Still love mine. Took it out for 100k’s the other day in the cold and rain. I will probably fit the givi screen and deflectors as well as the Honda heated grips. As I plan to do some longer trips after Christmas (depending on COVID) but I fancy a trip over to Germany or perhaps even a bit further.

I hear a lot, that there is a long delivery time. I must have been lucky. I just walked in and bought the one on the show room floor. They had 4 at the time. So it only took a day or two and I collected it.

We haven't had a very competitive Japanese scooter line up over 150cc's in the U.S. for years now but maybe with the higher cost of gasoline nowadays that will help with importing them into the country again, in the meantime I'm happy with my 1996 Honda Helix.

    Two things ---
It is possible for a strong wind to blow it forwards off the side stand, so a parking brake is needed.
I made a metal clip for the rear brake lever, there´s also a velcro belt which does the job.
The Bluetooth pod under the left handlebar can foul your knee, locking the steering, and your leg.
Otherwise it is a fine machine, after a lifetime of interesting motorcycles.

    • @dean-does-stuff-81
      @dean-does-stuff-81  Před 2 lety

I admit that that control unit under the bar is a waste of time. I will never use it myself. And I always park the bike on the centre stand, as that way you can start it and leave it to run and warm up a little while you put your kit on etc. So I have not had an issue with the side stand. (As you say, a Velcro strap is all it takes)

The Honda top box looks much more secure from break ins. ( in my opinion) it is massive though. (They do a smaller option I believe) but having it mounted on the Honda mount and it being keyless entry are both very good points to consider. The build quality is also high.

Hi there, I ride a BMW r1200r roadster and this Honda forza 350……I actually prefer the Honda!lol.
I’ve ridden big bikes for 40 years and this is my first scooter- don’t know why I didn’t buy one sooner!
I’ve looked at the ADV, however the electric screen is SO useful on the Forza that the advantages of the ADV wouldn’t compensate for the terrific screen.
The scooter is economical and fun to ride with just enough power to keep me happy.
Hope this helps you make your decision - I definitely have not regretted my purchase!

Tbh I am not sure it’s worth it. If you are talking about the occasional day trip, as long as the pre load is turned to the highest setting, and you ride with in the bikes capabilities, there really is no need. You have to remember that this bike isn’t really designed for 2 up touring. It is a daily commuter. If you plan to use it for big touring then I would look at the t max or the 750 Honda. My money would be on the t max. I haven’t seen any rear suspension upgrades that look to be a genuine upgrade, so you would need to look to finding a suspension specialist. Simply not worth the money to me…

Thanks for the video Dean. A maxi scooter is an itch that I feel I must scratch sometime. How did you find going from a motorcycle (you mentioned a GS) to a scooter? They are much more popular on mainland EU and for good reason I am sure.

Hi Ray, I have had lots of bikes over the past 20 years. Many of them big bmws, including LT, k1300s, GS and GSA. Although I do love the big bikes (especially the twins) I just get so annoyed by the massive running costs. I spent 6 years on scooters commuting to London in my early 20’s, and I decided that a bigger scooter could be a solution. I have to say, I am loving it. I can highly recommend maxi scooters. 👍

    • @ray8328

Thanks Dean. I love my motorcycles but I can also appreciate the practicality of the maxi scooter for commuting and day to day errands. Those that have them appear to find them fun to ride too. I’m with you on costs. I’ve had a few litre bikes but now I stick to the midsize bikes as they are more economical to run (fuel & tires) and maintenance costs are lower.

You can buy Honda heated grips that are inter grated into the dash. But if you want heated seat then you will need to go after market. Actually, pretty easy to do that your self. You just need a staple gun to re fit the seat cover. The battery is right below the front of the seat, so would be super easy to wire it up and put a small switch down by the filler cap. The cubby locks when the bike locks. In the O or steering lock positions.
The top box also locks in the same fashion. The top box can only be removed with the actual metal key that comes with the bike. It can then be opened with the small button underneath when it is on the bike. It just clicks closed. It is actually a very good design as far as security goes. In my opinion. I am concerned that it will be a bit of a stretch getting my feet on the ground, especially with the wide seat. Secondly, some reviews have said the rear suspension is hard and non-adjustable. Is this so? I like a softer suspension. And thirdly is the info display hard to see in bright sunlight? It looks like it might be.

      1. You will need to test ride it for height. As it has such a wide seat that you may struggle to put your feet down. 2 the suspension isn't the best. You don't want it too soft. It is adjustable for compression on the rear. 3 The screen is excellent and always visible.

I have answered this before. Basically any bike can be toured on. The thing that lets it down will be fuel consumption. At 60mph, you can get pretty ok mpg, but in reality, if you are riding at 70/75, you would be better to get a larger bike. Like the 750nc Honda for example.

Hi Carol, I have a 32 inch inside leg. I wouldn't say I struggle with the height of the seat, but the issue with this type of bike is how wide the seat is. Because it is wide, it makes it harder to get your feet down. I would say at 29 inch, you may struggle to even get your tip toes down. It would be a case of having to bum shuffle to one side each time you stop. This said, because it is a twist and go, there are no foot controls to worry about, so in that case, you may manage. It would also be possible to have the seat customized, (just remove some of the foam and make a new cover.) Probably the answer would be a test ride. Good luck with getting some thing 👍
