- Today I am sharing how to create a completely no-sew junk journal from start to finish. I hope you love it!
For some reason when I uploaded the video, the floral image on the front of the book looks like it has strange lines on it... probably because it is a slightly striped paper and the camera was distorting it. I hope you can just pretend that it isn't there! I am still learning my tech skills

Lovely idea. This video sparked an idea for me to put my husbands love letters, notes, cards, and dried petals from roses he gave me over the years, etc...he is deceased. I have all these things in my cedar chest. I think this would make a lovely remembrance of our life together.
That’s a beautiful idea ❤️🤗
What a beautiful way to remember his love for you.
A blessed beautiful love story in a book. Hugs, love the way you honor him
Heart melting ♥️
Im sorry I am responding so late to this.. I think that is such a beautiful idea 💙💙💙
Thank you for making it easy to create a junk journal without having it complicated and pricey!
I really like the way you can slip smaller pages in between, loved watching this and it turned out beautifully…it’s definitely a style I like. These journals feel so tactile and inviting compared to a super sleek new book.
Instead of a notebook, I re-purpose a Priority Mail thin shipping cardboard, or a thin cardboard label sleeve, or 2 thick post cards as my book front/back. The spine can be duck tape or even painter's tape bc you're covering it with fabric or paper. I have also used Washi Tape to make the spine a visual feature of the cover.
Your ribbon binding was a great idea! I'm going to use that! 🙂
I have made many journals but I love this one. Not complicated and some days it is exactly what I what I like to do.
I just found this video and really appreciate this as a frustrated newbie! You made it so simple! Much appreciated!
This is an incredible ‘first’ junk journal introduction for new journalers! Love the process…
Just what I needed to get started, an easier way to put the pages and cover together, . I'm excited to get started. I've watched lots of your videos and am in love with your journals, love the feminine touches of lace , ribbon, trinkets. I do crochet and card making, but since watching your videos, they have taken a back seat entirely, .Heather we seem to have the same taste of soft, feminine prettiness, that's the only way I can describe your style that we share, keep filming your work it's so motivating . One day Heather, could you show us you're craft room, I have a terrible time trying to keep it organised, but only if you want to share this with your community here on CZcams, stay safe x
Love this journal idea! To get your ribbon through the holes..a good, old, fashion, crochet hook!
This is actually a great idea to bind the pages together, punching holes and then binding it together with a ribbon. And also sliding in smaller pages ... Thanks
Phew! You don’t know how happy I was to bump into this video! I was experimenting these past few days on how to do this. So many ways, so much getting myself confused that by the time I had my supplies in front of me I was about to make it a “junk journal” literally, if you know what I mean😂. I just wanted a simple, easy, creative way to motivate me more, and holy guacamole you did that for me😅 So my creativity will soon make a mark on some journals soon. And I’m feeling very confident to say I don’t see another “junk” journal in the future👍🏽🤪🤣
Thank you for sharing your absolutely beautiful journal and how to make one!
That is such a neat idea to add in shorter book pages after you’ve binded the book. I love it ❤️
Yes, you are correct. There are most days, lol I turn my phone off and just make my beautiful junk joirnals too...to keep me sane. I suffer from PTSD and anxiety. I feel great when I create❤❤❤❤❤❤
What a pretty journal- I love all of the blues. Thanks for sharing
I first saw this method of binding a few months ago and now its 90% of what I do.!! Love it. Oh and the kitty... perfect addition to the video.
Great idea for a junk journal, really like that you can add smaller pages.. thank you for sharing, I’m going to make one of these.
The papers are sewn in and the two pages are connected. I go to the middle and unsew them and use them as double pages for my journals. But gosh, I never thought about making a journal out of the cover!!!! This is awesome!
I love the simple construction of this art journal. I’ve watched it twice, but intend to watch it again…so here’s my 🤍🤍🤍 3 thumbs up 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😘
I found you today in my recommended videos and I'm so happy! I love this journal and using the composition notebook in this way is brilliant! It's one of those "why didn't I think of that" ideas I can't wait to get started on one .. you are so fun and inspiring! Thank you for sharing! 😍❤
Someone probably already commented this, but it's an awl, and pronounced ALL. ;) Nice work. I'll be using some of these ideas. Thanks for sharing them. ♥
I love the simplicity of this journal for a quick enjoyable project. Thanks Great instructions
Fun, pretty blue journal! TFS the inspiration!
It is always fun to watch someone create a journal. What I like about yours is there really aren’t any rules. You just do what you love !
Just started making junk journals-yours are nice for beginners. TY
So simple. So cute!

Very cute and fun project! And as a gift! Who wouldn't love receiving this beauty!!
