What I love about Kai`s reviews - no bull**it talking to the camera behind the desk, just lots of bull**it talking in the field with the actual reviewed camera and bloody straight explanations of what it can or can`t do.
the mic is actually pretty decent
nvm
It’s rubbish
*trash
Really? Sounded super super tinny for me
It’s surprisingly usable on the single mic shotgun mode. That smart mode/omnidirectional picks up too much ambience.
I'm always impressed with how your videos blend the effective/practical elements with entertaining elements. Thanks for that!
Excellent camera for vlogging. I especially like the sound thing. It actually doesn't need an external mic. I said doesn't need. So in a pinch if your good mic is not available, no big deal. You still have quite acceptable audio. It's a winner. The AF is better than older Panasonic cameras at this price range. Great news for vlogger. I use nordvpn. It's quite fast to connect and does what it is supposed to do. It's a VPN. Good video. Thanks
I know this man from another youtube account, and This why i follow this man where ever kai is.. Love your review..
Kai: "I'm gonna wear a hat. It's OK. OK."
G100: "NOT OK!"
The mic presets actually sounded really good! Called me surprised!
The audio its picking up is really good.
The mic automatic mic direction tech thing is cool but it's a shame that the on board mic(s) are bad
The "mic direction tech" has been used for quite a while in submarine microphone arrays to detect submarine direction/range. Microsoft Kinect from 2010 also has a microphone array for direction sensing. It's certainly interesting to see it in such a small body with just 2(?) microphones, but how useful is it really...
Omg the weather look Super nice In the UK for a changed Kai💗👍
There could be a lose connection from the speec controller on your board, would be worth taking it apart to check. Those motors are quite hard to break
Audio seemed good at first, then turned to 8kHz telephone-quality at 9:20. Wind noise reduction kicking in when there's no wind?
I wish they could put that fast AF AF into the GH5. Maybe we'll get lucky with the GH6. The internal audio is surprisingly really, really good. Great review Kai. Thanks again.
I'll keep my G85 instead. Sad that Panasonic take away IBIS for the new G100, and the 4K crop still the same as G95.
Whenever i heard Shotgun Mike im imagining somewhere on this world a dude named mike smiles at the shotgun in his hands
Great, now that's all I'll think about...😂
If I'm not mistaken, OZO sound is a tech that's in some current Nokia smartphones.
E Aznet It's actually quite nice on my Nokia 8... it's just that my phone has an ~80% chance of rebooting when I open the camera app...
You are brilliant, love ur videos ...
Very good content by Kai..
Thanks for your review of the new Panasonic Lumix G100, Vlogging camera. This camera appears to be for a very special group of people who take videos for various reasons and share them on the internet. It's not my thing, but I appreciate your information and detailed review with lots of scenarios. I am not sure why Panasonic would not include a special microphone kit for this camera, to make it easier for the bloggers to have a dedicated microphone to choose from for this G100 camera. (unless I am missing something). Honestly, I am happy that Panasonic has released a new M4/3rds camera, while Olympus appears to be going out of the camera business.(But it's not clear as of now) It has been a number of years since the Lumix G9 was released, will there is a successor? Who knows, we shall see. Thank you for your detailed review and your information. Please keep them coming. :)
Very interesting mic tricks Panasonic!
Acoustic guy here. The tech is called mic beamforming. Old tech used in hearing aids for quite a while now. To work well in the practical world it needs multiple mics positioned quite a distance apart (depending on the lowest frequency you’re interested in) called an array. If you can get a good track of the sound you want to record, will an RMS algorithm you can remove any background noise. It’s apparent here that the frequency response of the mic here is (let’s say the fidelity) isn’t as good as the other mic Kai is using as his voice is somewhat different, which means there is some compromise the beamforming is using to achieve the results the different modes.
IMO, 12mm (24mm FF equiv) is the perfect vlogging FOV.... Sometimes wider works, but I find it distracting if used to much. No need for a large EVF on a vlogging camera either.
As someone who loves a portable camera for mainly stills/a bit of video, this looks like the perfect size. To take everywhere. Could fit this in a compact bag with one to two other cameras easy. I’m not a vlogger but I am interested in this body. I think Panasonic may have targeted the wrong audience w/ this one. Question for Kai: I know it’s likely preproduction, but does it include the bleach bypass filter mode for stills? Update: it says so on the press release. I do shoot in raw/jpeg but I still love me some built in bleach Bypass modes.
Great camera for vlogs
Decent vlogging camera! I wonder how it works with photography!
nice knowing you.
Cool sunglasses!
Will you be making a video talking about the sale of Olympus Camera division?
Some great ambition from Panasonic there, but yeah, that's not good. Not exactly bad either, but you should expect better.
As for the e-board; why not try an Arc board?
Hey Kai, part of your background sound effect has a periodic beep sound which is exactly the same as the reminder alarm for my manager's meeting, which makes me feeling pressure while watching your video.
"Just filming myself, taking a dump, in a park. How do ya like that?" loool!
Looks like it will do the job well based on the cost, hope all is well.
