! 20 footers are pretty much the only thing that matters by the end of the round.
Good tips! Was this green screened or taken live on the course? Looks so crazy still.
This was a live clinic at Colton Golf Club in Colton, CA. They have both kinds of golf. Fun course!
The lighting is really outrageous and the seeing that marine layer makes me hate this heat wave even more
It was shot in Mid December so it was nice and cool. Not the case these last couple of weeks at that course. đ
@@DiscGolfCoaches it looks like it was scarily early in the morning. (I'm scared of all mornings up to around 11am)
Good vid!....but can I also get a lesson on the beard?
I really enjoy these videos.
One suggestion, could you turn the gain down on the mic? All of the videos that I've watched, the audio is coming through hot and very harsh.
We've finally learned to reposition the mic away from someone's throat when they're speaking loudly to a group, like in a clinic setting. All of our early videos have blown out audio unfortunately. We'll get better. Thanks for sticking with us Matt.
does anyone know what height the basket starts and ends at because I want to practice hitting a pole but I want to make sure its not to high or low
The opening of the catching area on a disc golf target should generally be between 31" at the bottom and 51" at the top.
So the key is to be cross eye dominate?
Came into the comments for this. You should definitely check which eye you see straight with before you decide which one to use to line up to the target lol.
Is that a kc whale!? Legend.
Putting is so boring to practice.. but I assume it is really fun to be very good at putting. I wouldn't know because I suck at putting
No love for turbo putters?
I always miss putts short...
For me that happens when Im afraid to miss and don't commit to putting straight through the target and shifting my weight forward completely without falling forward.
Dont drop your chin
Pull your Putts!
Hmm. Many others say you have to square your hips to the pin or point your toe at the pin. I guess there's no absolutes for any of this and it's a lot of experimentation.
You're exactly right. There's no absolutes when it comes to getting the disc in the basket, just odds and percentages. That's why it's so important to find what's best for your own body. Repetition and getting your own style well grooved ends up being the most important factor of all. Practice, practice, practice!
Who else thought he was on a green screen until he actually threw the disc?
If you got this cool beard everyone will listen to you even if they donât even know who you are or if you even actually know how to play .
Where is the power coming from? Is it all wrist? My putts come out floppy with no spin. 15 years in and Iâm still learning the basics. Geez.......
Hey Ethan. That's tough to answer through text, and even tougher without seeing your form. But, if I had to put it simply, I'd say it really comes down to the timing of the sequence of moving parts. That, and having a comfortable grip on the disc that you can trust. No body part should be moving independently, as they all need to work together to create that "pop". You know, that's actually a really good topic for another video, we'll have to work on that one soon!
I thought I was trippin....... It took me 5 minutes to realize that he was standing in front of a green screen.
I thought this was a green screen until I saw the putt.
Left eye is dominant.....đźđźđź. IDK.
Why does this look like it was filmed in front of a green screen?
i want a beard llike that
Looks like he is on a green screen.
Great job acting like there is a crowd watch you... I like the feel of the video tho seems like a pro clinic
Good content in the video. Terrible 1998'ish sound and texture on the text. Please don't use that "electric" text again ;)
It was fine, enjoy the humble retro vibes
