My deck belt kept coming loose. After watching many videos, yours was the only one that showed how to hook up the PTO cable with retainer and clip! I did have to remove deck again to get back of cable through holder and retainer/clip assembled. This was friend's mower and belt was off already first time I worked on it. Of course, they had no manual either. All the oher videos skipped over reattaching cable. The deck belt stays put now!! Thank you for your video. It's not rocket science, but videos need to show all the steps which you did!!! Mower works perfect now!!!

This video was very helpful in putting a freebie LT1000 I received back together correctly on this particular pulley on this particular mower.
The parts diagram has the spacer ON TOP between the pulley and the bracket but I see from your video that the spacer goes under the bracket and the pulley goes on top of the bracket.
That explains why the pulley was too high and kept eating brand new belts !

When you put that spring on top of that shaft where you said there was a pin missing there is also a washer missing. It goes on over the top of shaft then you put the spring on & the pin,it keeps the spring from sliding down, otherwise the spring could slide down the shaft & the pulley will cut the spring & the pulley also will end up burred on the edges & you risk it cutting your new belt
Good to know about washer on shaft! I'll have to put one on my friend's mower now!!
The way you do it in South Carolina is the same way we do it in South GA.
I need to replace my belts before this season gets started. Meant to do it last year.

Thank you for the video. I needed to figure out where the Drive spring exactly gets attached as mine broke. I don't know if you're aware, but you can buy a mower deck kit for the Craftsman LT1000 it runs about $70 and you get all the parts: The spring, the three pullies, other items...and I think it comes with belts too. and the reason I'm saying this is if the one pulley broke I'm sure the others aren't far behind. Thanks again. 🙂

U forgot to put a zip tie on the cable in the middle hole on the chassis, change engagement cable today, other than that u r on the money nice video.

Can you tell me how to adjust the belt? Mine is too loose.
There is no adjustment on tightening the deck belt because the engagement pulley is what tightens the belt up to spin the blades then retracts to loosen the belt so the blades stop turning once you move the engagement lever ! So you either have the belt on wrong or the belt is the wrong sized belt . My belt just broke after 13+ years of use & abuse & never stretched out enough not to turn the blades so to me it sounds like the belt is on wrong or the belt you have is the wrong belt if it's too long !
@@peteloomis8456 what size belt would go on the mower deck for the lt1000? I was told a 92in. fits it. Is that right?

In your video you were saying something about the deck being uneven and leaving streaks. I was wondering how to adjust that? I just bought a crafstman lt1000 with 17hp Ohv briggs & stratton. I replaced a spindle, the other had been done before i got it. I changed oil, fuel filter, spark plug, and air filter so far. only other thing is it doesn't stop very well
I was going to make a video on that but the nuts are frozen and I cant seem to break them loose. BUt the deck hangs from 2 rods that connect to the deck height adjustment. You just turn the nuts and it raises and lowers the deck on either side best to do it on concrete so you have a level surface to work with.
