While my age peers were venerating the Beatles and, if they were cool, the Stones, my hero was Peter Nero. I'd play along with his records trying, unsuccessfull, to play what he was doing. I never achieved Nero status but I fully credit him with having given me far more useful "piano lessons" than provided by any piano teacher. And yes, I was a busy wedding and bar--mitzvah pianist in New York having played 2,000 gigs before I was 20.

Dennis Caracciolo25 seconds ago (edited)I have nominated Peter Nero for a Lincoln Kennedy Center lifetime achievement award. It's high time this honor be bestowed upon Mr. Nero. May I recommend that all of you do the same and maybe we will one day soon see this deserved honor go to Peter.

My parents and I used to watch Peter Nero play on TV back in the 60s,He is an extremely accomplished pianist and musician.I like how he can apply jazz and classical in the one song. The music was very structured but also there was plenty of room created for improvisation. This was particularly evident in the 2nd recording with the Boston Pops.

I’ve been listening to this album since I was little. The album belonged to my mom. Wore out two of these records. Haven’t heard it for a very very long time. When I discovered again, It was like coming home. Thank you Mr Nero you are a wonder on the piano🥰🥰🥰

This man's version of "The Man I Love" has been a wonderful part of my consciousness since I was a kid exposed to my parents records. It is only of late that I realize the calibre of music I was listening to. One of the piano greats!

I hope Marc-Andre respects this amazing pianist! I always thought he was Canadian for some reason. I listened to him when I was a teenager many decades ago. Wonderful!

While all of Peter Nero's recordings are polished, there are 3 that I particularly treasure:
    - "In Person" with just Peter, bass and drums. Sometimes the orchestrated arrangements on other albums can sound too commercial. Nero's technique, musicianship, and cleverness in inserting classical quotes (brilliantly played) are better displayed by just a trio.
    - the album with Fiedler/Boston Pops performing his own excellent "Fantasy & Improvisations."
    - Having grown up in the Philadelphia area, the 1980 Philly Pops album celebrating the Phillies' then-rare World Series championship with the late, great pitcher Tug McGraw (Tim's father) narrating "Casey at the Bat."
