- The shortage of water in some parts of the world is one of the greatest risks of our time.
And the battle to secure supplies of the most vital life-giving commodoties is political, environmental and economic.
The UN says there's an abundance of fresh water but that it's unevenly distributed around the world - and supplies are under increasing pressure.
Such as in Cape Town, where around four million South Africans are running dry.
But what's being done to confront the crisis which affects at least one billion people around the globe?
And what's caused the crisis in the first place?

No mention of privatization of water.
They dont want to scare off their corporate ad money
It’s such a big thing like the climate that they mention to slow down the decline of everything would require worldwide change.
They would not only have to stop all companies that bottle water whether that be for water it’s or soft drinks that is on major thing slowing the production rather than an outright ban would also slow plastic production.
They also mentioned agriculture where mega amounts of water is used to not only grow vegetables but rather than eat them they feed animals that also drink water.
Not to mention removing the rainforest that literally make it rain to dry more land for farming. Bringing rainforests back closer to people will bring the rain to the land in and around the forests making streams and aqua deposits all around fill back up. There is no bigger system than the rain and no more important.
Control population, but people are not taking this seriously, especially in areas where is water shortage.
John Feld I post many times on LinkedIn regarding why the ‘experts’ do not mention population growth. Population growth is not sustainable. Climate change, not looking after water, etc, but never is over population discussed.

@@chicken3015 since we have desalination there is no need for us to limit the number of children women can have
using treated sewage for drinking water is going to end badly...only takes one accident to cause an epidemic.
Population growth means greater and greater demand for water. All mentioned methods , i.e., conservation are certainly necessary, but ignoring greater demand due to population overload will not solve the problem. All methods are necessary. Desalination certainly is effective where possible.
Desalination requires huge amounts of energy, a 25% increase in whatever energy has been used. The highly salty runoff cannot simply be dumped into the ocean or anywhere, it must be "filtered" back in as it will kill life.
The Coke cola plant in India uses a lot of the underground water that Farmers rely on
The weird thing is that some clips they just leave a tap running for no other reason except for a single five second clip which could make a child with no water supply normally hydrated for a day just a day could help them live a little bit more i just think thats very annoying
sorry to be offtopic but does any of you know a tool to log back into an Instagram account??
I somehow forgot my account password. I love any assistance you can give me.
@Forest Kingston instablaster =)
@Kamden Cristiano I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and I'm in the hacking process now.
Takes a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
@Kamden Cristiano it did the trick and I finally got access to my account again. Im so happy!
Thank you so much you really help me out !
@Forest Kingston Happy to help :D
I bought a pair of rain boots last night on Amazon, they should arrive tomorrow with free two day shipping.
Battle for land, water, air. What is next?
All their solutions are temporary at best. Only real solution that no one talks about is we need to reduce human population and increase vegetation cover on the land then the problem fixes its self. Plants and trees can store large amounts of water in the land. Blessings all life.
I can’t take imagine this but looking at the Hoover dam now really has me worried
Something similar has been going on in S.America where growers of avocados, grown mainly for export, have been ensured of a supply of water while
the local communities surrounding the farms have been denied fresh water, and a river which on which the communities relied has just dried up.
UK could become rich , by storing rain water , and selling it.

