  • My studio has a serious organization problem, so I'm ignoring most of it and just addressing the filament piles! Let's get to building filament storage solutions that fit the needs of this 3D printer. Making our own filament storage solutions will be a simple DIY process involving cutting with the xTool P2 CO2 laser, 3d printing, and the RepRack open source filament storage system!

    Mandic, you’re really an inspiring builder to me. You don’t just focus on one thing. You’re really an “all the things” kind of builder (printing, CNC, hand tools, electronics, etc.). I am curious though about how you keep filament usable when stored like this. I can't even leve a roll on a machine for more than a day or 2 before I need to pop it into dehydrate, but I'm in south Louisiana where we have moisture with a little air in it.

      My studio is climate controlled year round & I'm in Pennsylvania. We have humidity but by Louisiana standards... we don't, ha. For me it is a non-issue unless it is something like TPU or Nylon that seems to almost generate its own moisture.

      Studio is climate controlled year round & at the humidity levels it is at, it is a non-issue. I'll dry things like PETG or TPU, just because I use them so infrequently, but even ASA is not a problem in this space.

      I do love my Vorons personally, but they are quite a bit more work (of course). Firmware / Klipper is a learning curve but pretty easy once you get it figured out. There are decent instructions all over the internet about setting up a Voron. I'd consider looking through the manual of whichever machine you want to build so you can see which mainboard and parts they use. That will make your life easier in the build process.

      Hasn’t proven to be an issue at all in my studio. Humidity effects on PLA are greatly exaggerated in my experience. Other materials require drying no matter what, so this doesn’t really change that. Overall I’ve had my filament on open shelves for years without issue, what’s different about putting them on racks that allow more airflow around them?

      @@MandicReally i have pla+ filmanet in my basement since years, 50-70% humidity all time (europe). some colors are spoiled, some are not. for example all neon colors are ruined, brittle and drying doesnt help. red tends to string alot across brands when wet. white is still good. now i put them in ziplock bags with desiccant

      Ellie only brought that by the studio for the video, I don’t have one. She’s got beta kits in the wild now though so it isn’t too far off.

      Maybe once it’s out. Had a ERCF kit on the shelf for months waiting for me to get to it.

    puts mic over machine to record machine noise, then puts music over the noise in post so you can't hear the machine. killing me 😅 Edit. Nice job man. I like that you leave your errors in.

      Mic was there to record me, I just didn’t take it off when filming the machine. Thought it looked silly anyway once I noticed. 🤣

      @@MandicReally I get it. I know you put in a lot of time to get the camera angles and shots. BTW My Lowes has a acrylic and will tablesaw them to size. You might want to check.

    holy smokes that P2 is expensive!

    • @MandicReally
      @MandicReally  Před 10 měsíci

      It is certainly not cheap. Comparing to the other machines in its class it is reasonable though. Glowforge is $7000, BeamBox Pro is $5000. Still a pricey machine for a diy environment.

    So... Are those Rolls just for serving a display purpose to show everyone and their Grandmother's Pooch you're a 3D Printing Maker like some sort of Trophy Hunter or what is the Endgame with having _that_ many of them? Cause I for one who prints decently enough for my own and family purposes already had to throw out like 3-4 barely used Spools of Filament into the bin after they had gone bad in one form or another - Like becoming brittle AF.

    • @MandicReally
      @MandicReally  Před 10 měsíci

      Having to order filament and wait on it is a waste of time for my job. I print as part of making content. Having options on hand allows me to be timely in content production. If a trend hits, or a project pops up, waiting on filament can be the difference between getting the views / project complete and not. I go through a lot of filament when on a run of content production (dozens of spools a week sometimes).

      There's only one Maker that could easily sell me on such a claim based on his _published_ Content and he only prints in Red™ 😏
      But out of curiosity... What would a project or a collection of projects look like that require up to a dozen of spools a week? 🤔🤨
