- In this tattoo illustration tutorial, i’ll show you how to draw a Phoenix bird step by step. I’ll be going through the entire process of how to draw out a tattoo design of this traditional Japanese creature. I’ll teach you the specific traditional design elements and how to apply them to this hand painted tattoo flash.

Nice job! The little thingamabob under a bird’s chin/jaw area is called a wattle. I really liked how this one turned out. As you know, I love blues and greens in tattoo designs and always welcome their inclusion, and that turquoise color is excellent. Guy Aitchison, Jesse Smith, and other tattooers experimented with the major ink manufacturer’s colors. Intenze, Fusion, Dynamic, Eternal, and others as well we're all used. One of the more significant results was about the color orange. Across the board, all of the orange colors failed the light-fastness test. They all faded over time, painted on cards, and always fell out in the skin. The reds and the yellows proved to be light-fast, however. So, they concluded that it's better to mix the red and yellow to make your orange than to purchase a pre-made one. I'm throwing this out for anyone who might not have heard about it since this design has a lot of oranges if they decide to tattoo it. Keep up the great work, bro!
Thanks a lot man! Appreciate your feedback! Ah yes wattle, did not know that 😂 yes i’ve heard of these tests they did, interesting stuff indeed
