    Thank you Lorrie, For a great video, I have had my portrait for 7 months, this is the first I've seen on how to drag an image and then place it in your silhouette program to do a print and cut or just cut, thanks so much. Cheers Anna.

    thank you, thank you, thank you. I've watched many videos on tracing images from other sources, but it never took it through the print/cut actions, and I was having great issues there. Just watched your video and got a successful print/cut from a PDF I traced. I can't wait to see what else you have out here!

      Teri, I feel your pain. I was ready to chuck mine out the window. I've read everything I could find and watched numerous videos. This is the first one that got me to my destination--tracing a PDF and converting it to a cut file and having it actually CUT! Yeah!. I have the latest Cameo Designer and the screens look a bit different than the older version. The online manual does help with that. Don't forget to stop the video, back up and watch again. It's confusing too depending on whether the presenter is using a Windows or Mac computer (I have a Mac and so especially appreciated Lorrie's video from that perspective). We shall overcome.

    Lorrie, I recently purchased the Silhouette Portrait 2 and am having difficulties figuring out how to process cutting an image from the library or one that you buy. I am very interested in making quarter size notecards for special occasions like birthdays. Do you have a step by step video that shows how to do all of this? I thought this video was good but have to agree with some other remarks that you did a lot of clicking without explanations. I do understand you have to play around with it but for us newbies it's confusing. Thank you!

  • @Jos-y2t
    @Jos-y2t Před 8 lety +2

    It seems that you are having a Silhouette party on your own. When teaching someone you really need to explain what you are doing! You did a whole lot of clicking without explaining yourself. I agree with another comment "more confused than ever".

    Great video, is this software for the Silhouette Portrait or the Silhouette Cameo?

  • @covid-19inthistogether96

    So just to be clear, you cut the color image on your computer, then you take that image and place it on your Cameo mat and the Cameo will cut around the image? Could you do a Part B for this tutorial to show how this is done? I'm hoping to be able to create cut files for some of my stamps so I don't always have to buy the matching framelet dies or if it doesn't come with a matching punch or framelit die! I saw Gina K do that but I only saw the end result, not the process.

    • @LorrieNunemaker
      @LorrieNunemaker  Před 10 lety

      I print the color image from my computer through the Silhouette software. Then I place the printed paper (with registration marks) on my Silhouette mat and it will cut the image according to how I've set it up. In the video once I trace the image you can see a red line around the image. That is where it will cut.

    Thanks for this video. I am a photographer and want to cut images out of my photos and mount them. Is the portrait or cameo better for this, or are they the same. Also, any tips on other things I should buy to help with this- IE is there a two sided adhesive paper to print on or is that added later? Is there a foam backed paper since I see you can change the depth of the cut. Thanks.

      Michele Dally Either machine would work. The Cameo does have the print and scan mat that could make this easier depending on the photo. I personally, would never go back to using my cameo. The Explore cuts so much cleaner and better.

    I got my portrait just 3 weeks ago and I found out that if you align your printed (with registration marks) paper just half an inch down the grid (i.e. half inch vertically), it cuts perfectly. I did however have issues with plumeria (sil store) despite the reg marks being detected successfully and me placing the paper half inch below. The cut was off by half an inch on each image. My second attempt to print/cut the plumeria worked fine. I wish it behaved consistently so I know what works and what doesn't....

    • @LorrieNunemaker
      @LorrieNunemaker  Před 10 lety

      You should not have to adjust your paper on the grid. The registration marks should tell the Portrait exactly where to cut with no adjustment. If yours is not performing like that, you may need to calibrate your machine. In the Silhouette Studio Software....Go to file, calibration and print the calibration sheet and follow the prompts. It's pretty simple. I have never had to adjust my paper to get a correct cut, I simply load it on my mat and ask the software to detect registration marks... once it does, i'm good to go.

      LG1932 unfortunately this video is from 2012. I no longer make silhouette tutorials. But to do what you want you just need to upload the image then trace. Uncheck the high pass filter and turn up the threshold until the image is solid yellow. Then click the outline image. Turn on the cut lines. Turn on registration marks And send to printer then silhouette to cut. See my print then cut with silhouette video

    do you think a person is better off buying the Cameo or the Circut Air, I want to cut cardboard and leather. I know the Circut has size limitations but can't see to find out what they are. Any help is so welcomed, I need a machine and I'm all videoed out from watching so many of both. LOL :)

    • @LorrieNunemaker
      @LorrieNunemaker  Před 9 lety

      Theresa Daigle The Cricut Explore Air is much more precise and more powerful than the cameo. The only size restriction is for print then cut, which you wouldn't need to cut leather or chipboard. It can cut 12 x 24 with the large mat. It comes with a 12 x 12 mat. I never had much luck with the cameo cutting anything thicker than a thick cardstock and that wasn't even very clean.

    • @LorrieNunemaker
      @LorrieNunemaker  Před 10 lety

      My very first inclination would be that you chose load Media instead of load mat. 90% of the time that is the problem. Does your machine cut other images correctly? If so, I would bet you accidentally hit load media. I've done it myself more than once! :)

      choose to detect registration marks automatically
      did a test cut which came out around the square in top l corner
      and hit cut

    Hi Lorrie, I just wanted to mention here that v3.x of the software that came out last week is missing the calibration button! So just was I was about to calibrate my machine to fix the offset issue with pnc, I downloaded the new version and that feature is missing, murphy's law?! I told CS and they said they are working on fixing it and hope to release a new update this week I believe. I have another question that I think you know the answer to. When I print/cut certain pnc images bought from silhouette store, there is a thin white outline to each image. I think it's called printer bleed. I asked how to get rid of it and sihouette CS says I can't...silly. Do you know a way please? I don't like the white border around some images. Some have them, some don't I noticed. Thanks for all your help.

      I am sorry about that, I downloaded the V3 and it has so many bugs, I went back to the old version until they come out with an update to the update. I'm running the mac version, I can't even open the v3 software anymore

    • @LorrieNunemaker
      @LorrieNunemaker  Před 10 lety

      I just read the other part of your message. Sorry. To get rid of the white line around PNC images, I usually just do an internal offset and set it to just slightly inside the image. This gets rid of the bleed area. Make sure you turn the original cut line to off and turn on your new internal offset line.

I downloaded v2.x again too but since they updated/fixed some stuff on 4/16, I gave V3 another try. Can you believe that it's still missing calibration feature? :)

      Rene', I have a few other videos showing how to print and cut images from the SIlhouette Store, and I made a new one just today showing how to print and cut both the pnc files and the standard cut files from the SIlhouette Store. You can watch it here Silhouette Print & Cut Images from Silhouette Store PNC vs Standard Cut

      Lindsey Hessmiller Unfortunately this video is from December 2012. I know the software has changed tremendously since then. I no longer use the Cameo (I've switched to Cricut). I would recommend ScrappyDiva's youtube channel. She rocks the Silhouette

      +Lorrie Nunemaker, I know this video is old, but it helped me a great deal making some tees for my grandsons. However, do you have any advice or tutorial on how to take an actual Google colored image and put that on a tee, rather than using vinyl? I'm a loss, and so new. I've got the vinyl down (thanks to you), and there are some Star War images (personal use only) that I would like to use, but haven't a clue how. I just have a regular Ink Jet printer. Thank you for any advice.

    I can't do this I am doing something incorrectly in the steps. Now I have to leave for a basket ball game. If you could write the steps down I would be so grateful. Thank you