Heather, I just love this and the colors! I must have watched 3 times just for the pure enjoyment of seeing theses beautiful papers you chose and the cover. TFS.
So easy yet so thought through. I will try one as soon as I can get a note book. Thank you for sharing.
I am obsessed with composition notebooks. Talking about dotted Swiss fabric, I made my sister a dress for my wedding in the early 70’s. Thank you for sharing.
I like this method of binding👍🏽 Thanks for the tutorial!
This is so pretty and a good way to use special pieces that mean so much to the maker. Love that blue wallpaper and the abc floral book.
Thank you for this wonderful lovely idea. 😊
I absolutely love this, I'll make one n ow, since I've ever never made this kind of journal before, I have been collecting bits of things that would be perfect,,, what a great idea ,,, it inspired me to start, thankyou xo
Love this idea for a junk journal. I’m new to making junk journals and really nervous about sewing but this seems simple enough.
I can actually execute your projects!!!! Sometimes projects can be just to hard but yours are so doable!!! (Especially for a beginner) Thanks for that!!! You're a great teacher as well!!!!
i just keep coming back everyday to look at your beautiful journals. i thank you for being my secret mentor...
Hi Tammy, that is the nicest compliment... I am so happy that you are finding some joy and inspiration! 🥰❤❤❤
Thank you Heather I really loved this idea, I can’t wait to try it ❤
i ❤ this. and you pair items together beautifully
Thank you so so much for doing this!! I am a beginner, and it helped me so much to see this step by step. I love, love your style! I would appreciate it so much if you would do more of these!!❤
Hi Heather, I just recently found you thanks to Sue at Paper Inspirations, and I really like how you just jump in and do it without measuring or fussing! I think people get all twisted in knots trying to do it "right" instead of having fun, and I can really tell by looking at your journals that you're definitely having fun. I also love how much you use book pages, because I love book pages. There's just so many gorgeous fonts and typography and creamy papers, and then I love that linen paper that you're using, that is a new thing to me and I love how it looks and feels, I just didn't realize you could get printer paper like that! I watched your more recent video about your favorite papers to print on and that was really helpful and useful, even though I just have a regular ol' inkjet. I hope one day to grow up and get an EcoTank! Anyway, thanks for being here, I love your work!!
Thank you.. what a great journal for a beginner like me. I thought I was going to have to spend a fortune on papers etc... but you have made this project cost effective. 😁🥰💜
Defiantly like the idea of using a hole punch to do ribbon going to give that a try.
Ooohhh … we’re going to St John in a few weeks. I think I’ll make these for the girls to add vacation ephemera in, and record our memories. ☺️
I just happened to be on the lookout for a simple journal to make as a birthday gift for a dear friend. Bingo!! Love this and can't wait to get started!!!
You have awesome video's. Thank You It's a cold windy rainy day and I needed your cheery inspiration to get me started. Love this beautiful little journal. ❤❤
Another beginner here. I want to make one like this. I am a sewer and even tho this is a " no sew" project I can see places to sew instead of glue. Your wallpaper pieces are so pretty and the white trim pared with cream is so lovely. Your step-by-step instructions are very helpful. Beautifully done!! New subscriber.
Great video for newbies like me, thanks for sharing 🥰🙏
I love the simplicity of this journal and all the beautiful layering...🌷
I like how you share your thought process as you create. THANKS!
Heather, thank you so much for sharing this. I love your journals and you do great directions.
I love the colors of this journal and the cover treatment is so beautiful. Very inspiring 🤗
I wish I had seen this years ago when I was first learning how to make a journal. Really takes off the pressure of perfection. Thanks!!
Thank You so much for sharing this step by step. I loved everything, especially the little flips, tags and lace, making it so special.
I loved watching and learning from you💕🌺🌸 your Journal “Art” is so so beautiful
I am new to junk journaling..watching,YT tutorials for months!! This tutorial fabulous..simple and beautiful..truly remarkable..So many journals overstuffed, overdecorated..just too much..I can't tell you enough how I enjoyed this idea and your style..Thank you very much !!!
This is a great project. Love this idea.
Gorgeous, love that you kept it simple and elegant.
I have been watching many of your videos. I really like your style! I decided I needed to get some lace. I went to hobby lobby and nothing stood out for me. I wanted to find a bag of lace and went to a thrift store. I couldn’t believe the first place I looked had a pretty good size bag of lace! I went a couple of weeks ago but I wasn’t looking for lace. The bag had 15-20 sizes. It made my day! Journal on. My middle name is Rene too!
What an awesome little beginning project. I love your style and thoughtfulness
this was an awesome video....thank you for sharing it with us. You made that look so easy and fun-also you gave a lot of great ideas that I never even thought about doing.

