  • The subject for this macro photography tutorial is a simple plain sheet of paper. Using some creative folding, bending and balancing, we can turn paper into interesting shapes. Add some lighting and these shapes become beautiful, colourful abstract images, worthy of a place on your wall (or desktop background!)
    In this macro photography tutorial, we will be using plain sheets of paper and colourful lighting to explore the world of creative abstract photography. Grab some paper of your own and follow along!

    As usual, Ben, you did outstanding!
    Maybe I missed it, but did you ever mention the maximum amount of arms that you used for your images? I can't tell if you used more than 3 because of the amazing color 'blending' that went on. It seems that you used 2 arms a lot of the time. Did you ever go hog-wild and use all 5?
    Wonderful stuff, yet again, fella!

    • @Adaptalux
      @Adaptalux  Před 4 lety +2

      Thanks Randy, I really enjoyed this one. I didn't go with the full 5 but not for any particular reason other than i thought 3 colours seemed to work well. You are right, most were done with 2 different colours, sometimes a 3rd went well to. No reason you couldn't go mad and use all 5 ports, all different colours etc. Might have to give that a go next time I try this!

      @@Adaptalux I was very pleased with my first attempt. I used a slightly elevated translucent cutting board to set the paper on, then placed a battery-powered LED light (about 6" square) underneath. I laid 3 different colored filters from my flash units on top of the LEDs to create a multicolored effect. Lens was a 24-105 f/4 with extension tubes. Worked good for me.

Can you adjust the light output coming from the rods individually? In the mean time I"ll use a flashlight and Lume Cube LED lights with colored gels. • @Adaptalux
      @Adaptalux  Před rokem

      For something like this I would recommend LED lighting, it's much easier to see your results as you go.

    Did you use colored lights or colored filters on the lighting arms??

    • @Adaptalux
      @Adaptalux  Před 4 lety

      Coloured arms. The filters would diffuse the light twice under the paper but might still work well.

  • @alanhill746
    @alanhill746 Před 4 lety +1

    Could the paper be cut in half it seems like it would be easier to stand up

    • @Adaptalux
      @Adaptalux  Před 4 lety

      It could but it would need to be a very straight cut to keep it all at the same height. It's not that hard to balance once bent an folded.

    hi can someone share all there settings? i am having trouble with the settings i think. thanks in advance

    • @Adaptalux
      @Adaptalux  Před 4 lety

      There's not really any fixed settings that will get you the best results. If you are having trouble, i'd go to aperture priority mode and set it to the widest your lens will allow. that will give you a really soft depth of field and the camera will decide the rest :)

    I'm so glad I've found your content @Adaptalux @Ben. I've been wondering which color lighting arms to start with once I purchase your product. Given how well this abstract project turned out I would love to give something like this a try since we're restricted to stay home. I think I'll limit myself to three color arms to stay within my budget. I wasn't sure how many arms you used for this video tutorial but I'm assuming based on the colors you had about three at a time max but I could be wrong. Any suggestions would help, Thank you!

    • @Adaptalux
      @Adaptalux  Před 4 lety

      I didn't use more than 3 here, you're right. The colours are all down to personal preference really but there are colour filters to consider too, might be worth getting 2 white arms and 2 colours so you can use filters on the white arms for a different effect and colour. That would be a good starting point for a Combo Pack.

    • @jalladin
      @jalladin Před 4 lety

      @@Adaptalux Excellent idea! I wasn't thinking of the filters as an alternative to having a bunch of color light arms. Thanks so much!

    • @Adaptalux
      @Adaptalux  Před 4 lety

      They do provide different effects, the arms are much more vivid, but if you want a nice soft diffused wash, the filters are the way to go. Usually having the choose between them is handy!
