- I finally found a new production fixed carry handle AR-15 upper receiver! Let's take a look at my M16A1 retro build in its early stages. I was also able to get a Vietnam era stock set to compliment the build and lets also try and refurbish the stock set and make it look good again.

PSA made the smart move and bought NODAK Inc at a time when everyone wants Retro AR's.
Yes they did, but they need to step up the manufacture process, PSA has a very limited supply of retro stuff right now.
@@n721sw NODAK production was always well behind demand .. Perhaps PSA can expand their operations to somewhat satisfy the seemingly large demand for Retro A1's and A2's .
I personally know a lot of ppl that are wanting retro builds. What PSA has provided lately seems a way over priced but I do understand economics, supply v deman stuff.
@@n721sw I think they’ll be like m4 supplies after a while eventually they’ll saturate the market and ppl will get over it. It would be best if psa cranks up production and strikes while the anvil is hot. I only care about a faux dissipator with a adjustable block under the hand guard I don’t care if it’s a flat top Maby a ke arms lower or a regular lower with a A5 gas tube with a cheap adjustable stock.
Thanks for the reply Jeff, I hope they do crank up the supply. PSA has a M16A1 gray stripped lower the other day available, I bought it, it was the last one in stock. It’s like the do very limited runs for some reason, or, the retro stuff is just very popular right now. I wish I had an inside contact that could tell me from PSA lol.

Love carry handle AR's , got lucky and picked up a NDS build 16" Carr style upper on psa lower , ordered a Blitzkrieg tritium spike night sight highly recommend this sight for a fixed front sight

Nice upper receiver…It’s going to be a nice build. That was the only thing holding me back, when I popped into my local pawn shop, and saw a “ban-era” Bushmaster, 20” hbar, 1:9 twist, heinous quad rail (just my opinion), and adjustable buttstock. Sold or dumped everything but the receiver and BCG-take a look at my most recent video. Chris, Tx

Nice to see someone get something decent from Numrich. Everytime i have ordered from them the parts i recieved were trash.
I have had good luck with the couple of orders I've done. If you are referring to the A1/A2 furniture, it's getting older by the day and everything decays.
@@n721sw parts for my 1919, my garand and 1903 were so badly corroded I didn't want to use them. I just ordered handguards from them for my retro build. Hopefully they are usable.
Use a weed torch to bring the shine back like they do in the stadiums for the seats

I been trying to find the H&R a1 upper from PSA for months now, haven't gotten a chance to buy one yet
I see those uppers without the forward assist on GunBroker fairly commonly they're stripped down they're in the 180 price range. But I also see complete uppers with the forward assist from 600 to 800. I believe I have seen lowers without the fencing, but I don't know that's pretty rare. I'm pretty sure I have seen 80% lowers without fencing.
I seen last night that PSA had the slick sides in stock.
My 16 year old son wants an old carry handle AR with the A1 stock and grip. Never thought to look at psa for an upper for it.

Thanks for the reply, keep a close eye on PSA, they will pop up a few carry Handel receivers from time to time, but remember to snatch them immediately, or they will be sold out quick.

Check out satern barrell for the a1. You want to make the furniture look sharp. Home depot Behr spray paint. Look at mine on the y6 chanel.

....my issue M16 in basic (52 years ago - June -August Ft Dix A-3-3) was an H&R with the distinctive bluish grey anodized finish...
Beautiful rifles sir! They are making a comeback in the retro versions.
The front and rear sights are what make this whole system. Id like to have a true solid steel positive stop clicking half moa windage and elevation rears with the moa front post for the correct sight plane ( barrel distance between front and rear) per milspec. I think alot of people are unaware at just how much math and planning and or the importance of these dimensions are that ive mentioned when shooting out at longer ranges . For instance the front post is 1 moa at a certain yardage and when looking thru the sight picture of a proper lenth barrel. the front post when gauged against a average mans person for shoulder to shoulder will tell you the yardage. Its like a rangefinder on the fly! Its not priveledged info but it seems not alot of people talk about it these days with optics being what they are. Systems like this is why Marines in WW2 was so effective in the bush and at he matches. Having a spotter watch the splash and say up to clicks over 3 and walking you right on at 500 plus with iron ? Well that would be a damn good tool to have when 10 guys where spraying commie ammo by your ears im sure! Goodvideo . Keep it up. M16A1's never had adjustable elevation rear sights. You are referring to the later A2 rear sight that came about in the early 80's. A1 and all earlier XM models only had a two apertures which you flipped between one or the other. Both had small apertures unlike the A2 which had a large and small flip adjustable aperture in addition to an elevation wheel.

