      Not to be that guy, but younger fans don't understand how big this was. The commentator didn't do it justice either -- he was too used to Messi being fantastic.
      Toughest Clasico era ever, Pep vs. Mourinho, Messi vs. Ronaldo, UCL semi final and Messi does this. Nobody to pass to, just YOLO and scores. When we saw it back in 2011 everybody was screaming, it seemed impossible.

I think this is Messi's greatest goal, but not the most iconic goal of all time. That is still Maradona's second goal versus England. It was like a musical score that began slowly with a stroke of genius, built to a crescendo and was punctuated with a dummy of the keeper. Messi's goal v Getafe comes close, but there was nothing at stake there, unlike Maradona's goal annd this one.

      Agreed. What impresses me the most about this goal is the fact that he even thought of attacking from that position and knew exactly what to do. It's like he saw a path to the goal beforehand and simply followed it. There wasn't a single moment of hesitation in his moves.This is the definition of a supernatural goal. For me, the best representation of Messi's genius.

    The assist is unbelievable. The intelligence from Busquets not only to just hand the ball back to Messi but also to play it slightly in front of him to allow him to run on to it away from the defenders and to position himself in such a way as to be an obstacle for the Madrid players catching up to Messi…very few players would make this work and Busquets is that special.

    The way Busquets just held it there and waited before lightly tapping it into his path.
    He, along with the whole Barca team most likely, knew exactly what he was going to do and that it would be a goal.
    I bet they’d watched him do that exact thing dozens of times on the training field.
    There was that story from Thierry Henry where he said if Messi wasn’t happy or whatever he would just grab the ball and run past everyone and score, and pretty much no one could stop him. Unreal that he can do this, and to Real Madrid in the Champions League too. Just look at some of the names on the back of those shirts who can’t get near him. Crazy 🤣

    This is the best goal of this era imo. Champions League semi final. The move starts near the halfway line. The two best players in the world are within metres of each other.     Wow, the most beautiful goal in all of football. You can never more perfectly take apart a team, individually beats every player he would ever need to when he is at a disadvantage in every challenge (other than vs casillas), he’s mesmerising, he’s something else. I don’t know how long we will wait until we see another Messi, I might be dead by then but I will never stop watching these videos, most talented man I’ve seen in all of sport, a constant joy to watch and an utterly unstoppable machine. I don’t think we’ll see a player as good as Ronaldo (maybe haaland or moukouko could but it seems unlikely) for generations let alone Messi, the only way we can describe Messi is a euphoria of magic.

    My personal favourite goal ever, A solo goal done by the best player in the world against one of the best clubs in the world, a world class assist by Busquets, metres apart are the two greats to ever do it, one of the best commentators in the world in Wembley stadium. While also being in the best team to ever play football. What more could you ask for?

    I consider myself very very lucky to have been able to watch these two players in the flesh multiple times each. But very grateful to have watched them both on the same pitch together twice… Man Utd vs Barcelona 2008 and Real Madrid vs Barcelona 2011 (messi solo goal) 🐐❤️

    This tie doesn’t get the recognition it deserves cause the games were dirty. But this is by far the biggest tie in the champions league in the past 2 decades. In 2011 el Clasico was constantly being called the biggest game on earth, this was the real CL final this year. Prime Messi vs Prime Ronaldo, Pep vs Mourinho, Barca vs Madrid… Just bc it’s Messi people will say “oh Messi isn’t the only player to score a good goal in champions league” but when u look at how high the stakes were, this is BY FAR the biggest goal in recent history, not just UCL history, the fact that he scored at the bernabeu makes it even better, will be hard to top imo. Name a bigger tie in recent years I’ll wait