Only if Rode announces an external stereo mic compatible with that zone tracking audio feature combined with data from build in mic but not the actual sound, like using onboard mic as time of flight sensor.
Hey Kai, take a look at around 4:47 and zoom into that vineyard looking thing on the left (camera left of the shot). You see all those faces in the vines or what?
I guess it is cool, but straight capture to PC would probably make much more sense. Streaming seems to be the new vlogging, and given how good new phones are at both, lacking the tools for one form of content creating seems like a big flaw
Buying one for Christmas...for ME!
The wind noise canceller cancels the wind, which is neat
Kai, replace that boosted board with a Backfire Zealot or an Exway Flex. Boosted went out of business haha.
I have this as my second camera. I am having difficulties getting settings right for video indoors, food. I have plenty of lighting
"Oh poo"....I love the way he says that. Hopefully you can fix the Boosted Board.
They've lost their marbles
And gained the Canon cripple hammer
Considering Panasonic has seen what sony did with their new zv-1 'vlog' camera they fell short with this one, I'd go with Sony than this any day
Dont like the tiny sony sensor the panosonic is much better at low light and over 400 iso because of the sensor. No sensor should be smaller than a mft s
@@castielvargastv7931 If you use the kit lens, Sony ZV1’s low light performance is much better. To match 1inch sensor with f1.8, 4/3 needs f2.5 or 2.8. Lumix 12-35mmf2.8 is a bit big for G100, and I prefer using G85/G9 with the lens. If you use 15mmf1.7 with G100, It becomes 15mmx1.79=27mm lens (54mm for 35mm-equivalent focal length) when shooting 4K with EIS. It is too narrow.
Eugene Wangchuck well the sony has a 24mm lense it has a much bigger crop factor because of the smaller sensor . Mr wong on youtube did a review and even with any stabilisation enabled on the lumix the sony is more narrow. With a stabilized lense you dont even need the electric stabilizer. Thevsony also falls apart above iso 400. i would never buy a one inch sensor cam. I would not buy the g100 either. Ok it is small but my g85 is small enough and i dont mind using my gh5 either. Both of them have real 4k and not qhd like the littleone + ibis
@@eugenewangchuck8633 agreed, but considering the target market it's directed to, the sony zv1 or the Panasonic g100 for vlogging I would choose the Sony over the Panasonic, much better stabilised, better in low light etc
ZV-1 is f1.8. G100 kit lens is f3.5. The difference is 2 stops. When ZV-1 uses ISO 3200 in the low light situation, G100 uses ISO 12800. I checked the comparison tool of DPreview, and found that G95's low light performance is 1 1/3 or 1 2/3 stops better than ZV-1. That means that G100 with f2.8 lens can perform better than ZV-1 in low light situation.
Internal mic is damn..... 😍
Sony and Panasonic have been very competitive with each others since probably before the the walkman days in the 80s
Honestly I think when this drops in price a bit it'll be a great webcam for streamers, don't need IBIS if it's always in one place and it has support for the Panasonic webcam software so no need to buy a camlink either.
Wow, never though Panasonic is gonna release a camera that bad. They target vloggers but it has the worst stabilization on a Panasonic and also has a huge crop in 4k. Before I use that for vlogging I better use my smartphone!
Micro 4/3rd's loser sensor
** I could say the same of your Sony full frame sensor. When I compare it to a medium format. Different sensors have different strengths. And I would wager anything you could not even tell the difference on large print between a micro 4/3 sensor and a full frame one. Don’t be a fanboy. Use your tools for the reason they were built.
@@user-ok6ef9zn4f Tell this to all the Olympus Visionaries, which are among the best photographers in the world, particularly in the landscape and wildlife photography realm.
@@tankerbruja micro loser, Pentax is the best
Yeah, Sony's piece of shit vlogging camera uses an even smaller sensor than MFT -- it's only a 1 inch sensor.
Love my Nikon Z50 !
I like your snickers!
Don't worry about the board, they do that sometimes. Just turn it off and let it sit, takes like 20s 👍
Impressive audio
I was honestly expecting the camera to somehow have like a stereo mic or smthn like dual channel audio. The tracking woulda made sense imo.
Can you review canon 1500d, T7 DSLR. CLICK PHOTS WITH CANON 1500D. Show your best photography with that.
I love my Panasonic G9. Amazing camera stacks of great functions and completely useless fave detection autofocus when vlogging.
I hope this G100, has better autofocus for vlogging than my G9 has.
The G9 autofocus is great since the firmware update. Maybe the lens is the problem.
Is the gh5 better with video cause it has a 400mbps or is this since the advances in tech with a newer cam even though it only has 100mb
Love your work.
Please (all vloggers take note) do not crouch in front of camera when wearing shorts.
Just knowing what might appear accidentally makes me very nervous.
If you don't mind me asking, what phone are you using? The video from the phone looks better than the camera.
He was using a GH5, not a phone.