Grew up wearing dotted Swiss and made daughters dresses with it. Beautiful book and love your style of comfortable teaching🙌🙌
This was absolutely, hands down, the best tutorial I've seen. I can't wait to try it. Super beginner friendly and not intimidating at all. Thank you!!!
WOW! That was an amazing transition from a black and white composition notebook to a BEAUTIFUL journal, just full of beautiful elements! Love it. Always love your style!
Thanks Mom! I'm so glad you liked it!! 💜💜💜
Love love your idea! So beautiful and hand made. No sewing is a plus! Thank you for sharing❤
Loved this video ‼️
Easy and Fun
No stress for beginners ❤
Hi Heather, I have to say a couple of thoughts...lol. I knew you would fix the paper. I think it shows that does happen and is easy to take a second to redo. The idea of keeping the papers untied till the end great. I just went to a Thrift store today and found a few items in blue. 🤣I wish I could see more of your cat🥰 I think I would keep this as a loose journal. I find my journals get changed around and that would be easy to tie the ribbon and not glue down. I am now called a journal collector. I was asked what do I do when my journal is finished.??? I had to think about that question...I explained that my journals are never finished. EXAMPLE I bought a journal from Germany. The theme was the Poppy flower. I find Poppies everywhere and they go in that journal. 🥰I never write in a journal I just enjoy playing and taking them around and showing them off🥰 I love seeing the Thrift ladies faces light up when they remember a garment they thought I could use and then the journal has the thrifted item as the cover. I wonder do you ever go back and have a show and tell???? It is so much fun. 🤣Laura
Excellent beginner video for journal making. So pretty and super easy. One thing I will do is for the inside covers is make pockets for keeping postcards extra paper. It will finish off the journal nicely. Outside of that 5 ⭐️ review.❤️
Thank you so much for this video. I'm wanting to make a junk journal and this perfect to make my first one. ❤️
Very pretty! Thanks for the inspiration.
I absolutely ❤️❤️❤️ this! The cover is outstanding … my favorite color is blue also so this speaks to me. The ribbon binding is quick and simple especially for a first journal which I’ve been wanting to do for 3 years now and am inspired to make one like this. So many applications are flowing in my mind. The first will be a journal using fabrics / ribbons from my son’s wedding on the cover. I want the inside to have side pockets and tucks; as well as belly bands. I hope they will use it to keep the cards they received as well as then a picture from the celebration of those who gifted the cards. Thanks for your inspiration and tutorial.
Heather your no-sew junk journal made with one sheet of paper got me to decide to try making these, but the finished size was too small for my needs. Then I found this video and fell in love! I love with the idea of using a composition book because it shouldn't fan out due to the rounded spine! Thank you!
Simple, elegant feminine, and a unique journal.
Great beginners journal and I love all the blues in it! Beautifully done! 💙💙💙
Wow absolutely beautiful
Beautiful. Great tutorial Heather. I can’t wait to see more videos from you. C
This is just so pretty. Just up my street - no sewing! Thank you😊
This is one of the best journals! It turned out fantastic. Thanks for sharing.
This is so lovely, thank you for sharing!
Love this, I agree with how you have to make your own sunshine, and my craft room does that for me, lots of paper and glues to create with, awesome. Thank you great video. Xx😁🧡
That is beautiful and very easy. Thank you so much. I like your laid back , no measure style. Simple.
I’m so excited that your channel popped up on my feed. I’m new to junk journaling and this is perfect for a beginner. Thank you so much for sharing.
This is so beautiful! I love it.
Thank you so much, I have been so scared to start my first journal. With your teaching I am going to get started. Blessings I send from the bottom of my heart.

This is absolutely beautiful!! Thank you for showing your process and making it easy for beginners like me!
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I really LOVE the look of this journal. I’m horrible at cutting straight lol so this will be perfect for me to create. Loooove the teared edges. I will definitely enjoy making one.
This is awesome! I’m brand new to this so I love easy ideas!
Love love love this!!! Love your style!
Wow, simple and thorough. Thanks!! As someone who has sewn (I designed and sewed custom slipcovers for my loveseat and chair in the late 90's), but cannot seem to conquer sewing on paper for whatever reason, I appreciate your method.
I totally did enjoy this tutorial,it was easy to follow along with you . This is perfect for anyone ,because you can basically find stuff around the house to work with . All you need to purchase is the composition book and punch. You can get those at a dollar store ! I have a huge box of stuff I’ve been saving to make a junk journal , but I don’t like sewing lol. This is perfect ! Thank you so much for doing this tutorial, the time flew by ! Looking forward to to watching more of your videos! 🌷💐🌸
I used the Comp book today for 3 signatures and it works really well. Thanks for sharing!