It comes from underground aqueducts filtered through the rocks..
My mouth tells me which one is good..and the bottle tells where it's sourced..
I don't drink tap water it's recycled sewage laden with chloride
I think one of the problems is capitalism...even aside from people's usage...there is a whole sea worth of water on store shelves...tied up in sodas, bleach, detergents, canned goods, fruit juices, etc... All those products are mostly water..but its water that remains "outside" of the system (can't be used by plants or the earth) until the containers are emptied. Additionally our infrastructure requires a lot of water to fill void spaces...it is very convenient to have water when you turn on the tap, but that requires water in all the pipes between the faucet and the well are full of water (and under pressure)--again another sea of water is being held in the pipes of cities and towns...so yeah the water table is lowering..but that is because A LOT of water is "outside" of the earth-system.
Marquese Dillinger
WOW some way to think it's time to see that the little things ad up to huge problems!
I totally agree. The production, packaging and distribution of bottle alone is the most ridiculous thing ever. This is a different story if you live in part of the world that do not yet have the infrastructure to provide households with clean and safe water. But for the most part, it should be illegal to sell bottled water in countries that have clean water sent directly to every single tap in your home. Additional filtering can be done simply with activated charcoal. Im also pretty sure that most of these countries also use the same clean water for the toilet... what a waste.
if you live in India and you and other people feel compelled enough, distill ocean water by catching and letting the steam condense into droplets and flow into a reservoir and make an aquaduct to supply regions with water. use manure candles or something to boil multiple containers of water pumped mechanically from the ocean using medieval europe-style wooden windmills to refill the containers when they become 1/10 of the way full using a float lever to open and close a small floodgate to allow and stop water flow.
maybe use watermills in the aquaduct system to generate electricity at various locations as an added bonus to the infrastructure.
Los angeles has easy access to an ocean full of water at shorelines within their county borders. they could be desalinating from the ocean and never run short of producing their own water for their population. With these things in mind and their water grabbing history it only seems just and fair to prohibit Los Angeles in diverting water from any natural lakes streams channels or aquafers that would be healthy and full if not for their diversions. Additionally no more houses need to be built in California because of our water system can only support so many persons our population growth needs to be less than zero for us to have any hope for a sustainable healthy life for future generations.
Also ban corporations from owning public water. I.e. Nestle
water scarcity is almost every where
Any ‘experts’ out there want to predict what will happen when the world population reaches 10 billion?
When is population growth going to get some attention?
Massive floods in the lower Midwest just weeks ago causing $billions in damage should be re-routed and sent West to dry areas like Color. River
I'm betting that in 100 years this planet will be wired and plumbed like a house.
"Tank Girl" redux?
In India with huge population and even increasing rapidly, 90pct of cities are with severe water crisis. Govt allows pumping out water even from 400m deep groundwater for all use mindlessly.

In the last several years, we had water shortage and the residents were restricted from water usage in So Cal. What Mr. Garcetti is not saying here is that farmers had no such restriction and it counts as 80% of the statewide water usage. What the farmers produce are sold to the world market, so it has little or no effect on the local economy or living standard of local residents. It's all about the profit for the farmers.
Many places are seeing the water shortage crisis while other places are having yearly record breaking floods such as India and Pakistan.
We haven't even seen the beginning of the real damaging part of the climate change.
It's not climate change..
It's greed..you eat in restaurants and take outs that import herbs and salads from Mexico that aren't cooked..no one checks the filthy water supply in those places..
Farmers drink bottled water... $€¢¥£
Contracted Ca urban and ag water is being allowed to run straight to the ocean through the SF delta. For the last 2 years, 2021 & 2022 SoCal’s water supply from the north has been cut to 5% by the Dept Water Resources. You are paying for 95% of contracted State Water Project (SWP) water that you don’t receive in SoCal. Ca ag loses 45k acres of irrigated acres/year because of urban, commercial growth and from water contracts being sold to urban interests.

Posting the original article would help.
As far as we know, we are using the same amount of water as the last year.
@@allgoo1990, that is probably true. Did you water payment stay the same? If your local water district is a sub contractor with Metropolitan Water District (MWD), a portion, maybe a small portion, of your 2022 water bill also pays for 95% of water not received from the State Water Project (SWP) system. MWD must pay for their entire contract every year, even if they only receive 5%. MWD also has several other water sources. The Colorado River, Owens Valley, local groundwater and several banking projects in the San Joaquin Valley, etc.