Interesting everyone talking about how crap the mic is, not sure why but in the mono direction mode I thought this mic sounded better, and closer to an actual shotgun mic than the ZV-1. The ZV-1 sounds like it’s being compressed through a tube, the same way this one does on the omnidirectional mode. Only difference is, on the ZV-1 you can’t switch the modes. So you’re stuck with the one option, whether you like the sound or not. Or at least they haven’t talked about another option. I’m sure they either have it or will add it in firmware updates. But will it be as useful when it only has one mic to draw from? Only time will tell. For now, I’m going to get one of these as a little hybrid compact, and expect no more out of it. And as for audio, I use separate mics anyways. So, no real downsides for me here other than the battery life. Which probably won’t be great.
Does it have clean hdmi for live-stream
Yer hats on back-to-front again.
Amazing sound quality in such small package
Are you serious 🤔 it’s freaking terrible. The parts you hear that sound decent is using the Rhode mic.
You are joking?
THIS IS YOUR JOB NOW! =D
but when you flip the screen to the front , you make the back the front? so is the sound option back/front , you're confusing me kai. Also it wasn't the hat it was the clothes Kai. Its a rated R Vlogging cam.
Did you use a panasinic 7-14 or an olympus?
They should’ve made an LX20. I think it’s a better form factor for vlogging.
there aren't any decent cheap ultrawides for MFT, are there?
You are hilarious. Enjoyed watching you take a dump 😂👍
6:46 wow that wind noise reduction makes your voice sound weird
They're only using the middle 16 megapixels of that 20 megapixels sensor in 4K, giving it an additional 1.26x crop on top of the 2x crop, so that 12mm focal length becomes a 30.6mm. It also means that the portion of the sensor actually used for video is equivalent to a camera with a 1 inch sensor.
Better to buy the 4 years old GX80 and stick a cheap monitor on top. No additional crop factor in 4K, more of the image sensor being used resulting in better image quality, less high ISO noise and it has better stabilization.
Lol 4k video is 8mp always . Full hd was 2mp
Very interesting
Kai always dehydrated
"Quick, somebody call the RSPCA! Cats are being harvested for wind muffs...oh, wait, he said 'don't' do it. Dang, another missed opportunity. Kind regards, PETA". ;-)
The g100 mic was impressive
It was rubbish, tinny and hollow.
Not available. Preorders only. So much for using it July 4th. Oh, we are in a Pandemic. I like the $700 price point. Think I’ll just buy a GoPro instead. 😉
Hello from México!.✋🙋♂️
Now can they add the red Talley light to the GH5 seeming as they added to it to this crap?
Did you drop it too?
The audio is good
nice!
How does it compare to the Sony?
With all the poo pooing that most reviewers are doing right now, I'm hoping that this camera will go on sale almost immediately. I have a G9 but I'd like something smaller to replace my old GX1 for street photography. I always wanted a GM5 but those went sparce pretty quickly and now command insane prices on the used market. I love my GX1 but it's dynamic range is very low which creates problems at times. This G100 would be a great deal at 450 or 500 USD, I'd also buy it body only (if offered) since I already have a load of m43 lenses.
To me sound is perfect from this internal mic
we need a compact vlogging with an ultrawide angle lens. That would sell better than bread.
*PLEASE*PLEASE* What is your outdoor narratin audio setup on this video? It sounds AMAZING!👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
🔥🔥🔥📸
I think a basic Canon 740, would be a better vlogging choice with top stabilization
LOL, I've never heard anyone use Canon and top stabilization in the same sentence. Canon and Sony's stabilization are notoriously bad.
Audio: seems pretty dang good actually.
Video: OH GOD WHY IS IT SO TIGHT FOR A VLOGGING CAMERA
Built-in mic sounds better than the Rode!
When do hairdressers reopen in the UK? 😘
July 4 th
Kai thigh action shot!!!
When the review is mostly about the mic system, yeah.
its so cute
The mic sounds like those diy cup telephone that u make as a kid
It really does.
How is it for taking photos, not eveyone vlogs.
Why the hell would they take away IBIS. It's so bizarre to me. And before people get on my case about the small size: GX85. Especially if Vloggers are out vlogging, IBIS is a game changer. Wtf??
Either way, I hope they keep pumping out some goods in the micro-four thirds department. The GX85 and BMPCC4K cameras have shown me what kind of insane power resides in that sensor type.
The GX85 had the absolute worst IBIS I've ever seen. I had to warp stabilize every shot in post -- they properly removed it because it didn't work properly in such a small body. I traded in my GX85 for a G100... And it was a definite upgrade. The lack of a mic input on the GX85 made that camera useless for anything other than still photography.
Now where is the gh5 mark 2 or gh6 plsssss
The tracking sounds rubbish but "front" and "back" sounds pretty good, keeping in mind that it's an internal mic.
Too bad the kit lens doesn't go wider.
The audio at 5.25 was not the built in mic as shown on screen. It was obviously the Rhode mic. The built in mics are pretty rubbish with nasty internal processing.
The Sony ZV-1 got my vlogging cam business ... I think the should have just blown off all that mic stuff and put real IBIS instead. Nevermind that, vloggers should get the Sony.
What camera was this shot on? GH5?

why don't you talk about recording limits!
