If I had a dog that I drove far away, threw them a ball, and they were able to find their way back to my house every time, I'd have one of the coolest dogs ever. I'd probably make them an instagram star.

You would have to understand the heart of evil. If he did either of those things, then the dog would have people who love him and want to take care of him. People who are there for him. People who want him to survive. The intention is to treat the dog like the dog doesn't deserve that.
Why?
Human nature has it that one is too willfully stupid to admit that they are the one who doesn't deserve that.