We have even bigger problem.
We don't pay water bill but association does,(part of our association due), regardless of the usage.
We live in condominium and some units are so overcrowded, yo can guess the reason.
We had fatal fire in 2015 and found that unit was occupied by 17 people in 3 bedroom unit.
Typical toilet uses 4 gallon of water per flush, average person flushes 6 times a day.
You do the math.Soon after that incident, the city officials voted for the preventive measure for not repeating it in the future.
It was approved unanimously(meaning without no vote)but it was disappeared suddenly and never imposed nor enforced.
There is a dictator in our city who gets paid by our property management company.(our property management company loves status cuo, and has a strong tie with the city, for example, we have an overnight parking program, which is supposed to be run by the association and the city, the association collects the money but nobody enforcing it.)
I should tell you that all our city officials are conservtive.

There is a man in Detroit named Moses Allen that invented a machine that creates water out of air.
How fertilizer and pesticide cause water shortage?
It causes water contamination of the toxins so it is no longer viable to just drink it. Like with an water is has to be cleaned first but when factories pump out toxic waste into flowing rivers, people who use that water for everything from cleaning, cooking, washing, agriculture etc. it becomes a problem. This usually happens in poorer countries where this kind of work has been outsourced to and usually dont have the infrastructure to clean is for their own citizens. So we need to hold the companies that do this accountable. So to answer your question they dont, but water is a necessity so contaminating water supplies is basically indirect murder.
@@jodieho1429 This happens in the USA also. Run off from large farms, poor septic systems, street pollution and more all contribute to dirty water. Poor communities don't have the financial resources to purify this water properly.

First World problems.
manhoosnick. I’d say anything supersized is a first world problem....
Too many people. We all know this is the only problem.
Everyone is saying the same thing - give up meat and dairy and you'll be
part of the solution rather than part of the problem. A meat based
diet uses at least 20 times more water than a plant based diet. Most
people know this but are too stubborn, selfish and egotistical to
change. People hate feeling they're being dictated too, even tho
they're not. It's simply common sense. People say they want a future
for their children but fail to put their money where there mouth is.
It's very simple. Go vegan, live at least 10 years longer and you'll be
in less trouble with the Gods when you die too. Do it!
what if the gods are a superstitious control method? why don't they blame it on human population growth instead? what if hunting for food delivered more food than not hunting for food? maybe it's more complex than anyone can blame anyone for? what if it's just life? every cause is a sham unless it makes more sense because the goal causes life to be easier. we are a bunch of organisms that eat organisms and we learn somatically by experience. at least someone or something is going to blame us for some way that we are different than their ideal way of life and if you give an inch they'll take a mile. until everything in the supermarkets are cheap enough to eat differently I will probably have some meat in my diet. what would your ancestors tell you if you told them to stop eating meat? do you think that they would grow a heart and starve? having compassion comes with learning standards by experiencing a better life which is abundant enough to allow standards to be expected enough to empathize based on those standards experienced and expected.
experience the joys of living while alive because someday hopefully not anytime soon you, me and everyone else will be giving other plants the energy to thrive which will feed other animals and allow them to thrive.
Hog Wash! too many Humans now. Stop making all those Babies that make Babies that make Babies! You have over Populated the Earth!
There is plenty of water in the Ocean, Start using it! The Pacific Islanders will thank you as they are loosing land to the rising Sea Levels.
Although there’s nothing wrong with a healthy plant based diet everyone going vegan may be radical thinking from where we are now. Reducing Western meat consumption is likely the most reasonable solution to impede water shortage. Especially beef. Americans eat 3x more meat than the rest of the world. It also takes 4x more water to make 1lb of beef opposed to 1lb of chicken and 10x more water per 1lb of wheat... Western world must reduce our excessive meat consumption. A vegetarian’s water footprint is 1/3 less than that of someone who eats an average American diet.

it's not good for the environment and it's more expensive. we have few in CA but use it as a last resort because it literally pushes dumb back out into the ocean causing oxygen levels to fall and effectively killing sea life & coral reefs