Here from my review. Are they gonna make grey lowers? I got lucky cuz I snagged a grey 601 lower and matching grey upper from NoDak back when it was just NoDak and they hadn't been sold to Brownells or PSA. I have a couple 601 videos, too.
PSA is the only game in town for this retro stuff man. I heard that they are working with it bought N Spud. They seem to make and release small batches of the retro stuff. I put in my email to be notified when they have stuff available. I got that slick side upper by doing that, I also just received a M16A1 lower -gray- in this past week. I did a short on that unboxing. I am planning on a M16A1 build just like the one you did a video on. Great video man. I love the tear drop forward assist. @n721sw PSA is the reason AR15s are as good as they are. Even if you don't like their stuff they have MADE other companies produce better products
JSE has them in stock right now, But with the deflector.
I just a couple of weeks ago found out about JSE thanks to a viewer, I went to the website and ordered two uppers. I did a video on it; I love the uppers!
Nodak Spud is now part of Palmetto State Armory. They will have an H&R website up sometime in the future that will actually be Nodak Spud parts so I'm guessing you'll see all the retro AR stuff on that.

WD-40 ain't going help that old furniture. Once the polymers age out the discoloration is permanent. Back in the day they tried everything, and nothing worked. We either replaced with a like buttstock or upgraded it with the new buttstock w/spacer and long screw.
Honestly brownells is your best bet. They keep good stock

Nope, NoDak was making all the Brownells retro parts, and now JJE Capital owns NoDak. So Brownells will get parts when JJE has them. None of the companies JJE Capital owns seems to ever have much in stock. JJE Capital owns PSA, and as you can see PSA is always sold out of almost everything. As for the retro uppers there are several companies that sell them, and they are easy to get.
Armor All for plastic and vinyl will last longer than WD40.
I'm waiting for these to come back in stock, already got a 601 lower and the fit and finish is superb. Markings look so good. Retro parts market is really good right now and you can get repros of all the slabside parts. Luth-AR makes slickside uppers but they only come in black. Brownells used the same forgings as PSA but they're discontinued
I can promise you that that'll be more. Then you can handle They won't be hard to find any more. Not when p s a gets done They're gonna be selling the mess out of them
I got about 50 or more builds under my belt..try tonys customs/ brownells. Some time centerfiresystems...im in a retro build now making a Hollywood dissipator from the 1997 bank of america trying to find a a2 upper receiver the barrels on back order Windham Weaponry
Love the retro ar I have a few but the ones I'm most proud of builds are my Brn-10s. Ps I may order one of the stock kits 7.. 5 not bad the Marble effect is called a Colt "Bakelite"
I haven’t been able to locate a gray slick side lower to go with this upper. Yesterday, I bought an Anderson A2 style lower, took it to a gunsmith machinist and requested that the fence around the mag release and the raised fence below the dust cover (that houses the front pivot pins’ pin and spring) to also be machined off. I will use a Colt style screw/pivot pin, which is more original anyway. I found some gray paint that seems to match the upper perfectly. Gonna be a week or so before I can pick it up but I am excited and hopefull that it turns out great. The only thing that wouldn’t me correct would be the reinforcement in the rear where the buffer tube screws in. Anyway, thank you for the info, I’m gonna head over and check those sites out, thanks lord!
Try Shark arms...I just completed my M16A1 clone and was pleased with my stripped upper. $225 shipped. But I did have to make a money order since his business is in an unfriendly gun state, though he is moving his company to Wisconsin. I was very satisfied with my purchase. Hope this is helpful.

Bad idea! There are several reports of his bad business practices and I am one of them. His receivers are out of spec. The rear sight pocket is milled too deep and affects the rear sight position. He also sent me a receiver that had the carry handle milled too shallow to the point it was milled through the top of the carry handle. I have also had to do a charge back through my bank because he didn’t issue my refund as he said he would. Total garbage.
