    I think the song lyrics matching to how they felt when Woojin left is coincidental. They had already announced Levanter as their title track before he departed (Double Knot was a pre-release song and, as others have commented, Woojin's last with the group). Woojin left end of October and this was scheduled to be released end of November. They had to push back the comeback date a couple of weeks as they had to rerecord and readjust their choreo (and promotions). Although, it is entirely possible they rewrote some of the lines when they recorded the bits he was a part of. Woojin was also a part of the Astronaut shoot (another pre-release song) but he left the group before the MV was released so he was edited out. The MV for Levanter was shot after Woojin left.
    Skz won a music show win with Levanter, which was very unexpected. Their managers actually filmed their reaction when they found out and it's just so special. These guys really had no clue how Stays would react to them continuing as 8. Rewatching material during this time, you do get a sense of melancholy. Jisung took a mini-hiatus during promotions. I imagine this win lifted some of that anxiety off their shoulders.
    What I love about this song is that it's very final. They've finished the first era of Stray Kids and they're literally walking through the doors heading toward their next era, more uncertain than they ever could have predicted. It's why we got references to Hellevater, My Pace, Side Effects, Double Knot, and probs others I can't think of. Even though Woojin wasn't a part of this comeback, it feels like a fitting way to end their time as 9. I love how hopeful this video is. God's Menu was their next comeback and it ushered in a whole new era for them. They found their sound and their identity as artists. I dunno. Levanter was so perfect.

      I agree, in hindsight, the lyrics can be taken within the context of him leaving, but at the time, he had already recorded singing for the song and they did have to re-record. I think the lyrics were just the natural progression of where they wanted to take the Cle series. Who knows what the members think, if they think now that perhaps in hindsight it fits that perfectly, or if they prefer to think of it as coincidence.

      @RedheadReacts  Před rokem +4

      I understand that the lyrics and the song itself was written about something else and before he left, but I was moreso referring to the video and some decisions that were made visually and in the choreography for those particular lyrics.
      Kind of similar to BTS and Spring Day. The song itself wasn't written about the Sewol Tragedy, but there were references in the music video to it.

      @@RedheadReacts perhaps! I’m not familiar with BTS so I don’t understand the reference there. But given how far along they were with this release (about to film the MV), I’d think the choreo was pretty much settled. Obviously they had to rework it for 8 and I’m sure elements of it changed but since they pushed this comeback back only two weeks, I don’t think they’d scrap it completely. But I honestly have no clue how that would work so maybe it was a completely different choreo then what it was with 9.🤷🏼‍♀️ I do think the video we saw was stylistically different than what was initially planned, although I’m sure the storyline was the same. All we can really do is speculate!

    I have a theory on how Astronaut fits in the story line. If you remember, in Double Knot there was a billboard with Astronaut on it. The entire video for Astronaut has references to all the old videos.
    It starts with them on a rooftop on a merry go round. This hearkens back to I Am You where they are setting up a base & having fun together. They had the lights, and the monkey bars, and a merry go round in that. Soon you see Chan wander/glitch away to the building access. Soon after you see a orb/speaker making static. Hyunjin notices this, but none of the others do. He hears Chan's voice, but looks back & sees Chan on the merry go round with the others. He then leaves to search for Chan & leaves the others behind. As Hyunjin looks, you see the others following in a lighthearted manner...Hyunjin included in that group. So you realize they are alternate members. Possibly the ones who got on the bus in Side Effects.
    As Hyunjin searches, he runs into many things that recall the old MVs. The boxes are glitching the maze that was in Miroh. When those are knocked down, you see Felix & Changbin....Who aren't behaving normally. Felix is like he was at the beginning of Miroh with the pose & the glitches behind him. Changbin, on the other hand, seems frozen in a pose that we only got to see in the album trailer for I Am Not. He's in the pose & almost the same expression as when he was in the room of monitors seeing himself with a fake smile in them. Again, Hyunjin hears Chan & rushes past them, only to get startled by the convoy jeep from Side Effects glitching in & out. When he makes it past that, he sees members in a cage reminiscent of the one they built in District 9. He looks for a way in, but they are unmoving. When he hears Chan yet again & leaves, we see I.N reach his hand up & watch him go. (I have a theory that this was the original I.N. He had gotten replaced at the very start of the whole series in the I Am Not trailer when he got off the bus to follow his doppelganger. Which is why I.N has always been the glitch. He always seems slightly out of sync with the others. He always seems to know something the others don't. He always seems slightly sad, even if the others aren't.)
    Before Hyunjin reaches Chan, you see Felix standing in front of a door that is open with light spilling out. Yet when Hyunjin reaches Chan, Chan is in front of a closed door. So we don't know where those two are, or where they go. Back with Felix's door, the others have joined them. They all go through it & into a bright roof. They seem to shoot a beacon into the air (Kinda like when they shot a flare into the sky in Victory Song) and I do believe they make it to space. I think this is the set that makes it to the space station that is in TOP.
    At the end, you see I.N catch up to the night time rooftop. He is alone. I don't know if he manages to catch up to Hyunjin & Chan, but I believe this is the original I.N trying to reach his members. There are still two moons.
    Levanter happens shortly after this. That will require it's own analysis.(I'm gonna reply to myself for that, because this post is long enough) But the next step in the story is the Prequel Highlight Reel. Before Gods Menu.

