  • You're listening to the official full album for Black Sabbath - 'Live Evil' (1982) - remastered in 2008. Pre-order Black Sabbath - Live Evil (40th Anniversary Super Deluxe) here: blacksabbath.lnk.to/liveevil
Black Sabbath made a two-pronged comeback in 1980 and 1981 when Ronnie James Dio joined their ranks as their new lead singer for the platinum albums, Heaven And Hell and Mob Rules. On the 1982 Mob Rules U.S. tour, they decided to record shows to create the first official Black Sabbath live album. With material drawn evenly between songs written with Ronnie as well as older classics such as “War Pigs” and “Iron Man,” when Live Evil was released at the end of 1982, it represented an accurate and powerful memento of Black Sabbath Mk2 on their second world tour. Although it was hailed by influential heavy metal magazine Kerrang! as “one of the greatest live albums of all time” in 1983, the band was never completely satisfied with the original mix. Now we are able to present a fresh, new 40th anniversary mix of the entire album, remixed from the original analog multi tracks by longtime associate of the band, Wyn Davis. The packaging will also include a 40-page hard back book featuring a newly commissioned 12,000-word essay, the new remix as a double LP, as well as the original double album, newly remastered in 2022 by Andy Pearce. The CD edition will also be four discs, with a 60-page hardback book.

I don't think people realize how hard it was for a guy with a voice like Dio to sing Ozzy's songs. On one hand you don't just want him to imitate Ozzy, but on the other hand you want him to capture the spirit of the 70s songs rather than try to make them sound like Heaven & Hell era Sabbath. I think he hit a really good balance between those two extremes here.

    • @randallamps
      @randallamps Před rokem +5

Yes, it was very hard for Dio to cut thru the mix like Ozzy on Sabbath songs.

I disagree, for the most part. I think Children of The Grave works fantastically (but rarely played!), but War Pigs and Black Sabbath don't. However, I've always found it more pronounced on Live Evil than other recordings - not sure why that is. War Pigs was of course played with Elf, so it's not like he didn't choose to sing it.
Plus "My name is.. LUCIFER! Pleeeaaase take my hand!!" always made me smile.
Perhaps controversially, I'd say Tony Martin did a better job on Ozzy songs than Dio did (before Dehumaniser, anyway).

N.I.B is great with Dio. Love both ozzy's and Dios much the same. Black Sabbath not so much with Dio. War Pigs is ok - much much better with his ELF version of War Pigs - that is a really great cover.

I have nothing against how he sung them, he did a fine job. He's only guilty of not sounding like Ozzy when he did it. On the other hand, if I sing Ozzy, I'm fairly Ozzylike.... and if I sing Dio, God only knows lol... might come out like Udo Dirkschneider or Bon Scott trying to do Dio lol... and not well LOL

Love music and own a lot,
But you can tell Dio vocals original version(dont know after that i need only one copy of an album anyway).
That his vocals volume were turned down as he was trying to to turn them up when the guys weren't in the studio,
Many Dio albums that are great of course the vocals are way too loud it make sound the music so far in the background.

Guess which one I first heard when it was released and I was just a 9 year old kid hearing it for the first time in my childhood and most critics hated the album due to Ozzy’s drinking and drug binges and not including his schizophrenia issue which didn’t have a cure yet? I love an under dog album kinda like:1977’s Draw The Line by Aerosmith when they were at their absolute worst condition with heroin addiction and benzodiazepine abuse; alcoholism was rampant as well but it’s still a great album kids even if they needed some help from The Dolls- David Johansson; almost took that Skynyrd plane according to Steven Tyler in Walk This Way 📚, but he was too busy shooting a.45 through the drywall at Joe Perry whom was apparently holding out on him with his dope. In my opinion this album is “ The Perfect Storm “ of a live metal album . The awesome riffs of Mr Iommi meeting the voice of Mr Dio creating the perfect event . Dio sings the old Sabbath songs like he had wrote them himself , the band never sounded this good before or after this period ( just my opinion). For me this was Dio and Sabbaths moment in time never to be bettered, love it 🤘👍

Estoy al 100% de acuerdo contigo .DIO THE MASTER ,ERA MEJOR QUE OZZY CON DIFERENCIA,
EL MISMO TONY IOMMY DIJO EN UNA ENTREVISTA
      DIO ES UN MATER CLASS
OZZY ES UN DECEREBRADO SIN TALENTO
DIO VOLVIO A DARLE ESO QUE HABIAN PERDIDO
      FRESCURA,Y VOZ NUEVA
A LA ALTURA DE LA BANDA
QUE VOLVIO DONDE ESTABAN A SU ERA DORADA ,BLACKSABBATH SINO ES POR RONNIE ,NO HUBIESEN SEGUIDO JUNTOS EN ESOS MOMENTOS ,FINALES DE 1979 DONDE EL DECLIVE DE OZZY ESTA EN LO MAS ALTO ,Y ARRASTRÓ A LA BANDA A SUS MISERIAS ,Y DE AHI QUE LA BANDA ESTABA DESORIENTADA
      DESUBICADA .,
TONY IOMMY FUE EL PRIMERO EN RECUPERARSE ,Y PENSO EN ESA BANDA LLAMADA RAINBOW Y SOBRE TODO A SU VOZ RONNIE JAMES DIO
LO LLAMO Y CON UN PEDAZO DE DISCO LLAMADO
HEAVEN&HELL, VOLVIO A DAR A SABBATH SU SITIO COMO PADRES DEL HEAVYMETAL Y RONNIE ,PADRINO DEL YA NOMBRADO HEAVYMETAL
SIEMPRE SEGUIRA VIVO EN EL CORAZON DE SUS FANS
YO INCLUIDO ,ES MI DIOS Y SU MUSICA MI RELIGION
