- My first-ever video essay explaining the history and progression of Indie Animation for my History of Animation course! If there are any issues with my sources I'm more than happy to take this version down and republish with end credits!
Music and footage do not belong to me!! Only my voice does!

I happened to notice the audio took a dip somewhere in the 2nd half. I love the video, though, and the topic. Keep up the good work, don't let the algorithm get you down -- I care and many others do, too. They just don't know it yet.
Oh of course! Thank you for pointing that out! I have lots of moments where my audio is very jumpy, unfortunately I did not have a good voice recording setup as I just used my phone to pick it up! If I do this again I’ll totally figure out a more viable setup! Thank you for your kindness!! :D
I saw welcome to hell in the intro and I was hit with so much nostalgia omg
Another really awesome Indie animation is BFDI (Battle For Dream Island). It is a competition show inspired by Survivor and Total Drama, but instead the contestants are characters of household objects instead of humans. They released their first episode in 2010, made by 12 year old twin brothers and it still runs to this day. They currently have 5 seasons.
There is also many other awesome indie animation too such as Spooky Month or Porkchop n' Flatscreen.
Oh cool!! I’ll be sure to check them out!
Great video essay.
Wonderful attention to detail making each of them accurately with only one mistake. That's quite impressive given how many examples you used.

Thank you!! This is the first time I’ve created content like this so I will confidently admit that this video is not 100% perfect! I’m glad you were able to enjoy it nonetheless!! :)
Only 40 seconds in and I already love the vibe and the Vsauce music. 10/10 excited to keep watching
I’m glad you’re enjoying it so far!! :D
5:55 WOOOOO!!! D/CK FIGURES IS HERE!!!!!
love this video! indie animation holds a very special place in my heart and I've learned a lot from this essay! thank you for your hard work ❤
Thank you! I absolutely agree! While working in this I realize that there is so much that really goes into indie animation and I feel my video is a very broad take on it! I’m glad you enjoyed!
i KNEW that Eddsworld would be in that video
Gotta give the OG’s some love! 🕊️🥤
Well made ngl, good job! You earned a sub!
Thank you for your kindness! I'm glad you enjoyed!
Nice essay! ty for crediting everything too, I definitely have new stuff to check out :)
Absolutely!! I wish I included more examples, especially with more current day indie projects but unfortunately I was on a massive time crunch when it came time to submit my work! I’m very happy you enjoyed! :D
Recently I made a video for one second for every year in the history of animation, and I was hoping to someday make a sequel to it dedicated exclusively to indie animation, however I am having trouble finding results for the earliest of indie animations, so does anyone know what the first known instance of an indie animation released for the public would be?
I honestly just surfed the web for whatever I can find, usually looking into directors/producers of specific animations. You can argue that the first “independent animation” is the earliest/first animation produced like Fantasmagorie (1908) since as far as I know it wasn’t published under a massive animation studio. But if you’re referring to feature length animation then I believe that would require more extensive research! Totally check out animationresources.org or any educator sites!
@@crunchycrayons Fantasmagorie (and in fact, early silent cartoons in general) makes a lot of sense, because animation was just starting out at the time so I can't imagine any big studios at the time would've had any real animation departments at the time. On the other hand, if I were to do such a video, including Fantasmagorie might seem redundant since I used it in the original video I made too.
@@jamesb.6197 Of course! Though it is up to your discretion, you could begin your video when big named studios like Disney officially began to make a name for themselves in the industry! It requires a bit of research but if you're into the industry it's definitely not research going to waste! :)
Yes, sure, nice essay or explanation whatever to do the style of indie animation almost better than anime
Oh Well
my love of lastman brought me here
I'm happy you spared some time to show some kindness on my video!! :D