    • @GolyenHighway
      @GolyenHighway Před rokem +2

      Ok. Levanter. Let's start.
      In the trailer where the members are split in two groups crossing a street you see I.N, Hyunjin, Changbin, and Lee Know in one, and Chan, Felix, Seungmin, and Han in the other. I think this is an important grouping. Chan is the leader & Key-keeper. Felix is the navigator. Seungmin is the cartographer. And Han is the motivator. In the other group, I.N is still the glitch. Hyunjin is the way-finder. Lee Know is the support. And Changbin is the drive. When they meet in the middle, you see everyone except I.N reel from the ringing that happens. I believe this is because as The Glitch, I.N is reacting to the presence of the door. You see it form after they gather around Felix & his broken compass to figure out where to go.
      In the other teaser 1, you see the members in groups or by themselves. And this is where it actually gets confusing. What happens to them is in the other trailer as well. BUT things that happen in it ALSO have relevance to Scars. (Which came out a whole 2 years later.) In Levanter, there is a pyramid of light that breaks down. In Scars a inverted pyramid forms at the end of the video. It also has Han in the center of the group reaching to the light as it fades. In Levanter, Han is by himself when he reaches up (In almost the same pose) & is trapped in a circle of light. (almost like a pillar) In Levanter, Lee Know holds up a jar of yellow lights. In Scars they find fireflies that are the same color as the jar lights from Levanter. In Scars, there is a shooting star that is reflected in I.N's eyes briefly. And in Levanter there are shooting stars that are reflected in Lee Know's eyes.
      Ok. On with the MV.
      It starts with the door forming. Not the elevator. There have been doors in almost all the other MVs, and mostly they were ignored till Double Knot. Before that, it was always keys, and elevators that were important. When you look through the keyhole, you see the purple field that had originally been seen at the end of Hellevator. There are already members there living in peace. They wear light & neutral colors. Then it flashes to the members in the world looking through. They are separated. And they are finding things that they used to think led to a better place/future. But everything is destroyed, damaged or broken. (the tunnel from My Pace, the elevator from multiple MVs, the ticket for the bus in Side Effects) Felix seems to find himself in a liminal space alone & in control of a compass. Changbin does choreography that is from Mirror with Hyunjin. They slowly start burning what they had once thought would lead them to the future. The members in the purple field see the light pyramid come down & the door form. When they leave through the door into the normal world, you see I.N hesitate. (I have a theory that he was looking for the real I.N who was following. But I believe that I.N followed the Astronaut members into TOP. In that video, he was again not seen by the others. And in the end, they ALL walked into light.) When They go through the door, the Felix who was in the liminal space said it was all good. Then we get the ending with them seeming to be at peace till the two moons merged.
      And that leads to Gods Menu. And you need to watch the Prequel. czcams.com/video/9pFLO3g6CSg/video.html

    Ooh, yay! Levanter is another one of my all time favourites. Along with Double Knot from this album too. The fact this song was written before WJ left, but then released after and it still fits their journey perfectly. Such a beautiful song, and the English version is actually gorgeous! It's a very rare case of an English version as good or better than the Korean version. For me anyway. I have both on my playlist.

    I adore “Levanter.” I still remember how the first time I heard it, Lee Know’s falsetto bowled me over. Plus Felix’s start to the dance break is 🤌🏻.
    It’s tempting to think “Levanter” is about the member who left, but from what I understand, he left very soon before their comeback, forcing it back by a month. They had to rearrange all their choreography, redistribute and record lines, edit MVs and re-shoot one of the MVs (not sure which one off the top of my head). Now, did they add in lines or whatnot in the interim in reference to him? Who knows? It’s definitely food for thought.

  • @Selande3
    @Selande3 Před rokem

    My take on Levanter (song itself, not thinking of Woojin leaving), is it's relation to the first albums. In the first Cle album, Miroh, they left I am You and wanted to enter the city/jungle to now find themselves. In the second, they decided to take the road not taken and went into Yellow Wood, but Side Effects happened (during Kingdom they said that Side effects is about being dominated/controlled by others). Levanter, the east wind, came in and basically cleared their minds - they saw how they were effected in Yellow Wood and decided to leave, to go back to their own world (cept I.N, who is basically not in the right world at all). So they threw off the hands that controlled them and saw that once they did so, their own wings were there and were able to fly on their own without the other's "help". I think it's a very freeing song, freeing your mind and spirit and becoming who you are meant to be, as dictated by yourself, not anyone else.

    Thank you so much for your reaction to the trailer and the mv, I really liked it. Recognized the face of awe when you hear Lee Know's falsetto is always a good reaction and he did so wonderfully in Levanter! This album and song had to grow on me, but it definitely has a top spot for certain melancholic moods.
    I love Astronaut as a song, its just something I would need to get myself off my couch when I would go clean, for example haha.
    I wasn't a stay at the time, so I'm gonna refrain from comments about Woojin 😬
    What I do want to ask or suggest, is when you get to Go Live (with God's Menu), don't forget to watch the Prequel they released as an explanation of their storyline. I can't remember if you watched the album trailer for Go Live already, but you should watch the album trailer first and then the Prequel.
