Hi - Yes i remember these Volvo buses very well from when i was a kid in the 1980's/1990's...A nice modern looking bus that was built around 1980-85....Powered by a compact Volvo turbocharged straight 6 diesel engine of 6.7 litres (231 BHP) and a ZF 3 speed semmi auto gearbox....I think the noise you're talking about was due to clearence issues (The exhaust manifold pipes used to rattle/bang against each other while the bus was stopped and held in gear (Drive)....Gr8 turbo sound LOL !!!
This is my first time to hear the voice of the Volvo-Alisa B55, which with TD70E engine combine with Voith 3-speed transmission.
It sounds like a Leyland Victory Mark 2
408 is actually alot quieter than 436, with 436 sounding much better - well, at least as of last sunday!
@leopardskin2008
you mean that nice sound like the 436 makes well my dad says its the drive shaft i dont think that at all i just think it always sounded like that when i was a kid i used just sit and hear the bus and allways liked going out just to hear them and the good old leyland lynxs.
i had a nose around the depot a few days ago they have three Volvo Ailsas but they were panited different they are still there in the back of the depot inside not outdoors
this one sounds better than 436, have they got different gear boxes do you think, I can hear the Voith whine a lot better on this one.
it was one of the best aslias i rode on
