- How to make a compost sifting system that works for soil as well. Great if you want to make seed starting mix. Total cost is around $10! I was a fan of the wood frame screen, but this works way better. Watch this video to see how to make this from 2 buckets, and how it works!

Cannot stress enough how much I love this design. Makes everything so easy!
I'm training maintenance to a factory with loads of buckets that get thrown out. Adding this to the project list!
@@timothyrae9145 toss a lid on before shaking and it really tears through the chunks
And you made the logos line up when they are locked together. Nice
Easy way to know where to line it up to lock it in
I was surfing and found this video. Love how you made the sifter.
Thanks. I enjoy this much better than the wood sifter. Worked better than I had planned
Beautifully simple idea. Even I could make this.
I use this a lot. It's less messy than my other sifters
EXCELLENT! this will work just great for shifting my bunny manure! than you! I will use the kitty litter bins I have around here that I try to recycle , upcycle and reuse. But if I come across some of those pales I will also use those..thank you !
Perfect. Rabbit manure is good stuff. Found another use for my cat litter buckets. Thanks!
Brilliant idea! Looks like something I can easily put together.
Works great!
Great idea and something I think even my not-so-handy self can handle! Thank you!
You will love it!
This is a great idea. Love the resourcefulness and frugality. I’m using this for sifting my mealworms. I was considering buying the bucket fitting sifters. Not anymore!
That is WHY I thought of this! Mealworms are 90 bucks for a 12lb bag and mealworms make my chickens lay like crazy in winter. I thought those sifters looked great until I saw the price. I'm going to take a couple more buckets and use finer mesh just for the mealworms. I'm just doing a 2 tub system so realistically the 1/4" will be fine to move beetles to the breeding tub.
Yes sir! Keep grinding Robbie!
Genius! Love it 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks!
Good idea. I use an old box sifter, but this way is much cleaner. Well done
Hey, love your gardens!
The wood sifter was my go to. I thought of this for mealworm farming but since I already use a bucket to catch my compost why not make it cleaner
Great Original Design good on you for posting the video cheers
Thanks!
Excellent idea! Thanks !!!
Thanks for checking it out!
Great Idea. I was going to make 2 big sifters with different size mesh. Now I just need to do it with 2 different buckets. A lot less space when stored. Thanks for sharing.
I need to make a 1/2" myself
If no one has told you before, let me tell you now, sir you are a genius!!! 🤯🤯🤯. I will be making this next week. Thanks for the video.
I love this thing! Use it almost daily
@@FastGardeningMichigan oh Im sure you do. I needed this badly over this last week while getting planting for the growing season. Because its easy to store with my other garden tools, its perfect! I have everything in my basement except to nuts for my bolts. I will have my husband pick up some today while he is out. Thanks again for the tutorial.
Very practical well done.
Thanks!
Bro thank you for this idea!
You'll love it. I use it everyday.
thats really good idea !
Thanks!
Gooday from Australia..thanks for that idea..i like it and will build one..keep warm...looks cold outside the chook house.
Let me know how you like it
Good job Mate!
Thanks!
Awesome!
Thanks!
Love your project, love that fine, fertile compost...and I adore your nosey girls! Thank you for this enjoyable presentation.
Thanks for watching!
TY TY TY TY Disabled lady needs this, TY
I love this thing. Been using it a lot
How tall is this gizmo when completed? I’m a 5’3 female and was wondering if I would be able to shake the buckets without them hitting the ground. The guy demonstrating it looks to be over 6 feet tall. I thought about standing on something to elevate my height, but that would be dangerous because I’m also elderly.
This would be slick for my worms...could even put a few buckets with different sizes to save on sifting time
I'm going to make a 1/2" hole version soon. You could probably make a worm tower with buckets stacked like this
Love the simplicity and convenience.
Great job.
Might I suggest a smaller bucket for top or a larger bottom.
Mesh screen was over cut and kind of wasted a lot of material, cut from edge not 6-7 inches into screen, my only complaint.
Thank you
The same size buckets are to make a tight fit when it is twisted together so they dont bounce around a lot
Really good idea for a sifter. Most gardeners should have those items readily available. So how many gallons of compost does your chicken coop deliver every year? Appears to be about 7 or 8 chickens. Thanks for posting.
Ive never fully harvested it. I only take it as I need it. Its about a foot deep and the sheltered run is 8x10. There's a decent amount in there
Just a cost cutter idea yoi chould of just drilled quarter inch holes all over the bottom 😊😮
True. But the metal being thinner and stronger gives it a cutting action for the stubborn bits. Especially when I need to use my hand to rub it in to break it up. Mostly to sift potting soil. The fibers are a pain. For chicken compost holes would work great.
I need to do something with soil mixed with stones and broken up pottery, and riddled with weed seeds. I was thinking dispose in skip bin then replace with new soil, but that will costs like AUD 1000. And then I could sneak little bits of soil in our regular trash which is a no no. Or find some where nice and quiet in the country to dump the soil, I think there is nothing bad in it so morally I can be OK with this. I was toying with making my own sieve and saving the soil I have, I am leaning more towards this now.
I did a video where I sift soil to remove rocks and clay chunks and amend with organic matter. Helps a lot
Nice snow. I think if you going to live somewhere cold at least let it snow some of the year, except then you have all the driveway shoveling and icing on roads? Can't have everything.
I should be using a plow for my driveway but I do it with a shovel. Not fun
So if I sift the material on the floor of my coop can I use whatever goes through the sifter?
Depends what you use in your coop. This is in my run. I load the run with anything that would go in the compost pile. Chickens compost it in place
@Fast Gardening Michigan I use many things including wheat or alfalfa straw, pine pellets and shavings and all of my vegitarian food scraps get thrown in as well. I want to use the coop floor "soil" they have been making for three years but I'm worried about the newer poop being too hot.
@@dehnadykeman3614 i didnt have issues with mine being too hot but mine is mostly brown matter. I think the chickens mixing it up daily helps keep it from getting too hot, but deep layers will get hot and need to be physically turned
@Fast Gardening Michigan thank you! Making my bucket sifter this weekend. Looking forward to your future videos!

Hey I saw something nifty diy what about a mesh small trash can.
I think any 2 vessels that will fit into eachother will work. Maybe I'll make a monster version with a 55 gallon drum!
@@FastGardeningMichigan maybe sir but then I might have u pick it up and shake it.
