    hah i saw my old landlord lady on the market, thanks for that :) Also that monument in Popina is meant to represent the end of a rifle barrel including the sight. Nice job and thanks for bringing back some of my best memories. and u gonna love Zica monastery :)

      Hey man Zica was amazing! Probably in my 'Top 5 Serbia' list (not that I have one!). It will forever be the place I lost my phone (I left it on a bench!). Thankfully I needed a new phone anyway because it was all smashed and barely functional. Probably a sign from the gods. I met a lovely sister when I accidentally walked through the sister's entrance but she was amazing, and from Uzice! So we connected on that!

    Unfortunatly Serbia's population is growing older rapidly, for decades now and mostly the country side villages are hit the most, especialy in remote areas of country (which Vrnjačka Banja area is not so much). Older people past away and in many cases there are no descendants(or they are left long time ago). So i am guesing u ran into one of that abandoned houses. As abandoned houses and entire villages are concerned, you should realy check out Stara mountin, in eastern Serbia, absolute gem

    • @davidostrowski679
      @davidostrowski679  Před rokem +3

      Great point man. I actually read an article recently about 'Serbia's lost generation' in terms of skilled and educated people leaving in the early 90s and so on. It's always interesting how historical events can shape the future of a country. Similarly what will Ukraine look like in 30 years etc. I guess there were similar issues around the 60s/70s across Europe due to so many of what would have been 20/30 having died in WW2. Thanks for the recommendation re Stara!

    🇬🇧 I wasn't really clear enough in the first few minutes - obviously I know the spa buildings and villas are NOT from Roman times!!! I blame my age LOL. You can learn more about the Popina Spomenik at www.spomenikdatabase.org/popina - Also additional point, the building with the 'flying saucer' design featured near the beginning of this video was actually designed by the same person who designed the Genex Tower in Belgrade! - www.spomenikdatabase.org/post/mihajlo-mitrovi%C4%87-s-singular-art-nouveau-inspired-modernism-in-vrnja%C4%8Dka-banja
    I'm not sure whether the next video will actually be from Kraljevo because at the time of writing this I am very sick!!
    🇷🇸 Nisam baš bio dovoljno jasan u prvih nekoliko minuta - očigledno znam da banjske zgrade i vile NISU iz rimskog doba!!! Krivim svoje godine LOL. Možete saznati više o Spomeniku Popina na vvv.spomenikdatabase.org/popina - Takođe dodatna poenta, zgradu sa dizajnom 'leteći tanjir' koji se nalazi na početku ovog videa zapravo je dizajnirala ista osoba koja je dizajnirala kula Genek u Beogradu! - vvv.spomenikdatabase.org/post/mihajlo-mitrovi%C4%87-s-singular-art-nouveau-inspired-modernism-in-vrnja%C4%8Dka-banja
    Nisam siguran da li će sledeći video zaista biti iz Kraljeva jer sam u trenutku pisanja ovoga jako bolestan!!

    I have been watching your videos and your thorough style always gives one a decent idea of a country. Certainly l feel l have an idea about Serbia, some of the things anyway. The only things that l was aware , in the Balkans, was the Croatian coast and Slovenia, both of them very picturesque, l do not enumerate the particulars in your videos so as not to make it long but it has been very ulluminating. I wanted to say that your last video in Zacatecas, by night, is a classic, l shared it with some of my family.

    My goodness! You gave a great love poem to Vrnjacka Banja. Maybe you didn't realize. I wonder if the demanding Mexico videos along with the blessings of Mexico combined with your desire to be real about Serbia to surrender a bit more to joy. One smile or monastery at a time. What's real? Real de Catorce is where you wanted your ashes to be buried? You mentioned being buried in a pretty Serbian place. You're excelling lately. I'm not CZcams savvy so I might have sent about four replies to your reply. The one thing I mentioned once that reminded me of Emily Dickinson was to say that the town you visited heard you were coming and got dressed up in sunshine. You might notice how everywhere dresses up for you whatever the weather. You, me, them. Serbi-city majico good or not. What is snarky? I know I don't like it. I like listening to you in part because you are so not snarky. Intelligence, mood, happenstance aren't snar,k. Keep being honest as you chase love! Have you discovered Poland yet? Maybe the industrial Katowice area is where you need to live and have a cat. I'd probably like it. Of course I believe in those churches.

    what's wrong with Yugo ???
    my (late) cousin from Slovenia had one, and i asked him why he doesn't by a VW Golf, which was quite popular in the late 80-s/early 90-s. He said: i can't do a thing with Golf - and Yugo can handle anything and everything. (my cousin lived on the farm in the mountains and he needed a 'working' car - not a fancy car)

    • @davidostrowski679
      @davidostrowski679  Před rokem +1

      I don't speak Serbian! And in Serbia you're likely to get punched in the face if you try to film someone. When ordering food in both Požega and Zlatibor I was specifically asked not to film, in Belgrade I was thrown out of a public area outside a town hall and another building, and in Ovčar Banja and Čačak I was specifically asked not to film people by 2 people in 2 different places. It's less hassle to just not bother. People generally don't want to be on camera unfortunately. In Mexico there were SO MANY occasions where I asked if I could include them... the answer was no 95% of the time... or they cover their face.

    • @matrix_x_
      @matrix_x_ Před rokem

      @@davidostrowski679 Ok, but I remember the first time you came to Serbia. You went to restaurants and cafes, interesting places in Belgrade. You tried different kinds of food... One boy went with you, a local. You had so much fun. At the same time, these are the most interesting of your videos. The others are also interesting to me, but this communication between host and guest is very interesting to me. I would like you to watch at least part of the video that Kyde and Eric shot in Croatia. They have exactly the same idea as you, and that is not to go to popular tourist spots, but to places that are interesting to them. I would like it if you would watch at least part of those videos. They are Americans living in Japan, but they travel the world and record like you. czcams.com/video/4WOM4raINBo/video.html

      @Binsr People in ExYu, under 60yo almost everyone spoke english... They learn that from 7yo in a school. Thats no problem. Problem is because some people dont want to be filmed, some does...

    • @davidostrowski679
      @davidostrowski679  Před rokem

      Binsr I would absolutely corroborate that. It's no problem for me as I quite like the language challenge. Like in Uzice I have spoken to a guy in Gigatron and one lady in Blue Moon who know some English, whereas in Belgrade absolutely English is widely-spoken. I know some younger Serbs in BG whose English is better than native English speakers!
